CalCOFI 9308NH CTD Date Processing Notes

Number of station-casts: 66 standard CalCOFI Station

Summary: The was the very first CalCOFI cruise to use the 911 Seabird CTD for all
66 stations. Up until this cruise, the Seabird was being tested then used for
daily primary productivity 6-bottle casts. It took awhile to us to feel this system
was reliable enough to replace the routine bottles-on-wire which was used since
1949 and earlier. CTD operators needed to be trained and competent in the software
as well.
The single set of primary sensors: temp, cond, & O2 worked well this
cruise and no replacements were required. All sensors were on their first cruise since
being serviced & calibrated. The O2 sensor did not have the scatter near-surface
typical of the YSI O2 sensor. So near-surface s=O2 sensor data agree very well with
bottle samples. The 0.999 Rsquare in the bottle O2 vs sensor O2 data supports
this statistically.

Software: DOS Datcnv(Seasoft exe), running in a Windows XP virtual machine on Windows 7.
Additional Seasoft processing done using v7.23.2 SBE Data Processing. Since the no sensors were
changed, only one .xmlcon file was used in the Derive module.

Corrections:
Cast 024 line.station number was corrected from 93.45 to 90.45.
Cast 032 was interrupted on the upcast at 60m so cast 032B finished the cast from 60m to surface.
Cast 032B processed upcast asc files was appended to cast 032.
Cast 041 CalCOFI line.station number was reported as 9308 in the .hdr file. This
was corrected to 83.110.
Cast 023 is missing - if I remember correctly, the backup floppy disk was unreadable.
There may be a copy in the CalCOFI data archives but I was unable to find it. This is
station 90.53.
