School bus transportation is a privilege, not a right. Students and parents should be aware that violations of the following rules may result in suspension from bus transportation and additional disciplinary action.
School Bus Rules
- Be on time at designated bus stops. Buses cannot wait for tardy students.
- Obey the driver’s suggestions and help ensure safety at all times.
- Ride only your assigned bus. Load and unload only at designated stops.
- Stay off the roadway while waiting for the bus. Form a line to board.
- Cross at least ten (10) feet in front of the bus when crossing the road.
- Wait until the bus stops completely before boarding or exiting.
- Remain seated while the bus is in motion.
- Use the front door to enter/exit unless there is an emergency.
- Do not leave the bus without the driver’s consent, except at home or school.
- Follow seat assignments. Keep feet out of aisles and off seats.
- Sit three to a seat, filling from the back when needed.
- Any instrument too heavy or large for the student to lift and carry up the steps by themselves should be avoided. Drivers have the responsibility and right to refuse any instrument or object on the bus that they see as a safety hazard.Musical instruments must be held by the owner. They may not be left in aisles, at front, or by the rear door.
- Keep head, arms, and hands inside the bus.
- Use courteous language. No profanity or vulgarity.
- Keep the bus clean. No eating, drinking, or tobacco use.
- No animals, weapons, or unsafe items allowed.
- No fighting, pushing, or shoving.
- Report any property damage to the driver. Students or parents are responsible for repair costs and may lose riding privileges.
- Parents are responsible for supervising students at the bus stop.
- Misconduct as defined in the Student Code of Conduct is prohibited.
Stay Out of the Danger Zone
Every bus has a DANGER ZONE—an area 10 feet in every direction around the bus where the driver cannot see you. Stay out of this zone to ensure your safety.
