[00:09.560 --> 00:11.800] Life insurance, you can use while you're still living. [00:11.800 --> 00:14.120] You are one, look at me. [00:14.120 --> 00:16.120] Learn more from your state farm agent today. [00:22.520 --> 00:23.040] Hello, everyone. [00:23.040 --> 00:23.800] I'm Rodrigo Whitfield. [00:23.800 --> 00:25.240] Let's get right to the news right now. [00:25.240 --> 00:28.400] In the news room, this new year begins with more [00:28.400 --> 00:31.680] suspicious car fires in the Los Angeles area. [00:31.680 --> 00:35.520] Officials said today the number of fires has risen to 39, [00:35.520 --> 00:39.120] someone or a group is torching vehicles. [00:39.120 --> 00:42.240] And in some cases, those fires spread to buildings and homes [00:42.240 --> 00:48.920] including one once occupied by singer Jim Morrison of the doors. [00:48.920 --> 00:52.200] The acts we've seen over the last 72 hours here in these communities [00:52.200 --> 00:54.640] have kept these public safety professionals up at night [00:54.640 --> 00:56.360] working tirelessly. [00:56.360 --> 00:59.080] Since December 30th, the Los Angeles fire department alone [00:59.080 --> 01:04.520] has responded to over 300 calls for service in the city. [01:04.520 --> 01:06.760] Police and fire officials are asking the public for [01:06.760 --> 01:10.200] information or surveillance video that may help them catch [01:10.200 --> 01:11.360] those responsible. [01:11.360 --> 01:14.640] A $60,000 reward is being offered in the case. [01:14.640 --> 01:17.600] And for Republican presidential candidates left off [01:17.600 --> 01:21.320] the Virginia primary ballot are joining rival Rick Perry [01:21.320 --> 01:23.600] by suing the state election board. [01:23.600 --> 01:26.800] They are disputing laws. They say are unconstitutional. [01:26.800 --> 01:30.160] Michelle Bachman, John Huntsman, Rick Santorum and New [01:30.160 --> 01:32.240] Gingrich joined the suit yesterday. [01:32.240 --> 01:36.480] Only Mitt Romney and Ron Paul are on the Virginia ballot. [01:36.480 --> 01:39.920] And Iranian scientists have reportedly produced and tested a [01:39.920 --> 01:43.840] nuclear fuel rod containing natural uranium that's according to [01:43.840 --> 01:47.920] an announcement posted on Iran's atomic energy agency website. [01:47.920 --> 01:52.400] If true, it's the first time Iran has progressed so far. [01:52.400 --> 01:54.080] And it's nuclear program. [01:54.080 --> 01:57.280] The state run news service also said today the military test [01:57.280 --> 02:01.680] fired medium range anti radar missiles today. [02:01.680 --> 02:05.120] The arrival of the new year did not ease tension on the [02:05.120 --> 02:06.880] streets in Syria. [02:06.880 --> 02:10.880] An activist group says at least 10 people died today and violent [02:10.880 --> 02:14.240] clash is between riot police and anti-government protesters. [02:14.240 --> 02:17.200] That's despite the presence of an Arab league monitoring [02:17.200 --> 02:18.000] mission. [02:18.000 --> 02:21.600] People filled public spaces across Syria again today. [02:21.600 --> 02:25.040] Optimistic that this year will mark the fall of President [02:25.040 --> 02:27.360] Bashar al-Assad. [02:27.360 --> 02:32.240] A huge blow for the handful of owners of the high-end hybrid [02:32.240 --> 02:34.960] vehicle known as Fiskir Karma. [02:34.960 --> 02:39.840] The 239 vehicles on the road have been recalled because of a fire hazard [02:39.840 --> 02:40.880] under the hood. [02:40.880 --> 02:44.800] The maker Fiskir automotive wants to replace the batteries. [02:44.800 --> 02:51.040] This picture is of an older model, sticker prices start at about $100,000. [02:51.040 --> 02:55.280] In just two days, the first real test of the Republican presidential [02:55.280 --> 02:59.040] candidates unfolds in Iowa ahead of Tuesdays caucuses. [02:59.040 --> 03:04.080] The Des Moines registers poll has rick Santorum in third place behind [03:04.080 --> 03:07.040] Mitt Romney and Ron Paul in first and second. [03:07.040 --> 03:11.440] Still the poll shows a large number of Iowa voters undecided [03:11.440 --> 03:16.480] since Joe John's is live in Atlantic, Iowa with the latest force right now. [03:16.480 --> 03:20.240] So we know that Mitt Romney and Ron Paul have to feel pretty galvanized [03:20.240 --> 03:22.320] by that latest poll. [03:22.320 --> 