Are Rag Quilts Safe For Babies

- I have been posting this message and emailing companies that offer the kits for baby rag quilts, but the message is still not getting through!Those pretty raggy quilts are a choking hazard for babies!! Just imagine a baby sucking and chewing ... Fleece---and I am in the process of making three---I always sew at least around the edges of any fleece blanket I make. You know they untie them----kids are kids! I have made various styles and sizes of fleece rag quilts for babies, but I make sure I cut the rag very short---1" -1 1/2" length so they won't choke on it.

February 16, 2019 -We’ve made rag quilts for babies all the way up to a queen size quilt. Moms seem to love the lighter weight flannel rag quilts and take them everywhere in their diaper bags. Great for snuggling and also as a cover up over baby in air conditioned malls and restaurants.

I was recently given plenty of pre-cut 9 x 9 flannel squares as a donation to our fundraiser and I was not sure what to make with it as our blankets are made with much smaller squares. October 7, 2025 -Keep in mind thatthe American Association of Pediatrics recommends not to use quilts or blankets within the crib for infant safety. Therefore, while your crib quilt may drape over the side when not in use, its actual size isn’t really important.

Plus they are perfect for using up fabric scraps. February 4, 2025 -I just finished my very first rag quilt for my soon to be born nephew (thanks to your tutorial) and at first I was thinking “Oh Man…this is gonna turn out horrible!!” =/ but as it started coming together it was looking better and better and in the end it turned out fabulous!!! Now I have two more babies coming into the family, so I get to make two more quilts!!!! YAY!!!! And I have teenage daughters who want quilts and they have friends who are ... This flannel baby rag quilt is a perfect size if you are just learning how to make rag quilts. Quilts are not recommended in a baby’s crib but make a perfect play area.
