CalCOFI 0104JD CTD Data Processing Notes

Standard 2001 Seabird 911+ setup running dual T & C sensor pairs with one YSI O2
sensor. We also ran two fluorometers - the standard SeaTech sensor and a new
under evaluation SeaPoint. Both sensor voltages were plotted vs bottle chl-a but
only the Seatech estimated chl-a are reported in the final CTD data.

Casts 049 & 051 had .dat file problems which required fixdat.exe application to
fix. After running this Seabird utility, the data look good.
Cast 049 is Santa Barbara Basin station.
Cast 050 was station 83.3 40.6 & the header had to be edited from 83.40.6 for
the station to parse to the station database ID 083.3 040.6.

The primary conductivity, hence salinity, data are better than the secondary
conductivity. Many casts had spikes in the secondary salinity and were data
coded '9' which excludes the data from plots or average salinity.
The one excepthion is cast 001 where the primary salinities look bad and secondary
salinities look fine. It was the first station and shallow. The primary salinities
on casts after 001 look fine. Refer to the plots for spiking problems since I did
not replot the corrected data just for this reference.

O2: the Beckman/YSI O2 sensor overestimated the surface oxygen on some early casts:
005, 006, 007, 008, 011, 012. That may be one of the reasons it was replaced on
cast 030. That sensor had an occasional spike that was flagged 8 or 9 but overall
worked well for the remainder of the cruise.

*****Note: although the transmissometer was configured in the .con file as V0 for all casts,
The SeaTech Fluorometer was on V0, transmissometer on V1.
So two .con files were created: 0104_001-029.con & 0104_030-066.
Casts 001-029 & 513 were re-processed using 0104_001-029.con.
Casts 030-066 were re-processed using 104_030-066.con.
BUT the transmissometer coefficients were incorrect for this model transmissometer so
BAT & %XMiss are not correctly calculated in the csvs. These values are normally calculated
in the Derive module so if good transmissometer data are needed. Please calculate the M & B
and add them to the .con files.

Seabird 911+ config:
V0: Seatech/Wetlabs Fluorometer
V1: Chelsea/Seatech Transmissometer
V2: Bentos/Datasonic Altimeter
V3: Biospherical PAR
V4: Beckman/YSI Oxygen Current
V5: Beckman/YSI Oxygen Temperature
V6: Seapoint Fluorometer
V7: Free
V15: no surface PAR
