Coolant acts as a thermal regulator, absorbing excess heat from combustion and dissipating it through the radiator. Sustained temperatures above 105°C risk thermal stress on engine components, while readings below 80°C can lead to inefficient combustion and increased emissions. Monitoring these values ensures optimal engine function and extends service life.

My understanding is that oil temp is a much better indication of what's really going on inside your engine, than coolant temp. To burn off excess waste from the oil it must be brought up to full operating temperature. Your coolant heats up in as little as 5 minutes but oil takes much longer to get up to full operating temperature.

During driving, the coolant temperature may fluctuate within a certain range, but in general, the ideal coolant temperature should be kept at a low level to protect the engine. If the coolant temperature is too high or too low, it can cause the engine to overheat or overcool, which can affect its. Understanding Coolant Temperature Why Coolant Temperature Matters Coolant plays a vital role in regulating your BMW's engine temperature.
It absorbs excess heat generated during combustion and distributes it throughout the cooling system, preventing the engine from overheating. The optimal operating temperature for a BMW engine typically falls between 190°F and 220°F (88°C and 104°C. Using the App OBD Fusion plus kiwi 2, I saw my coolant temperature hovers around 210F.
