Bmw 335I Water Temperature. 225 seems high, as water boils at 212, but the coolant isn't pure. I spoke to dealer about it, service rep said (really) engine temp guage shows oil temp, not water temp and that 230 or so was fine. I normally see 240 for daily driving.and around 260 on the track. The coolant temp is going to be about the same as the oil temp. It's required for emissions testing so you can use just about anything to measure it. The dme has 3 or 4 different modes it uses.when you're cruising on the highway it will go as high as 234 to burn off moisture, etc,. It's normal for it to be in the 230 range, with max temps around. We also need to remember that this is oil temp, not coolant temp. Water temp is a standard odbii reading. 108 c is 226 f so at 245, it appears that mine is running higher than that upper limit.
