Fortunately, the Dallas Half Marathon seems pretty friendly for beginner racers the entire back half of the race is mostly downhill. I am regularly passing folks at this point in the race - likely a result of my selection into the wrong corral - which is a confidence booster, but makes it hard for me to find a buddy to try and keep up.
I also entered the Chicago 2020 lottery and was not accepted, but am applying to run for charity. If I'm accepted, I am so confident that I can run sub-4:30, and may even stretch to sub-4. Thanks Dallas for putting on a great race and reinvigorating my passion for this sport! Made with a new race report generator created by u/herumph.
I've ran 20-some half marathons over the years, because I could put minimal training in, get to the end, and move on. But I had never put in a real training routine to finally run a full 26.2. Since I had a history of running and a high aerobic base from a summer full of cycling, I started Hal Higdon's Novice 2 schedule.
I hope the course support is strong throughout the whole race. As much as I love the Cowtown Marathon, it gets awfully lonely when the marathoners and half marathoners split at mile 12 and the course support dies outside of aid stations and the block party at Mile 20.
Training I am primarily a cyclist, but have ran a couple of half and full marathons previously off of very little training. Previous races ran were the Dallas marathon, 3M half marathon, and Austin Marathon. The 2023 Austin marathon is the race that I had the most training for, meaning only 8 weeks of really poor programming and low mileage with the last two weeks being a taper that I probably.

More than 30,000 runners, walkers and wheelchair competitors take part each year in the BMW Dallas Marathon Festival - which features 12 running and walking events over a 3-day weekend. In 2023, a new Sunday course was debuted which featured less turns and less hills making for a faster overall course.

On a whim, I decided to run my first half in April (2:24:59) at my hometown half. After that, I kind of got addicted to running. I continued to run throughout the summer, before deciding to attempt a marathon. I chose the Dallas Marathon for sentimental reasons: Dallas is where I went to undergrad, started my career, and met my husband.
