8 I installed dolphin (18.12.2-1) as file manager (for most the things I use "ls" but sometimes a preview is helpful) in i3wm on an Archlinux and would like to be able to change the background color or the font color of it. Kill Dolphin, edit the kdeglobals file and try changing the BackgroundNormal value, and then reopen Dolphin to see if this is the case. In System Settings go to Colors, select a color theme that's editable, click the edit tab, in the Colors tab, you will see Color Set: and select View, Change the Alternate Background so it matches Normal Background. I managed to change the theme of dolphin by reading Arch wiki on qt and gtk, but I am struggling to change dolphins background its always white no matter which theme I choose, how can this be achieved? Thank in advance. If you want to change the color of your folder icons without installing a new icon set, Dolphin Folder Color is a great solution.

you can't change Dolphin's background from within Dolphin but it can be changed from within the system configuration > Look & Feel > Colour options in KDE. not sure how to do it in Gnome as have never used it. This will also have an effect on other applications though.
