Before we start, ensure you have a square piece of paper. For a standard-sized backpack, use a square that's about 15x15 inches. The larger the square, the bigger your backpack will be. Now, let's get started!

Preparing the Base

The first step is to create the base of your backpack. This will form the bottom and sides of your pack.

Start by folding your paper in half diagonally to form a triangle. Then, fold it in half again along the other diagonal. You should now have an 'X' crease on your paper. Unfold it back into a square.

Now, let's create the first pocket. Fold the top left corner to meet the center crease. Do the same for the top right corner. You should now have a kite shape.

Fold the top tip of your kite down to meet the bottom point. This will be the first pocket of your backpack.

Next, we'll create the second pocket. Fold the left side of your pocket to meet the center crease. Do the same for the right side. You should now have a smaller kite shape inside your first pocket.

Fold the top tip of this smaller kite down to meet the bottom point. This will be the second pocket of your backpack.

Now that we have our pockets, let's start shaping the backpack.

Fold the top layer of your pockets down to meet the bottom edge of your paper. This will create the top flap of your backpack.

Folding the Straps

To create the straps, fold the top left corner of your backpack down to meet the left edge. Do the same for the top right corner. You should now have two small triangles at the top of your backpack.

Fold these triangles up to create the straps. You can adjust the length of your straps by unfolding and refolding these triangles.

Finishing Touches

To finish your backpack, simply open up the pockets and straps. You can decorate your backpack with markers, paint, or stickers if you like.

To use your backpack, place your items inside the pockets, fold the top flap down to close it, and slip your arms through the straps.

There you have it! Your very own origami backpack. This project is a great way to recycle old paper and create a unique, functional item. Happy folding!
