Smaller BioCube Option.The 3-stage filtration is well-designed for the tank's size, and the LED provides sufficient light for hardy invertebrates and macroalgae. This isn't a reef tank, but it's an excellent introduction to saltwater keeping at minimal cost and space.

I run dual canister filters on all my saltwater DTs. I run them in series as matched pairs, or in series with one that has adjustable pump speed if they are not matched. Capacity is the key. Target filtration that's rated for at least 4x your tank size, using a large single or multiple canister filters.
Water from the main reef tank is pumped through the refugium at a slow flow rate. As macroalgae grows, it removes phosphate and nitrate, lowering nutrient levels in the water. Pieces of rock rubble provide a place for macroalgae to attach to.

Corals and invertebrate filter feeders rely heavily on this type of current to bring food to them. So it is highly recommended that this type of water current is correctly simulated within the reef aquarium environment.
