CalCOFI 9610RR CTD Data Notes

CalCOFI 9610RR was the first CalCOFI on RV Roger Reville. Since the ship made such
good transit times, there were many ancillary casts on the schedule.
In addition to PIs Goericke (series 600 casts), Collier deep cast, two Weibe casts,
there were two Haury 24hr station casts. Two stations were occupied for 24hrs and
several CTD casts were performed in the same spot. These casts were number 100s.
The 'adding hundreds' to the existing station number such as sta 007 with extra
casts 107-113, and sta 016 with extra casts 116-122. This allows us to correlate the
bottle samples from station with additional casts which may have different or no
bottle sampling.
I've process stations 001-066 normally, generating database-friendly csvs for the time
series. But also processed the extra stations, some which had bottle samples in the
ieh file. Goericke '600s' casts, most are to 125m, did not have standard bottle
sampling. Bottles were tripped but for Goericke's own analysis. Average bottle data
correction coefficients were used to correct the CTD sensor data. Collier's cast '716'
also were cruise-average bottle corrected. Rathburn's cast 447 was to 1000m and
bottle samples were collected, used for correcting sensor data and plotted.

CNV creation was done using Seasoft for DOS on a WindowsXP virtual machine running
under Windows 7. Additional processing was done using SBE Data Processing Modules once
the .cnv files were created. A .xmlcon file was created from the original .con files.
Since no sensors were changed, a single .xmlcon file was used to Derive Seasoft-corrected
CTD sensor data. Additional processing using SIO-developed bottle vs CTD software was
performed and these data are formatted to 2021 standards.
No data flags were applied since the primary sensor data were clean. There was some
noise in fluorometer data but that could be observed spikes not noise.
Cast 001 line.sta was changed in the .hdrs from 93.26.7 to 93.3 26.7 for proper formatting.
Cast 050 line.sta was changed in the .hdrs from 83.40.6 to 83.3 40.6 as well.

Additional cleanup for the .hdrs from the extra casts was done so the files would
parse properly. Primarily the line.sta designation was cleaned up, removing additional
labeling that identified the cast type. Additional comment fields were added on casts
that did not have the extra cast type label.

There appeared to be 3 different fluorometer settings used: 10x on casts 001-052, 107-716;
3x on casts 063-066; & 1x on casts 053-055. Regressions comparing flV vs chla are in the
Excel spreadsheet. These casts were processing accordingly with 3 .cfg of flV correction
coefficients.
