The Olhausen West End Pool Table represents a significant investment for the dedicated player and the discerning collector. Hailing from a lineage of esteemed British craftsmanship, this specific model is engineered to deliver a consistent, high-performance experience in a format designed for dedicated spaces. Often found in private game rooms, upscale pubs, and specialized boutiques, the West End is more than just a table; it is a statement of commitment to the game.
Heritage and Design Philosophy
Olhausen, a name synonymous with quality in the cue sports world for well over a century, has imbued the West End line with a rich heritage of solid wood construction and precise engineering. The West End model specifically channels a classic, timeless aesthetic that complements traditional interiors while remaining versatile enough for contemporary settings. The focus is on creating a playing surface that is not only visually striking but also functionally superior, ensuring that the roll of the ball is predictable and true, shot after shot.
Key Construction Features
- Solid hardwood playing bed for exceptional stability.
- Premium-grade slate bed, professionally leveled for accuracy.
- Hand-finished rails with high-impact rubber cushions.
- Exquisitely woven, speed-controlled baize cloth.
- Durable, often hand-turned legs with a classic design.
The construction of an Olhausen West End is defined by its uncompromising use of materials. Unlike mass-produced alternatives, the primary playing surface is built from a single, thick slab of slate. This core element is the heart of the table, providing the necessary weight and density to minimize vibration and ensure that the path of the cue ball remains consistent, even after an aggressive break. The frame is typically constructed from dense, resilient hardwoods, offering a level of durability that allows the table to withstand years of rigorous play.
The Playing Experience
What truly sets the Olhausen West End apart is the feel of the game it produces. The level of craftsmanship translates directly to a superior playing experience. The bed is impeccably flat and the slate bed is cut and leveled with an exacting precision that results in a 'true' roll. Players will immediately notice the difference in response, with the cue ball gliding smoothly and reacting with the exactitude one expects from a professional-grade setup. This consistency is vital for both practice and competitive play, allowing a player to hone their skills with confidence.
Customization and Options
While the core design is a hallmark of Olhausen's reliability, the West End series often offers a degree of customization to suit individual tastes and spatial requirements. Potential buyers can typically choose from a selection of premium baize colors, ranging from deep, vibrant greens to more muted, classic tones. The frame and leg finishes are also customizable, allowing the table to integrate seamlessly into a variety of decors, whether that is a rich, dark wood finish for a study or a lighter hue for a social space.

For the owner, the Olhausen West End is a source of immense pride. It requires a certain level of care, an occasional brushing and the professional re-felting every decade or so, but it is designed to last for generations. This is not a piece of disposable furniture; it is a legacy item, meant to be passed down. It serves as the centerpiece of countless games, the stage for friendly rivalries, and the reliable partner in the solitary pursuit of perfection on the green felt.