03:24.320] Thanks, so. [03:24.320 --> 03:28.160] I mean, it's pretty clear that Mitt Romney is feeling confident and he's [03:28.160 --> 03:34.560] not saying that he's going to win here in Iowa, but he's expecting to do pretty well. [03:34.560 --> 03:39.840] The Ron Paul campaign certainly very confident too, Fred, simply because they know [03:39.840 --> 03:42.480] that their supporters are very reliable. [03:42.480 --> 03:44.000] They expect them to show up. [03:44.000 --> 03:48.480] They think that their supporters are very fervent and so that makes the difference [03:48.480 --> 03:53.440] for them as well, but rick Santorum is probably the most interesting [03:53.440 --> 03:58.320] story happening here in Iowa right now, and that's because he's [03:58.320 --> 03:59.120] surging. [03:59.120 --> 04:03.280] If you look at that poll you referred to, he's in third place. [04:03.280 --> 04:07.040] It's all fairly tightly bunched, not within the statistical [04:07.040 --> 04:14.080] margin error, fairly tightly bunched, but if you look at just the last two days, [04:14.080 --> 04:17.440] he is closer to second, maybe one or two points out there. [04:17.440 --> 04:22.400] So this is a guy who's been all over the state. [04:22.400 --> 04:27.920] He's been here about a hundred different days in Iowa. [04:27.920 --> 04:33.200] He's done something like 350 town halls here in Iowa. [04:33.200 --> 04:37.360] And he's been to 99 all 99 counties in the state. [04:37.360 --> 04:42.000] So people know him, and he's a pretty good fit for them as well, [04:42.000 --> 04:47.360] because of his conservative views and the way he talks to the voters [04:47.360 --> 04:52.160] is a way that they understand, if you will, a lot of social [04:52.160 --> 04:56.640] conservatives and evangelicals in the state vote in the Iowa caucuses. [04:56.640 --> 05:00.640] So there's a lot of hope there in their campaign that this search means [05:00.640 --> 05:04.320] are going to do very well, and that they will, in fact, get one of the [05:04.320 --> 05:11.200] tickets out of here to move on and expect some some real momentum going in to say, [05:11.200 --> 05:12.800] New Hampshire and South Carolina. [05:12.800 --> 05:19.040] And talk about hope, Joe Michelle Bachman is still talking that she's seeing victory [05:19.040 --> 05:24.160] because she says she won that Iowa straw poll, and despite what the polls are saying [05:24.160 --> 05:29.280] overnight, she still feels very confident that Iowa is going to vote well for her. [05:31.680 --> 05:36.320] And look, I mean, you can have surprises happen here in Iowa. [05:36.320 --> 05:38.320] This is a very authoritative poll. [05:38.320 --> 05:43.040] You know, it's very trustworthy and done by great people. [05:43.040 --> 05:49.120] That said, there are something like, they're 41% of the people who [05:49.120 --> 05:52.720] were expected to go and vote, say, they could change their mind. [05:52.720 --> 05:55.920] So it's not written in stone that they're going to vote for the people that are [05:55.920 --> 05:57.120] supporting at this moment. [05:57.120 --> 06:03.600] And four years ago, there's some suggestion that something like 17% of the caucus [06:03.600 --> 06:08.880] goers actually decided who they were going to choose on the day of the caucuses. [06:08.880 --> 06:15.680] So there's room for some change here and who knows what's going to happen at the end of the day. [06:17.280 --> 06:23.760] It depends a lot of times on the person who shows up and speaks for the individual candidate. [06:23.760 --> 06:29.200] And things can happen at these caucuses that don't necessarily happen in a primary. [06:29.200 --> 06:32.720] So never say never for Michelle Bachman or anything else. [06:32.720 --> 06:35.280] All right, exactly what she wants people to say, right? [06:35.280 --> 06:37.600] All right, Joe John, thanks so much in Atlantic. [06:37.600 --> 06:42.800] Iowa, all right, so let's talk more about why Iowa is so pivotal in the Republican race [06:42.800 --> 06:44.080] or is it? [06:44.080 --> 06:48.000] Carol Hunter, the politics editor for the Jamoran Register joining me right now. [06:48.000 --> 06:52.880] So Carol, let's begin with your papers polling showing a search for Rick Santorum [06:52.880 --> 06:56.240] and Thurmond Romney and Ron Paul leading one and two. [06:56.240 --> 06:58.000] How