CalCOFI 0001NH CTD Data Processing Notes

Overall data look pretty good. There were some sensor rearranging which required
processing the data in a couple groups. Casts 001-029: transmissometer was on V1;
Cast 030-066: transmissometer was on V0. It looks like the fluorometer crapped out
on Cast 029's upcast. When swapping in a replacement, the fluorometer was switched
to V1.
For some reason casts 040-066 would not process using the Windows version of SBE
Data Processing software (ie DatCnv). Looking at the .dat files in a hex editor,
they look different. I do not know if the CTD computer was changed to an older
version of the acquistion program since I do not have the console ops notes.
Fortunately, I was able to run DatCnv in a DOS windows in a virtual version of
Windows XP on my Windows 7 HP CTD Data Processing laptop. Once the .dat files
were converted to .cnv, I was able to use the Windows version of SBE Data Processing
Suite on the data, following our established protocol. I know that pre-199807 will
require the DOS version of DatCnv but I was surprised that I had to switch in the
middle of this cruise. Pressure in the older version does not specify "digiquartz"
so casts 040-066 had to be run separately in some modules.

Some data were flagged as bad or questionable:
Cast 029 upcast - all fluorometer data were flagged bad "9"
Cast 038 downcast - O2 data from 0-16m were questionable
Cast 049 downcast - T2 & S2 had spikes at 35-36m, 86-87m, & 112-113m flagged bad "9"
Cast 049 upcast - T2 & S2 spike at 4-5m flagged bad "9"
Cast 055 upcast - O2 from 119-0m were flagged questionable "8", some data are fine
but there are some issues. Perhaps biofouling.
  S1 from 15-0m were questionable "8"
S2 from 85-0m had issues so block was flagged questionable "8" although some data
look okay. Resolving the good from bad data could be done using S1.
