Drawing an Elephant: A Step-by-Step Guide
Getting Started with Your Elephant Drawing
To begin drawing an elephant, start by sketching a large oval for the body. The elephant's body is roughly the same shape as a pizza, so this is a good starting point. This way, the artist can ensure the proportions are accurate and the drawing will be balanced.
Understanding Elephant Anatomy
Before you start drawing the elephant, it's essential to understand the basic anatomy of the animal. Elephants have a long, flexible proboscis, large ears, two small eyes, a curved tusk (if male), and a long, flat tail. The size and shape of these features can vary depending on the breed.

Step 1: Draw the Elephant's Body
Step 2: Add the Ears
The elephant's ears are large and fan-shaped, providing excellent hearing and also regulating the body temperature. The artist can drawาร curved lines for the ears or use a wide 'V' shape with the base of the 'V' at the top of the head and the pointed end downwards. The ears are connected to the head by neck muscles.
Step 3: Draw the Head and Face

For the head, start by drawing a horizontal oval. Add two small circles for the eyes. The nostrils and mouth can be drawn as small ovals, resembling circles connected by a smaller dot in the middle. Add elephant tusks to the male's head, which can extend downwards.
Step 4: Color and Texture
Depending on the desired medium, the artist can use color markers, colored pencils, or charcoal to shade in the skin of the elephant. The basic texture can be achieved through brush stroke with the thoughtways of shading dark shades for patterns of wrinkled skin, getting progressively more light shades for the belly and areas of the legs.
