Located just a few miles north of Montgomery, this once. The HGTV series "Home Town Takeover," hosted by Ben and Erin Napier, debuted in May 2021. On the show, the Napiers traveled to Elmore County, Alabama, intending to improve the small town, Wetumpka, and its local economy.

In the years prior to being featured on Home Town Takeover, Wetumpka had been struggling with the same issues that plague many small towns in America - a declining population, shuttering businesses, and other financial hardships. But in January 2019, the town faced its toughest challenge yet.
The series will showcase 12 major renovations all over Wetumpka, Alabama, including restaurants, shops, historic homes, public spaces, a new farmers' market. When it airs later this spring, "Home Town Takeover" will showcase 12 renovation and upgrade projects in and around Wetumpka's downtown and historic district. With the help of some HGTV stars, they'll reveal what went into making each place feel special. Ben and Erin Napier are revisiting Wetumpka, Alabama for the upcoming HGTV special, "Home Town Takeover: Where Are They Now?" The one-hour special, which airs this Small Business Saturday, will see the "Home Town" hosts "explore the impact that 'Home Town Takeover' had on Wetumpka's residents, its surrounding communities and small towns across the country," Discovery announced. "Wetumpka's experience with the HGTV's 'Home Town Takeover' provided positive exposure for Millbrook as well.
Producers did a show follow-up and wanted to include a segment on how neighboring towns had been inspired and impacted," said Ann Harper, the City of Millbrook's Economic Development Director.