was that poll conducted? [06:58.000 --> 07:07.520] Well, we poll independence and Republicans and ask if they're going to go to the precincts [07:07.520 --> 07:08.880] on caucus night. [07:08.880 --> 07:12.800] So it's a poll just of likely Republican caucus goers. [07:12.800 --> 07:15.440] We poll 600 and 2 individuals. [07:15.440 --> 07:21.360] So it's a big sample size, but still our pollster and selser will tell you there are all sorts [07:21.360 --> 07:25.120] of factors that make a polling for the caucuses very tricky. [07:25.120 --> 07:29.680] And there are all sorts of factors that come into whether people show up for that caucus. [07:29.680 --> 07:32.240] We can see right there, it's extremely windy. [07:32.240 --> 07:34.880] There have been some pretty severe winds throughout today. [07:34.880 --> 07:39.360] Now, let's look at the forecast, what is Tuesday hold and how might those big winds [07:39.360 --> 07:43.840] or cold temperatures impact who shows up for the caucuses? [07:45.680 --> 07:51.840] Well, all of a sudden it feels like January and Iowa, we had had some fairly warm weather. [07:51.840 --> 07:58.560] But now it does come down to getting those caucus goers out on Tuesday night. [07:58.560 --> 08:05.280] The general rule of thumb is thought that if it's really bad weather that Ron Paul might benefit [08:05.280 --> 08:08.960] because he does have this very loyal group of followers. [08:08.960 --> 08:13.680] But you can bet that all of the campaigns are out making their final touches. [08:13.680 --> 08:19.440] We'd like to have said that the final week here is the sprint. [08:19.440 --> 08:23.280] Well, this day and caucus day is the lunch. [08:23.280 --> 08:28.800] It's about touching caucus goers calling them, having another Iowa call them, [08:28.800 --> 08:31.520] and ask them to get there on caucus night. [08:31.520 --> 08:34.720] Well, you and I spoke earlier and you talked about how this caucus, [08:34.720 --> 08:38.160] traditionally is one that kind of widdles the field. [08:38.160 --> 08:44.480] Is that still the feeling that this will go as conventional wisdom has gone for Iowa caucuses? [08:44.480 --> 08:52.640] Yes, I think it's very tough if you fall out of that top three or especially for [08:52.640 --> 08:55.120] to go forward with much confidence. [08:55.120 --> 09:00.880] The money dries up for one thing, the money starts flowing to the people who do the best. [09:00.880 --> 09:06.480] So as much as confidence as someone like a Michelle Bachman does express, [09:06.480 --> 09:14.080] and as they say, you don't rule anything out with the caucuses until caucus night and the votes are counted. [09:14.080 --> 09:19.200] It's hard to foresee her doing well if she comes in in six place. [09:19.200 --> 09:24.640] Wow, all right. I care all hunter. Thanks so much for braving the conditions out there [09:24.640 --> 09:27.280] from the Des Moines Register as politics editor. Appreciate that. [09:27.280 --> 09:30.000] All the best. Come Tuesday for the big caucus day. [09:30.800 --> 09:33.120] All right, a dangerous start to the new year. [09:33.120 --> 09:36.000] Cars are being torched in the Los Angeles area. [09:36.000 --> 09:49.360] Police are blaming why. We talk alive to the city's supervisor next. [10:06.000 --> 10:17.840] I want to see something from your heart, right at the, right at the. [10:26.960 --> 10:30.640] If you have placed three tablespoons of sugar a day with splendor, [10:30.640 --> 10:32.560] you'll save 100 calories a day. [10:32.560 --> 10:39.120] That could help you lose up to 10 pounds in a year, and now get even more with splendor essentials, [10:39.120 --> 10:44.320] the only line of sweeteners with a small boost of fiber or antioxidants or be vitamins in [10:44.320 --> 10:49.440] every packet. [12:12.960 --> 12:17.040] Some one or group is setting parked cars on fire. [12:17.040 --> 12:22.160] Today's city official said the number of fires has risen to 39 since Friday, [12:22.160 --> 12:27.840] but not just cars have burned buildings and homes including one once occupied by [12:27.840 --> 12:29.520] singer Jim Morrison of the doors. [12:31.440 --> 12:37.360] In a general sense, most of these fires have started as result of something that ignites a vehicle [12:37.360 --> 12:43.600] fire next to a structure in certain cases. So we are seeing auto fires as