I've been reading a lot of somewhat disturbing posts on various forums regarding the EWS ring antennae system failling. Why on EARTH BMW deemed it necessary to put an alarm or anti-theft system on these freakin' bikes fails me. It should be an option at least, not something they just blinding.
I own a BMW R 1200 GS (K25/31)/2010. A few days ago, in an isolated position, the indication "EWS!" appeared in the screen, as I was in motion. A few minutes later the motorcycle turned off and it was not possible to start it again.
I tried with the spare key, as this is the advice in the. No start, no fuel pump priming and EWS sign on the dash. Went to work in 4 wheels and figured it was the key reader ring or a broken wire.
Got home and stripped the front of the bike no obvious issue with the wiring. Bike didn't start with bars turned left, right or center which was recommended to test foe damaged wiring. I took the time to rewire it and have had no more faults at all.
Problem solved! If you have a BMW K1200, the connector on the ignition module is more than likely the problem. Easy fix! Show less. ews error I had never had a problem with my ring antenna on my 2007 GS but before i shipped my GS to India the BMW dealer in the DC area informed me that there was a recall and that it would be replaced during the 10000 mile service.
