Toyota 4runner Used Reddit

Re: 4Runner - new or used by barnaclebob Tue Jan 09, 2024 4:37 pm I purchased a 2021 new because the discount per mile driven wasn't worth buying used. 4runners with 30k miles (lets say 20% of the vehicles dependable life span) were selling for 90% of the price of new. Even 4runners with 100k were selling for 40-50% the cost of new.

And ones from 2016 with 100,000km still for like $40,000 or just as much as new. I don't specifically want a new one, so what is the best used value for the money? Is buying a 4th gen with plus 250k km still reliable or sensible as my 5 year vehicle? Or do I buy a 10 year old 5th gen with 200,000km for $30,000? I'm in Canada btw.

Used 4runner makes no sense in 90% of use cases. Why save less than 10%msrp just to get 30-50k miles with most or all the warranty gone. Toyota is one brand it makes more sense to buy new, drive the best miles under warranty and either keep it for ever or sell it high in 3 years and get ya another new one lol. Reply reply ashxc18.

Toyota quality has really fallen over the past couple of years with the cheating scandals, new Tundra engines failing a few months after purchase, etc. I think the old Toyota trucks are bulletproof, but the new ones are a big question mark in terms of reliability and resale value.

A 4Runner with 90,000 miles and a salvage title due to flood will not trump one with a clean title and 220K. Same there are others with features or modifications that might make you go for a higher mileage vehicle because you will have more cash left over for other mods or trips.

I wouldn't consider buying used if it's 5 years or younger. Go new even if it's a little over budget since money is cheap right now and the vehicle should hold its value.