one of the primary [12:44.880 --> 12:49.120] incendiary items that happens first. So that's what we're looking for. But that doesn't mean [12:49.120 --> 12:52.800] that's the only thing out there and just like we're keeping our eyes on these communities, [12:52.800 --> 12:56.000] there's other communities out there that they're watching for. So most of these have been [12:56.000 --> 13:00.880] auto fires that have led or exposed onto an apartment building and that's where there's a lot of our [13:00.880 --> 13:07.040] biggest threat. They are working on hundreds of clues, interviewing dozens of witnesses, picking up [13:07.040 --> 13:12.560] countless pieces of evidence and working together in a coordinated effort to try and solve this [13:12.560 --> 13:17.920] problem and to work with the arson investigators who are our lead to solve this problem and to catch [13:17.920 --> 13:19.600] this guy and put him in custody. [13:20.400 --> 13:24.400] All right, a frightening situation. Joining me right now, Los Angeles County Supervisor, [13:24.400 --> 13:32.000] Zev Yaroslovsky. So Zev is their surveillance video anywhere that just might help you find [13:32.000 --> 13:33.040] a suspect or two. [13:34.480 --> 13:37.920] Well, my understanding is there is some surveillance video. I don't know what to [13:37.920 --> 13:44.400] extend. It's helped. It can't hurt. There are a lot of leads being processed by the arson [13:44.400 --> 13:48.800] task force, which is made up of the County Sheriff's Department of the LA Police Department and the [13:48.800 --> 13:53.840] alcohol tobacco firearms folks. They're going to catch this guy or these people. There is no [13:53.840 --> 13:59.280] question in my mind about it. It's just a matter of time and the sooner the better. This guy right now [13:59.280 --> 14:05.040] has been an arsonist, but if somebody gets hurt or killed, suddenly that becomes attempted murder [14:05.040 --> 14:10.320] or murder. So this arsonist or arsonist would be well advised to knock it off and turn himself in [14:10.320 --> 14:14.800] because he's going to do some hard time, very hard time. So besides the fact that they are cars [14:14.800 --> 14:19.760] being targeted, is there a common thread here, types of vehicles, the way in which they're parked, [14:19.760 --> 14:27.120] the types of neighborhoods? Well, I don't want to get it any detail, but I think it's common knowledge [14:27.120 --> 14:31.600] that the most common detail is that these cars are parked, most of them are parked [14:32.400 --> 14:37.360] in ground level parking garages with an apartment building that overhangs the garage. [14:37.360 --> 14:44.480] So they light the fire in the car and the flames then rise to the second floor and several cases [14:44.480 --> 14:48.720] have engulfed the apartment buildings involved. Fortunately, no one has been hurt or killed to [14:48.720 --> 14:53.600] this point, but I think that's just a matter of luck. People are being very vigilant in the communities. [14:53.600 --> 14:58.880] The communities in question are very dense communities, apartment houses. There's not a lot of [14:58.880 --> 15:04.640] room, so the fire gets through the car and into the building and you're in a conflagration. [15:04.640 --> 15:10.000] But people are being very vigilant and we're asking people to be vigilant. If they see any suspicious [15:10.000 --> 15:17.920] activity around a car or parking garage, to call 911 immediately. And if anyone has any information [15:17.920 --> 15:24.880] that they want to share with law enforcement, the arson test force, to call 1-800-222-8477. [15:24.880 --> 15:31.600] It's two tips. They will take your information anonymously and process it. Again, I say I think [15:31.600 --> 15:36.800] they're making progress and I have no doubt in my mind that the person or persons involved in this [15:36.800 --> 15:44.480] are going to be apprehended soon enough. Okay, so one more time that tip line, 1-800-222-8477, [15:44.480 --> 15:53.120] are there at least any witnesses that have given you any general descriptions of who may be behind this? [15:54.400 --> 16:00.080] I'm not aware personally of that, but the arson task force I'm sure is I know it's processing [16:00.080 --> 16:03.840] every lead. They have an unprecedented number of detectives and investigators working on this [16:03.840 --> 