Best Budget Graphics Card 2019 Australia – Top Picks for Gamers

Finding the best budget graphics card in Australia in 2019 meant balancing performance, price, and future-proofing—especially with rising game demands and fluctuating GPU prices. Whether you're building a new gaming rig or upgrading an older system, choosing wisely could save hundreds of dollars without sacrificing too much visual fidelity. This guide breaks down the top contenders that delivered excellent value for money during that pivotal year.

Top Budget Graphics Cards in Australia (2019)

Several GPUs stood out in 2019 for offering strong 1080p gaming performance without breaking the bank. The market was particularly competitive between AMD and NVIDIA, with both brands releasing compelling options under AUD $400. Here’s a look at the most recommended picks based on real-world performance, driver stability, and availability across Australian retailers like Scorptec, Mwave, and Umart.

AMD Radeon RX 580 8GB

The RX 580 remained a solid choice for budget-conscious gamers throughout 2019. With 8GB of GDDR5 memory and solid DirectX 12 support, it handled most modern titles at medium-to-high settings in 1080p. Its price often dipped below AUD $250, making it one of the best value propositions for entry-level builds. However, power consumption was higher than some NVIDIA counterparts, so a decent PSU was essential.

NVIDIA GeForce GTX 1660 Ti

For those willing to stretch their budget slightly, the GTX 1660 Ti offered near-GTX 1070-level performance with significantly better power efficiency. Priced around AUD $350–$400, it excelled in esports titles and newer AAA games at high settings. Its Turing architecture also brought improved encoding for streamers—a bonus for content creators on a tight budget.

AMD Radeon RX 570 4GB/8GB

Sitting just below the RX 580, the RX 570 provided capable 1080p gaming for under AUD $200. While it struggled with ultra settings in demanding titles, it was more than sufficient for smooth gameplay in popular games like Fortnite, Apex Legends, and Overwatch. The 4GB variant was adequate for most users, but the 8GB version offered better longevity as textures grew more complex.

NVIDIA GeForce GTX 1050 Ti

Though older by 2019 standards, the GTX 1050 Ti still found relevance in budget builds due to its low power draw and compact design. It didn’t require a dedicated power connector in many models, making it ideal for small form factor PCs. Performance lagged behind newer cards, but for casual gaming or office use with occasional gaming, it remained a reliable option under AUD $200.

Key Considerations When Buying in Australia

Australian buyers faced unique challenges in 2019: higher import taxes, limited stock during crypto-mining surges, and regional pricing differences. Always check local pricing on sites like StaticICE or PCPartPicker AU before purchasing. Additionally, ensure your power supply meets the card’s requirements—especially for AMD cards, which often drew more watts than NVIDIA equivalents.

Driver Support and Software Ecosystem

NVIDIA generally led in driver maturity and software features like GeForce Experience and ShadowPlay. AMD improved significantly with Adrenalin 2019 drivers, but occasional instability in new game launches was reported. For users prioritizing plug-and-play reliability, NVIDIA often edged ahead despite slightly higher costs.

Future-Proofing and Resale Value

While no budget card in 2019 could handle 1440p or ray tracing, choosing a GPU with at least 4GB VRAM and modern API support (Vulkan, DX12) ensured relevance for another two to three years. The GTX 1660 Ti and RX 580 held resale value well, thanks to their balance of performance and efficiency—important if you planned to upgrade later.

Final Thoughts on 2019’s Budget GPU Landscape

The best budget graphics card in Australia in 2019 wasn’t a single winner—it depended on your specific needs: raw performance, power efficiency, or software features. The RX 580 and GTX 1660 Ti led the pack for most gamers, while the GTX 1050 Ti and RX 570 served well for lighter workloads. By focusing on local pricing, power constraints, and intended use, Aussie builders could maximize their dollar without compromising too much on gaming experience.
