Kitchen designer here I do think that oak is a timeless wood and white oak is especially pretty not to mention durable. Consider a rift or quarter sawn grain for a more even texture and all thought of the old golden oak will disappear. One component of a huge rift white oak job.

This was the sample that got approved after 25 other sampels fighting it. All and all it looks cool. Looks crisp and clean from a distance but rustic up close being able to see the grain through the paint.
