Safely Mounting a Surge Protector on the Wall: A Comprehensive Guide
In today's tech-driven world, protecting your valuable electronics from power surges is not just a good idea, it's a necessity. One of the best ways to do this is by using a wall-mounted surge protector. Not only does it keep your devices safe, but it also declutters your space and provides easy access. Here's a step-by-step guide on how to hang a surge protector on the wall, ensuring both safety and functionality.
Understanding Your Surge Protector
Before you start, it's crucial to understand your surge protector. Most wall-mounted surge protectors come with a mounting bracket that can be attached to the wall using screws. Some may also come with adhesive strips for a non-permanent solution. Ensure you have all the necessary hardware and that your chosen mounting method is suitable for your wall type (stud, drywall, etc.).
Gather Your Tools
- Surge protector and mounting bracket
- Drill (if not using adhesive strips)
- Drill bit (if not using adhesive strips)
- Screwdriver (if not using adhesive strips)
- Tape measure
- Pencil
- Level
Choosing the Right Location
Select a location that's easily accessible and close to your devices. Avoid areas with high moisture or heat, and keep it away from direct sunlight. Also, ensure the chosen spot has adequate space for the surge protector's cord and the devices you'll be plugging in.

Marking the Spot
Once you've decided on the location, use your tape measure and pencil to mark where you'll drill the holes. Most mounting brackets require two holes, spaced about 16-24 inches apart. Make sure these marks are level.
Drilling the Holes (if necessary)
If you're using screws to mount the bracket, use your drill and the appropriate drill bit to make the holes. If you're drilling into drywall, you may want to use a wall anchor to prevent the screws from pulling out over time.
Attaching the Mounting Bracket
With the holes drilled, it's time to attach the mounting bracket. If you're using screws, simply screw the bracket into the wall. If you're using adhesive strips, follow the manufacturer's instructions to attach the bracket securely.

Securing the Surge Protector
Now that the bracket is securely attached to the wall, you can slide the surge protector onto the bracket. Most surge protectors will click into place when properly seated. Make sure it's secure and not wobbling.
Plugging In and Testing
Finally, plug in your devices and test the surge protector. Ensure all the outlets are working correctly and that the surge protector's indicator light is on (if applicable). If everything is working as expected, you've successfully hung your surge protector on the wall!
