How can i
find
out if a kitchen fire has damaged other parts of my house?
if the fire was contained to the kitchen and put out before it spread to the rest of the house then it unlikely that there is immediate fire damage in other rooms. However, smoke and soot damage can spread much farther than the actual flames. At devine claims consultants we will conduct a thorough inspection of your entire home to identify what areas of your home were damaged by soot and smoke. My insurance company says that will only pay for repairs to my living room (where the fire happened) and not for damage anywhere else.
If our survey reveals that you have had a fire you could claim off your household insurance for the damage to be rectified. When making an insurance claim the property owner/insured person would contact their insurance company to initiate the claim process and will be assigned a loss adjuster. From this point, we will deal directly with the loss adjuster on your behalf by sending a full written survey report with photographs and a copy of the cctv footage. We will endeavour to get this information to the loss adjuster prior to them undertaking their assessment at the property to make this process as quick as possible for you the homeowner.
Oftentimes our customers get the cost of their chimney repairs covered under their home insurance policy. We work with registered professional property loss assessors who can assist you with free claims advice, or alternatively they can handle all aspects of a fire damage claim on your behalf. These assessors operate on a “no win no fee” basis structural damage like fire damage can spread to areas within your house that may not be visible to you. Often smoke and soot damage can extend to areas of a fire damaged property where the fire did not even reach. This means that it is vital that your fire damaged home is professionally cleaned to prevent any further long term damage.
Please note just because someone claims to be a chimney sweep this does not mean they have been professionally trained or assessed in the field. Please note anyone can purchase a hammer and wood saw from any builder’s suppliers but that doesn’t make them a qualified carpenter. Scammers carrying out “half cleans” for €35. I was investigating a large number of chimney fire claims for several household insurance companies in co. Wicklow. I found one scammer (no public liability insurance) was using a vacuum cleaner to remove only the chimney deposits from the smoke shelf located directly above the fireplace opening.
A chimney fire is a frightening occurrence and can be potentially dangerous to your property
our client contacted us to say that she noticed a crack on the chimney breast internally and a crack on the chimney stack.
Our assessor visited the property to inspect the damage. It was apparent that some form of damage was caused to the
chimney and she arranged for a cctv survey to be carried out to examine the flue. The survey confirmed damage to the flue as a result of a chimney fire. Clearys loss assessors reported the claim to insurers on our clients behalf and met with the loss adjuster to agree scope of works required to remedy the damage.
Not sweeping your chimney is the lead cause (this is of paramount importance when you buy a house which your not aware of the chimney cleaning regime or history – always, always have a chimney cleaned and checked before you light the first fire in a home you have just occupied). A good idea offered by chimney ireland & nationwide chimney repairs is a cctv chimney survey which will assess the condition of the chimney flue & stack for any blockages, cracked flue liners or hidden damage, build up of tar and soot etc. – contact them on 1890 929 555 and ask about the offer currently run where the cost of the cctv chimney survey inspection & report is discounted from any chimney repairs you have to undertake which provides you with a substantial saving on top of the satisfaction of knowing your fire or stove is ready to use & heating your home with the warmth & comfort of a real fire won’t lead to the disaster of your chimney going on fire !.
