[00:01:06] journey with me to embody your power then this podcast is for you thank you for joining me together let's raise our Consciousness to help evolve [Music] Humanity do you ever catch your mind stuck in a re run replaying scenes from the past like an old movie does it sometimes feel like your body is suddenly back reliving those moments would you like to rewrite parts of your past there's something more powerful than rewriting your past you can actually help your brain and body experience it in a new way in this episode I'll reveal why you need corrective experiences corrective experiences are a way to give your brain and body a new experience so that they can feel resolution with the past and move forward feeling empowered imagine a world where you stop hitting the replay button where you feel

[00:02:10] free to live in the present moment sounds good right I'll stick around because we're going to dive deep into the game changer called corrective experiences I'm going to share why corrective experiences are exactly what your brain and body crave this is not about recounting your story it's it's about creating a story where you embody your power but it's not just a mental exercise to truly change you've got to get your body in on the action your body is the ultimate biof feedback instrument telling you if you're integrating those new experiences or just going through the motions do you ever replay scenarios endlessly in your mind hoping for a different more empowering outcome well your brain is on to something corrective EXP experiences give our brain and body precisely what they crave not just any outcome but an empowering one that breaks the cycle of feeling defeated and stuck now here's a mind-blowing fact our brain can't distinguish between real and

[00:03:15] imagined experiences we just need to know how to bring our awareness to the imagined experience and our body at the same time but wait there's an art to it it's about sinking our awareness with the imagined experience expence making our brain and body believe it's really happening but first things first why do you need this in your life corrective experiences are what your subconscious has been waiting for we're updating the software of our mind breaking through those patterns that have held us captive and unlocking doors to the Future filled with opportunities that were always Within Reach picture this a software update for your subconscious mind when you gift your brain and body with a new experience it's like hitting Refresh on your entire being we're breaking free from the shackles of the past to create new opportunities and redefine our menu in life as explored in episode 15 trauma is

[00:04:19] in the nervous system and traumatic symptoms come from energy and activation that gets stuck in our nervous system we can use corrective experiences is to release this energy as a result we heal from trauma and reclaim our power ever felt stuck in therapy spinning wheels but going nowhere well you're not alone many people reach out to me because they're frustrated with the talk therapy treadmill here's the deal if we're not working with someone's skilled and corrective experiences we're missing many many opportunities for transformation actually we can make oursel worse by telling the story The Way happened because we're retelling a disempowered story and reactivating our body's stress response which can be ret traumatizing today we're going Beyond old school methods and stepping into a world where corrective experiences unlock your potential why because talking about the past won't cut it we're here to embody our

[00:05:24] power without corrective experiences we're just rehashing the same disempowered script it's time to hit pause rewrite the scenes and align our story with our power but enough with the theory let's get practical I'm not here to rehash the past I'm here to guide you on a quest for resolution and empowerment corrective experiences are the key to unlocking a new relationship with your past and thus a new future full of potential imagine having a skilled guide someone who's not just empathetic but armed with the precise mindset to lead you through the Maze of your past now if you're wondering who's the right Sherpa for this transformative Journey it's someone who's not just skilled in corrective experiences but deeply attuned to your needs that's where I come in drawing on over 16 years of honing the skill to help you transform your past it's a finely tuned

[00:06:27] craft that I've mastered over the years imagine having a guide who knows exactly what's needed for you to reclaim your power experience resolution with the past and Unleash Your Potential stick around till the end because I've got a step-by-step guide for you to adopt a transformative corrective experience mindset but how do you actually have a corrective experience mindset first many people are accustomed to telling or listening to a story from start to finish we have to let go of the linear story and The Need to Know How It Ends especially when it's a stressful disempowering or traumatic Story start thinking in terms of opportunities to have corrective experiences learn to pause and interrupt the story to make space for new experiences here's the process we identify the ideal response first first we pinpoint what our

[00:07:31] preferred response or outcome would have been in a past situation we gain Clarity on necessary support we find the real or imaginary elements that would have been crucial for executing that preferred response sometimes it's the subtle nuances that make all the difference we import supportive elements with our Newfound Insight we import the support we needed back into the past event it's like rewriting the script of our past infusing it with all the things that would have been supportive we visualize the corrective experiences we vividly visualize the old scenario but this time we do it with the imported support and resources it's about creating a mental landscape where empowerment replaces defeat we create safe often our past responses were compromised because we didn't feel safe

[00:08:34] enough to respond in an empowering way we explore what was needed for you to feel safe enough to execute the desired response or outcome body awareness is key imagination alone isn't sufficient we ensure our awareness is intricately linked to our body throughout the process which means we often have to to slow down the visualization so we can stay present with our body it's the mindbody connection that turns it from a mere mental exercise into a tangible transformative experience biof feedback from the body our body is the biof feedback instrument that tells us if we're genuinely experiencing and integrating the new outcome it's the litmus test for Real impactful Change this isn't just a mental exercise it's a holistic Journey a synergistic dance between mind and body so as we navigate through these steps remember

