Harmony Commons is designed to center the wellness of students, the community, and the environment. The building is designed to offer a variety of uses, with public spaces at the ground level including a servery, dining hall, peer resources, flexible event spaces, and offices. Harmony Commons at the University of Toronto Scarborough is at the centerpiece of the northward expansion of the University's 300-acre campus.

Designed to house 746 first-year students, along with supportive resident advisors, the building also serves the wider campus with its first full dining hall as well as central offices that serve student life and campus security. 🏠 We are excited to offer two types of rooms at Harmony Commons, each thoughtfully designed to meet your needs: 🛏️Single Rooms: Furnished with a twin bed, closet, desk, chair, and mini-fridge Share a bathroom with an adjoining room Perfect for a private and peaceful stay 🛏️Double Rooms: Equipped with two twin beds, closets, desks. Harmony Commons Student Residence uses up to 90% less heating and cooling and less than one-third of the energy than buildings without this type of infrastructure because of its triple-glazed windows, which have optimal insulation, orientation and ventilation, as well as walls with improved thermal performance. The team compared Harmony Commons to Foley Hall, another dormitory on UTSC's campus.

Foley Hall was built in 2003 and is not as large as the 746-bed Harmony Commons, but its similar occupancy type and use pattern make it a useful baseline condition for understanding how much energy (and carbon) thoughtful design can save.
