Yep, many here on the forum do their own service (hence GS-911 or MotoScan to reset the light on newer bikes). Good news is the BMW boxer is pretty easy to service, valve checks don't require pulling a fuel tank and fairings, etc.
There are two types of maintenance, one that BMW calls a service and another that BMW calls an inspection. The one done at 6K, 18K, 30K, etc. will cost in the 250-450 range. The one done at 12K, 24, 36K, etc. will cost more. How much more depends upon things like is it time for a brake bleed, does the alternator belt need changing, etc.
BMW dealer quoted $245 to change in Balance to tires on the bike. Have to ask him to get an updated price for the 12K service.
