CalCOFI 1004MF Data Processing Notes

Remember this CalCOFI was leg III so cast 001 started as cast 123.
1004arch.ieh (CalCOFI's legacy bottle data format) was merged with Seabird 911+ CTD data to bottle-correct
sensor data. Both cruise-average bottle corrections (all bottle samples vs CTD data) and station-corrected
(only station bottle data vs CTD data) bottle corrections were applied to Seasoft-processed 1m binavg CTD data.

Most of the data issues & coding involve the ISUS Nitrate sensor which had problems on several casts.
These data were edited (-99), datacoded "8" if questionable, or "9" if bad. When datacoded "9",
the estimated nitrate value were set to "NaN".
Since RV Miller Freeman's winch could not lift the 24-10L bottle rosette, only 12-bottles were closed per cast.
This required a separate primary productivity cast each day unless the station was shallow. These casts were
number "+500" - Station 134 CTD cast was #134 & 6-bottle prodo cast was #634. Bottle samples were collected from
both casts.
Casts 174 & 674 were Santa Barbara Basin - 674 was not prodo but 12 deep bottles; 174 was 12 shallow bottles.
This was done so we would have a complete, typical 24-bottle (nutrient) profile for an important cardinal station.

In order to process bottle-corrected data correctly, the CTD asc files (d1004174.asc & d1004674.asc;
u1004174.asc & u1004674.asc) were merged. The bottle data on stas 174 & 674 were also merged in the arch IEH file
since its used to correct the CTD sensor data (1004arch.ieh).

GPS data were not collected on Cast 123 & 124 so the standard latitude and longitude were edited into the station csvs.

On station 179, the 400m bottle oxygen reported in the IEH was not used since it looked questionable when plotted
versus the CTD oxygen profile. Inclusion of this value cause the CTD O2 profile to warp toward the questionable point.

On station 134, the CTD and CTD workstation had a communications failure ie termination failure. Only downcast CTD profile
data are available, so cruise-corr. bottle data were plotted since sta-corr was unavailable. There is no upcast data so
those plots are empty. Please note that there was a prodo cast prior to this failure so there is a shallow 6-bottle cast
on this station.

Datacodes added:
Cast 130: Bad ISUS voltage on downcast from ~475-515m; datacode 9 added, est NO3 values nulled
Cast 134: CTD failure at depth, no upcast or bottle data except cast 634 6-bottle prodo bottles. There are downcast sensor profiles.
Cast 135: Isus voltage dropouts -99'd, mostly good data
Cast 136: Isus voltage dropouts ~320-515m, these were -99'd, other downcast data okay; upcast data bad - all datacoded "9"
Cast 137: Bad ISUS voltage, no upcast or downcast data
Cast 151: Bad/questionable ISUS voltage, bad upcast & questionable downcast data
Cast 154: Bad ISUS voltage, no upcast or downcast data
Cast 155: Bad ISUS voltage, no upcast or downcast data
Cast 179: 400m bottle O2 looks bad, excluded from regression correction
