What to look for when renting a car?
The possibility of renting a car once is a very convenient solution for people who travel by public transport, bicycle or on foot on a daily basis, and need a short-term car - for a weekend trip with friends, a business trip or a quick journey to a hard-to-reach place.
Before renting a car, however, it is worth paying attention to a few details, so that you do not accidentally expose yourself to additional costs.
Payment of the deposit
When renting, you cannot forget that the car rental company will charge you with a deposit. Most often this is done by freezing funds in your account. If the car is returned intact, the deposit is also 100% refunded. However, before renting a vehicle, it is worth making sure that we have enough funds on the account to be able to cover other expenses after collecting the deposit.
Additional fees
In the rental agreement, it is also worth looking for provisions on the daily mileage limit, because some rental companies charge an additional fee for exceeding it. It may be similar when we want to return the car to a branch other than the one we used - for example, in a different city. We can also expect an additional fee for returning the car in a condition that will require additional cleaning.
Vehicle insurance
What you need to check is your vehicle insurance and what exactly is included in such a package. If the rental does not include insurance, it is worth paying a little extra so that you do not have to pay later in the event of damage or theft of the car. If you plan to take turns with the other driver, it may turn out that it requires the purchase of an additional insurance package for him.
The same may happen when you go abroad with a rented car - therefore it is necessary to inform the rental company in advance about such intention.
Before signing a rental contract, let's study it carefully for hidden charges. The rental company may charge us with costs for lending additional equipment - for example, navigation or a child seat. It is also important to check what the fuel tank policy is like in a given company. Often the rental companies provide a car with a full tank of gas. If they require replenishment before returning the vehicle, and we forget about it, they can charge a fee on their own, which will be additionally increased by operating costs.
