Learn what unique downloads mean on Nexus Mods, a website for modding games. Unique downloads are the number of times a file is downloaded by a unique user, not the number of downloads. Unique Downloads is the ammount of downloads per IP/account (Don't know which one it is actually).
So if I download one of your mods twice, it'll count 2 for Downloads and 1 for Unique Downloads. Unique downloads would only add one (at the start of the first download) to the counter and no matter how many times the same member downloads a file in a single entry it will not increase the unique download counter. Why is this useful? When I look at a modpage I see 2 types of downloads, "Downloads" and "Unique downloads".
this question has been in my head for a while, what is the difference between the two anyway? The unique download count isn't 1-for-1 mapping to DP earned with the new algorithm so having this data next to the amount your mod earned doesn't make sense anymore. I believe a unique download is a single download from 1 IP address (or user, I am not 100% sure how it tracks it). This means if I was to download a mod you made 5 times it would say: 5 Downloads, 1 Unique Download.

d) Upload. What Is a Unique Download? A "Unique" download refers to a set of metrics specifically developed by Libsyn. The metrics differentiate between raw requests for downloads and download requests from single users.
The Unique downloads algorithm accounts for two important pieces of information: IP Address User Agent (Apple Podcasts, Chrome, etc.). I uploaded my first mod to the nexus yesterday, and it now says that it has 52 unique downloads and 72 total downloads. I have trouble believing that 20 of the 72 total downloads are repeat downloads from the same IP address.
I'm left with 3 possiblities: I'm misinterpreting what these mean The nexus is having trouble resolving IP addresses 20 people actually downloaded twice This isn't super. A user can then add this meta file from the site to our mod manager Vortex and Vortex will fetch all the download links for the mods, download them (i.e. the mod authors still get the unique downloads for that new user), and install the mods the same way the original user (the curator of that mod list) has them installed (including conflict resolution) on their end.
