We are a rapidly growing group of Muslim women coming together sharing the love of Allah
(God, Glorious and Exalted is He).
Amanah Sisters is supervised by a Shura Council comprised of 10 Sisters.
The general membership is broken into two categories: ALUMNI and AMANAH.
The ALUMNI members are those Muslim women (Muslimahs) who are practicing their faith
and continuously learning the teachings of Islam. They are seeking an opportunity to share
their knowledge and bond with their fellow sisters. They are the backbone of Amanah Sisters.
By pooling our resources and talents, we are able to focus on providing support, friendship
and guidance to our New Muslim Sisters, our AMANAH members.
The AMANAH members are our new sisters who have recently accepted Islam.
Their name reflects our responsibility to them. We must look after and guide them, gently
with friendship, patience and kindness. These sisters have adopted by the grace and blessing
of Allah, (Glorious and Exalted is He), the most beautiful way of life, but they will face challenges
in the transition phase. Alumni members intend to work hard to ease
this process for the Amanah Sisters.
What does the word "amanah" mean?
Amanah ( أمانة) is an Arabic word that means "trust" as well as "free will".
"Free will" meaning that which has been given only to humans and jinn by Allah
(Glorious and Exalted is He). In contrast, other creations do not have this quality.
Below is a direct quote from the Holy Qur'an and an approximate English interpretation.
Indeed, we offered the "Amanah" (Trust / Free Will) to the heavens and the earth and the mountains,
and they declined to bear it and feared it; but man [undertook to] bear it....
Surah Ahzab (Chapter 33, Verse 72 of the Holy Qur'an)
Both of these meanings are relevant to our group
The New Sisters in Islam have used their "free will" to become Muslims.
These New muslims are with us in "trust".
We, by the will of Allah (Glorious and Exalted is He), will be entrusted with their safekeeping. |
