Temperature changes, especially near hot tubs or direct sunlight, weaken glass joints over time. Dropping or impacts during use or transport are frequent triggers. Poor storage—such as stacking candles or placing them near heat sources—exacerbates these risks. Understanding these factors helps users implement preventive measures, ensuring safety and preserving fragrance quality.

Store candles upright in a cool, dry place, away from heating elements and direct light. Avoid stacking multiple jars to prevent pressure on seals. When transporting, use protective casings or sturdy containers to minimize accidental drops. Always inspect jars before lighting for cracks or damage—early detection prevents unsafe use and maintains burn performance.

If a jar cracks, stop use immediately to avoid fire hazards. Assess the damage: small chips may still allow safe burning, but large breaks compromise integrity. Contact Bath and Body Works customer service for replacement guidance or safe disposal recommendations. Never attempt to use a damaged jar—prioritize safety and product reliability for optimal fragrance enjoyment.

Yes candles break during shipment, but do you really need to tape up an obviously damaged box with a broken candle? That's just being lazy and it was kind of annoying. If you've ever ordered a candle online only to have it show up with the glass jar completely shattered, you know the heart-wrenching pain. But even though its glass holder is destroyed, the actual candle is likely still in tiptop shape.

I just bought a 3 wick candle from bath and body works. I have phenomenal luck and managed to drop the candle thereby breaking the glass completely off of the candle itself. This sometimes happens when you leave the candle burning longer than recommended (4 hours) but you can pop it in the freezer for about 5 or 6 hours I do this with my brand new candles to make wax melts just be careful when taking it out the jar, make sure the wax has separated from the glass leaving a slight gap between glass and candle that's.
I've only had 2 broken candles. Like others have said, customer service is great about replacing them, and you can always rehome the wax in an empty bbw candle jar. Someone dropped their spray and the nozzle broke, another's cat tipped the candle over and it broke, etc.
Truly, it's not appropriate to try to return it or exchange it. Accidents do happen, and it's very unfortunate. I myself have accidentally broken at least 3 candles including an irreplaceable, expensive GC large jar 😭.
Bath & Body Works is putting to rest one of its newest scented candles. For Candle Day 2025, Bath & Body Works released a Pizza & Ranch candle, with notes of "gooey cheese, crispy pepperonis and ranch.".
