1. Overview

Baaj ELD ("the App", "we", "us", or "our") is an Electronic Logging Device (ELD) application developed by Baaj LLC for commercial motor vehicle drivers and fleet operators. The App helps drivers maintain federally mandated Hours of Service (HOS) logs, submit Driver Vehicle Inspection Reports (DVIR), and connect to ELD hardware via Bluetooth.

This Privacy Policy explains what data we collect, why we collect it, how it is used and protected, and the rights available to you. By using the App you agree to the practices described here.

Regulatory context: Baaj ELD is designed to comply with the FMCSA ELD mandate (49 CFR Part 395). Certain data — including HOS logs, location records, and driver identification — is required by federal regulation and must be retained and available for roadside inspection.

2.3 Location Data

We collect your device's precise GPS coordinates (latitude/longitude) only at the moment a duty status change or log entry is created. We do not run persistent background location tracking. Location data is stored with each log entry as required by 49 CFR § 395.26.

2.4 Bluetooth Data

The App scans for and connects to compatible ELD hardware over Bluetooth Low Energy (BLE). We store the pairing identifier and connection history of paired ELD devices to enable automatic reconnection. BLE scanning and connections are active only while the App is in the foreground or during an active driving session.

2.5 Diagnostic & Usage Data

We use Google Firebase Crashlytics to automatically collect crash reports and error logs. These may include device model, OS version, app version, and an anonymised user identifier. We use Google Firebase Analytics to understand aggregate app usage (screen views, feature usage). No personally identifiable information is sent to analytics.

2.6 Technical Session Data

Authentication credentials are stored securely on your device to maintain your session and are automatically invalidated when you log out or when your session expires.

3. How We Use Your Data

  • Regulatory compliance: Generate and store FMCSA-compliant ELD records for HOS, DVIR, and driver inspection.
  • App functionality: Authenticate users, display current duty status, manage driving sessions, and sync data across devices.
  • ELD device connectivity: Connect to and exchange data with compatible Bluetooth ELD hardware.
  • Fleet management: Allow authorised fleet operators and carriers to review driver logs, vehicle inspections, and compliance data.
  • Safety & reliability: Detect and report app crashes and errors to improve stability.
  • Roadside inspection: Provide enforcement officers with required ELD data output per FMCSA rules.

We do not use your data for advertising, sale to third parties, or any purpose unrelated to ELD compliance and fleet management.

4. Data Sharing & Third Parties

4.1 Your Carrier / Fleet Operator

As required by FMCSA regulations, your HOS logs, DVIR records, and driving data are accessible to your employing carrier or fleet operator through their fleet management portal.

4.2 Law Enforcement & Roadside Inspection

Drivers are required by law (49 CFR § 395.22) to provide ELD output to authorised enforcement officers on request. The App provides display and transfer modes to facilitate this.

4.5 No Sale of Personal Data

We do not sell, rent, or trade your personal information to any third party.

5. Data Storage & Security

On-device: Log data is stored in an encrypted local database on your device to support offline operation. Authentication credentials are stored in device secure storage.

Cloud: Data is synced to our secure cloud backend over TLS-encrypted HTTPS connections. The backend is hosted in a secure cloud environment with access controls.

Security measures: We employ industry-standard security measures including encrypted data transmission, secure credential management, and logical data isolation between users. In the event of a data breach that affects your personal data, we will notify you as required by applicable law.

6. Data Retention

FMCSA regulations require that ELD records be retained for a minimum of 6 months from the date of creation. We retain your driving records, HOS logs, and DVIR data for at least this period and may retain them longer for compliance or legal purposes.

Where applicable law grants you the right to limit the use or disclosure of sensitive personal information, you may exercise that right by contacting us at privacy@baajeld.com. Note that limiting use of federally mandated data may affect your ability to use the App for its core compliance purpose.

  • Correct inaccurate personal data.
  • Delete personal data not subject to a legal retention obligation (note: FMCSA-mandated records cannot be deleted before the regulatory retention period expires).
