I've noticed these devices use Google DNS, even though I've set my WiFi to use a private DNS, yet ads continue to appear frequently.

Apparently these devices use Google DNS and that can't be changed on WiFi for some reason. I had to block it on the router using a static route so at least there's that. Archived post.
