CalCOFI 0201JD CTD Data Processing Notes
Casts 001-049 had a second fluorometer (Seatech on V0) in the .con files so they were
processed separately from Casts 050-066. Upon examination, there were no data in that
column so it's likely just a configuration error carried over from a previous cruise.
The Seapoint fluorometer is the primary fluorometer but the Seatech may have been
mounted on V6 for diagnostics and/or calibration. There were occasional request to
mount sensors on open channel for such purposes.
Overall the cruise data look pretty clean. There is the typical near-surface issues
with the Beckman/YSI oxygen sensor. It tends to underestimate the surface oxygen when
first deployed. On many downcasts, the surface to ~40-75m oxygen is underestimated;
on many upcasts, the surface to ~40-75m is overestimated. Averaging the upcast and
downcast oxygens may result in better agreement with bottle oxygen values.

Sensor configuration: V0: Seatech/Wetlabs Fluorometer (casts 001-049); V1: transmissometer;
V2: Altimeter; V3: Remote PAR; V4: Beckman/YSI O2 current; V5: Beckman/YSI O2 temperature;
V6: Seapoint fluorometer; V7: open

There were a couple very small spikes in salinity but only cast 065 upcast was data coded "8"
between 55-65m.
