Hi All-- Can you all shake out some of those facts you have stored up and give me a comparison, as far as quality, power, endurance, fuel efficiency, etc. between a 22r/22re and the 4 cyl Nissan with the eight plugs? Also the availability/cost of rebuilds? Also the 5 spd v. Toy 4 spd trannys? and the proneness of the earlier Nissan (1984) chassis v. Toy to rust? Thanks!

Anyways, I've been looking at 3 different trucks, the older Toyotas with the 22RE (I've heard they're indestructible), an older Nissan Hardbody (I've also heard good things about reliability), or an older Ford Ranger. I don't plan on to offroad it or beat on it.

I would say that the 90-97 D21 is superior to the 1989-1995 toyota pickup because not only is the nissan much cheaper, but it is arguably just as reliable. The Nissan 4banger (ka24) has quite a bit more power than the toyota 22re, and it is just as reliable.

I remember them being decent trucks, those old Nissan Hardbody pickups. Probably the newest Nissan pickup I'd personally buy, I almost never see a Frontier on the road unless it's less than 10yrs old. I'd say they're on-par with the Toyota pickups from back then, maybe a slight edge on pricing, but the Toyota will have more aftermarket parts available due to popularity. Likely a truck that if.
