The M54B30 engine with Schrick cams, port work and custom headers goes into the BMW E24 635csi. After the initial run-in process and base tuning was set up.
The Background I have owned my RHD M635 for the past 21 years and, although rarely used in the last 10-15 years (only to shows normally), it is fast approaching the 100K miles mark so it is time to refresh the timing chain tensioners, something I want to tackle myself. Around 12 years ago I invested in a spare engine (with all ancillaries, including a gearbox) as insurance against anything.
Anybody havew any ideas, or have performed an engine swap on an E24. I am thinking about a M3 motor. I have an automatic trans which I want to stick with the auto because the car is to big to autocross and it is a daliy driver. Has anyone done it? I want to know if anyone has done it with a s52.

Hey i am about to purchase a 1985 635csi. I am looking to build it into a drift car. I am curious how to identify what motor is in it exactly? Its a m30 but m30b28? m30b34? The vin says it is a m30-3.5I I was also wondering what would be a good swap for this car that is fairly cheap to do also a good motor for a turbo set up? Any help would be fantastic before i go emptying the bank account!

I visited my local classic car garage in my small town and their was a gentleman working on a nice E9 that he said was pristine and restored, but the owner insisted on swapping to an M88 motor. He is having a difficult time since he cannot locate a wiring diagram for this engine. I said I would ask here for any help. The mechanic knows BMW's well and has reached out to VSR, Mesa, the E24 forum.

Hi again, Another engine swap in the making for a E24 635csi, want to put a V8 in, was thinking E39 M62 but do like the few extra HP from the N62B44 or 48, I realize the wiring aspec is a little more complex, will run donor car DME alongside auto and ecu for that.