[00:09:39] the key is not just to imagine the new experience but to feel it embody it and slow it down to give it time to integrate you want your body to expand into the new outcome let's look at an example let's say someone you know said something that made you mad and you were afraid to respond in a way that would have felt empowering instead you freeze you people please maybe you make yourself small you overreact or you take your anger out on someone or something else the corrective experience here is feeling and experiencing the empowered response now let's dive into more examples many people can relate to from Jane slipping on black ice to Mark battling bullies Emma's shopping addiction Hannah's binge eating Debbie's dating dilemma and Craig's spiritual crisis corrective experiences are the key to each person healing and transforming their

[00:10:42] lives first let's delve into Jane's story where she slipped and fell breaking her hip as she left for work one winter day in her office the fleeting thought to put on her boots crossed her mind but the rush to finish task and catch her son's game took precedence she was walking cautiously on the wet road until she received a phone call which she fumbled around in her purse to get the consequence a painful crash on black ice resulting in a broken hip Jane was all alone and waited in pain while the ambulance was on its way despite recovery Jane reached out to me because she was continuing to experience pain in her hip years later can you think of some moments in the the story where Jane would benefit from a corrective experience let's name some she was rushing and distracted so she would benefit from feeling what it would have been like to slow down and be more

[00:11:45] mindful she had the thought to put her boots on but didn't what would it have been like for her to put her boots on we can have her experience this and see what happens in her body she felt fell on a hard surface and broke her hip we can interview the body and see what kind of corrective experience would have been helpful for example maybe her body needed to feel what it would have been like to fall on something soft physical pain from a traumatic event can be due to stuck activation in the nervous system that didn't get to release when we help someone release the stuck activation by slowing it down and reexperiencing it in a corrective way the body can release the energy and heal lastly she was all alone when she fell who would she have wanted there with her we can help her feel supported and not alone next let's explore a physiological example through Mark's poignant story of

[00:12:49] being bullied at school raised in an authoritative home Mark's father was very controlling often making him feel weak if he dared to deviate from his father's expectations when Mark was 12 a kid in his class that was bigger than him would call him names push him around trip him and spread rumors about him trapped in a cycle of Rage Mark found himself unable to release this pent up emotion especially considering the overwhelming physical stature of both his father and the bully the repercussions were profound the internalization of his anger LED mark down path of self-hatred and deep depression this internal turmoil when left unaddressed can manifest in destructive ways from pervasive self-loathing to even contemplating suicide recognizing the severity of his situation Mark came to see me to navigate the shadows of depression that gripped

[00:13:50] him can you think of some corrective experiences that would benefit mark here are some ideas Mark's dad was controlling and made him feel weak we're not wired to feel defeated so we would look for ways to help Mark experience his power in relationship to his dad Mark was bullied by a kid in his class we can interview his body and see what he would have wanted to do to this kid if he could have done anything we can help Mark release Anger from his body in whatever way feels right to him it's important to note that when we feel impulses to hurt or kill someone it doesn't mean that we're violent people we use the visualization to help the nervous system move these impulses through to completion this is a safe way to release anger where we're not hurting anyone both Mark's dad and Bully were bigger than him we can help him feel his

[00:14:53] power in a corrective experience by making them both smaller than him or making himself self bigger than both of them Mark had no outlet for his rage and so he turned it inward on himself in order to help Mark stop hating himself and feeling depressed we need to help him release the anger from the past how would he feel in his body if he could experience fighting back now let's look at an example of an emotional corrective experience through Emma's Journey Emma reached out to me for help with a shopping addiction she shared the deep-seated pain of never having received love from her parents who treated her differently than her other siblings she was expected to be the one to take care of her parents and siblings growing up meaning she was expected to do anything her parents asked of her but no one showed her love respect or appreciation Emma was conditioned to give to everyone else but not receive this lopsided Dynamic where

[00:15:57] giving became second nature but receiving remained elusive left Emma with an emotional void she turned to shopping as a coping mechanism unraveling the layers of her past Emma embarked on a journey of healing seeking to break free from the patterns that led her to this point what are some emotional needs that Emma didn't get met growing up she wasn't loved she wasn't respected or cared for like her siblings were she wasn't appreciated for anything that she did for others she got the message that she is to give to others but not receive in this situation many of her emotional needs were not met because her parents didn't show up for her in a loving way what kind of corrective experiences do you think would help Emma move forward in her life here are some ideas she definitely needs to experience what

