Gohan's gi is blue with a red obi and red wristbands, while Goku's is an orange gi with blue wristbands and boots. Goku's gi often includes kanji symbols, reflecting his training stages. Interestingly, the manga color scheme for the gi honors both Goku and Piccolo- Gohan's two martial arts masters.
The body of the gi is purple whereas the sash, ankle warmers, and wristguards are all orange. Re: Gohan's Gi. Blue or Purple? by dbgtFO Thu Dec 22, 2016 9:31 pm Ah, good points there.
My major source of DB in colors are the video games and particularly DBZ Budokai 2 and 3, where Gohan's primary gi is the same color through Saiyan, Freeza, Cell and Buu arcs. Gohan's Green Demon Gi Although Dragon Ball (the manga) is primarily in black and white, Akira Toriyama would often feature color chapters throughout the series' serialization. This would allow readers the chance to note outfit colors before seeing the anime's interpretation.
It also made it easy to make assumptions. Edit 2: Nothing quite in regards to it in the anime, but apparently Dokkan has a Super Saiyan 3 Gohan card or whatever in Piccolo's full gi, cape included. Which isn't quite what I was looking for, but nice fanservice.
Why is Gohan's gi purple? Interestingly, the manga color scheme for the gi honors both Goku and Piccolo- Gohan's two martial arts masters. The body of the gi is purple whereas the sash, ankle warmers, and wristguards are all orange. Demon Clothes are several uniforms worn by King Piccolo, Piccolo, and Gohan after his training under Piccolo.
The Demon Clothes were originally worn by King Piccolo in the form of an indigo Gi, with a light purple obi with a large kanji, 魔 Ma, lit. "Demon", on the front and like all Demon Clothes that would follow, Namekian style shoes. King Piccolo wore this outfit from his first battle.
Apart from being my favorite color, it was also the first version of the belt that I saw on Cell saga Gohan. As someone with a love for color matching, I personally don't like how the red stands out from the blue wristbands while complementing the purple gi. That's just me.
There's also the factor of Piccolo's namekian color scheme to consider. Even in the manga, Gohan is an incredibly important character, rivaling Goku for page time in just about every arc they appear in together. Of all the members of the cast, Gohan's the one who changes and matures the most.
He never has the same appearance or gi for long, and the constant nature of his character arc can often make it seem like Goku's clothes are changing alongside him. King Piccolo, Piccolo, and Gohan wear a similar purple Gi with Namekian shoes. During the Fusion Saga of Dragon Ball Z, when Gohan goes back to Earth after getting his power awakened, he asks Kibito to make him some clothes just like his father wears, so Kibito gives him an orange Gi, refering to the color as similar to that of the dropping of.
