Children are curious by nature and a campervan trip will be a whole new world of exciting stuff for them to think about and ask about! start involving them even before the holiday: explain to them and ‘practice’ how life in a motorhome works, from the kitchen to the bedroom, including the dynamics of securing everything within the vehicle, using the toilet, limiting water use while washing hands and dishes and brushing teeth, etc.
Get them to help you prepare their spaces pre-departure, so that they know where everything is and how to keep their things tidy and secured in place.

Take the Family Pet Along
Our kids aren’t lazy by any means, but we find that their activity levels increase ten-fold on a motorhome holiday. Surrounded by the great outdoors from the moment they step outside the motorhome, they are on the go from dawn to dusk. They’re happy to leave their digital devices behind and just enjoy their surroundings. A motorhome holiday can be the perfect chance to let kids be kids. To children, a motorhome is one big playhouse that, like a magic carpet, arrives each day at somewhere new and special.
See their faces light up at the wonderful trips and activities that you surprise them with along the way, and share moments together that you’d struggle to get from any other holiday.

Campervan life isn't for everyone. If you prefer fully inclusive holidays with kids clubs, a spa and lots of beach time, then you probably aren't going to thrive in a campervan. But if hiking boots, a wet suit and waterproofs form part of your wardrobe, this could be your ideal family holiday. I've always lusted after a vintage vw campervan. It inspires a huge sense of nostalgia amongst its fans. An emblem of simpler times and sunny days. We got our van (still unnamed) 2. 5 years ago and have spent many happy days and nights with her since.
There are so many reasons why traveling in a class b motorhome, rv or campervan is ideal for families. In addition to being flexible to a small child’s needs, rving is great for family bonding. Motorhome trips offer the perfect opportunity to disconnect from technology. In addition to quality time, campervan travel teaches kids about the value of teamwork and the importance of connecting with nature. If you’ve never taken a campervan trip before (or if you’re a seasoned pro but are planning to bring along small children for the first time), being well prepared can go a long way.
I have thought very often about campervanning around new zealand so it is not without a little piece of jealousy that i’m sharing this guest post (and another one soon). If you want to know how to travel new zealand with kids then read on! my dear (real life!) friend kristy of loulou zoo has just returned from a trip to the south island of new zealand with her husband and two young daughters, and she has so many great tips and ideas to share on campervanning in new zealand for kids. The best part (for me) is that before she went, i wouldn’t have categorised kristy as a “traveller” now she’s full of plans for future trips and i just love it.