[00:17:01] it would feel like to be loved respected and cared for she needs to get that on her menu if she doesn't she will most likely find herself in relationships with people who treat her badly we would also want to help her experience receiving that love and care most people in this situation have a very hard time receiving from others it's very uncomfortable we may need to help her experience receiving good things in little increments so she can integrate them we would also want to help her know how to stand up and speak up for herself with people who are not respecting her how do we do this we can go back to some examples in her past where she didn't speak up for herself or assert her boundaries and help her import anything real or imaginary that she would have needed to feel safe enough to stand up and speak up for herself when we assert our boundaries we are caring for

[00:18:04] ourselves she's letting the parts of her that carry the pain of not being loved know that they are worthy of being treated with love and respect now let's delve into an example of a psychological corrective experience illustrated by Hannah's battle with a binge eating disorder her journey to my office was fueled by a lifelong struggle with the overwhelming compulsion to Ben when the shadows of this disorder loomed she would embark on a trip to the grocery store Gathering an array of her favorite foods only to consume them in one sitting in the intricate web of our psyche binge eating emerged as a protective part attempting to Shield Hannah from the pain of feeling not good enough a message deeply ingrained in her family upbringing what kind of corrective experiences do you think would benefit Hannah let's look at some ideas we would

[00:19:07] want to help her have experiences where she knows the truth about herself which is that she is good enough we can help Hannah experience this by separating from the part of her that believes she's not good enough and help her access her core self which is always aligned with the truth about herself her core self knows she's good enough then we can connect the two we can bring her core self to this part and help it know and experience the truth by doing this we heal the part that was carrying the false belief that was having a major impact on her life and health when we heal the pain behind the protective part of our psyche in this case the binge eating part then that part can relax it no longer needs to work to protect her from the pain now let's look look at a relational corrective experience through the lens of Debbie's transformational Journey seeking guidance Debbie approached me with a persistent pattern in her love life she consistently found herself

[00:20:10] entangled with emotionally unavailable or distant men a cycle that perpetuated pain and frustration eager for change she recognized the need for a shift in her relational Dynamics growing up in her family her parents were self-absorbed and didn't give Debbie much attention they expected her to be an adult when she was still a child when she came home from school she was alone for a few hours until her parents returned from work any need that she had felt like a bother to her parents and so she figured out that she could only depend on herself this early imprint left Debbie fiercely independent and hesitant to trust others can you think of corrective experiences that would help Debbie attract the relation reltionship she desires let's look at some ideas we would want to help her experience what it feels like to be in a relationship with someone who is emotionally available someone who is present attuned

[00:21:15] and caring if she doesn't know what this feels like in her body it will be very difficult to recognize it and order it in life we would want to help Debbie have corrective experiences around getting her emotional needs met we can go back through some past events with her parents and import new support to have a new experience Debbie would benefit from experiencing what it feels like to trust someone in a way that she can relax and receive this could be difficult and uncomfortable for someone who is very independent however it's important to know and experience in order to create a healthy relationship where she gets her needs met lastly let's explore a spiritual corrective experience with Craig Craig reached out to me because he has four children and is feeling very anxious depressed and a drift in life it turns out he had a very strong connection with God but when his spouse died of cancer he stopped going to church and believing in God he lost his

[00:22:19] wife as well as his spiritual community and a powerful connection he had with God that gave his life meaning brought internal peace helped him connect with his heart and brought a sense of feeling supported and not alone in life what type of corrective experiences would be helpful for Craig with his loss of connection to god let's look at some ideas first we would want to help him heal from the loss of his wife unprocessed grief can be contributing to his loss and faith in God we would want to understand why he stop believing in God let's say he blamed God for taking his wife from him then we would want to help him successfully release his anger so it's not turned Inward and causing him to feel depressed we may explore helping him forgive God and re-evaluate his perspective on God is God a benevolent force or a punishing one we can see how it feels in his body

[00:23:22] to be welcomed back into his church Community ultimately we would want to help him experience what it feels like to be connected to and supported by God in his life again I hope these examples give you a better understanding of the power of corrective experiences and why they're essential to moving forward in our lives so are you ready to break free from the chains of the past can you imagine the power of giving your brain and body new experiences of past events that have kept you stuck as I wrap W up this powerful episode I'd like to leave you with tips to adopt a corrective experience mindset take an inventory to see where you are reliving the past repeating unhelpful patterns or stuck from moving forward due to past events identify what the preferred response or outcome would have been to the past events ask yourself what was needed for me to feel resolution and

[00:24:25] power is there anything you needed really imaginary to have the preferred response import the support you needed into the past then visualize the old scenario with the new imported resources to have a corrective experience check to see if there's anything you needed to feel safe enough to respond in an empowered way import anything that you would have needed into the past memory so you can execute the preferred response and outcome the next step is is really important imagine the new corrective experience while you keep your awareness connected to your body so that your body can experience it as if it's really happening if you just do the mental exercise without helping your body experience something new it won't bring about change lastly check in with your body it will tell you if you're experiencing something new and integrating it or not