16:09.440] right now. The volume of calls in the fire department of the last 72 hours has increased 17% over [16:09.440 --> 16:15.200] the same period last year. It gives you an idea of what the workload is. So they're working 24 hours [16:16.240 --> 16:20.640] and they're going to break this case. These are the best in the business. All right, [16:20.640 --> 16:25.440] Los Angeles, kind of supervisor, Xavier Slavski. Thanks so much for your time and all the best [16:25.440 --> 16:31.760] and best of luck and investigation. A 2012 entered with a big bang and cheers from New York to Rio de Janeiro. Take a look. [15:14.140 --> 18:55.760] . The situation in the pool blizzard Monday afternoon at 4 Eastern, I'm CNN. [21:33.440 --> 21:38.880] And this just into CNN when I bring you CNN has just confirmed that a U.S. Forest Service [21:38.880 --> 21:43.520] Ranger at Mount Rainier National Park in Washington State has been shot and killed, [21:43.520 --> 21:48.720] still unclear the circumstances of what took place according to the park spokesperson. [21:48.720 --> 21:53.280] However, the gunman is still at large. We'll bring you up to date when we get more information [21:53.280 --> 21:56.080] about that investigation unfolding right now. [21:57.280 --> 22:01.760] meantime, the Sunday talk shows were walled wall with the Republican candidates giving [22:01.760 --> 22:06.960] their final pitches before Tuesdays. Iowa caucuses take a listen and look. [22:06.960 --> 22:17.520] What do you think the appeal is there with Rick Santorum? Why is he suddenly become [22:19.520 --> 22:23.760] kind of the person to watch? Well, maybe it's the people who just got frustrated with the [22:23.760 --> 22:26.880] other ones and they're just shifting their views. That's one thing you can't say about [22:26.880 --> 22:31.680] my supporters. They don't shift their views. I'm the strongest core conservative in this race. [22:31.680 --> 22:37.440] There is no comparison with all of the other candidates in my credentials. No other candidate [22:37.440 --> 22:43.280] has current national security experience in the race. I sit on the House Intelligence Committee. [22:43.280 --> 22:48.400] I am daily involved with the issue of national security. No other candidate is. [22:48.400 --> 22:53.280] Why should those voters caucus for you Tuesday night and not for Rick Santorum? [22:53.280 --> 22:58.160] I'm not just focused on that set of voters. We're reaching out to everyone who wants to see [22:58.160 --> 23:03.040] America back working again and I've got a track record of doing it. My surge is going to come [23:03.040 --> 23:08.000] on January 3rd. After the people of Iowa do what they do, which is actually analyze the [23:08.000 --> 23:13.120] candidates, figure out where their positions are, find out who's the right leader, who's got [23:13.120 --> 23:16.480] the what it takes to defeat Barack Obama and to lead this country. [23:16.480 --> 23:28.160] I'm wondering if some of these attacks on you that have been out there for the past 10 days [23:28.160 --> 23:33.200] have given you any pause about staying inside the Republican Party? I haven't even thought about [23:33.200 --> 23:37.920] it except when people are you keep asking about it because I have a race going. I'm not essentially [23:37.920 --> 23:45.280] tied for first place and I would even consider doing anything like that. So I don't like [23:45.280 --> 23:50.800] absolutes. I don't want to say I will never do so and so. Your Iowa State chair, Kent Sorens [23:50.800 --> 23:58.480] and a state senator here, jump ship went to work last Wednesday for Ron Paul. You claim that [23:58.480 --> 24:03.440] he told you that it was about money, but then when your deputy campaign manager or fellow [24:03.440 --> 24:06.960] named Westiness said, no, that's not true. Wasn't about money. He was let go. [24:07.680 --> 24:12.400] Is your campaign in disarray? Oh, absolutely not. You know, the other part that you failed [24:12.400 --> 24:17.440] report is that there are other people outside the campaign who said that he also told them [24:17.440 --> 24:22.800] that he'd received money. So this is pretty clear. And remember this Tuesday night, the Iowa [24:22.800 --> 24:28.240] caucuses watch it all unfold live with the best political team on television. America's choice [24:28.240 --> 24:35.040] 2012 coverage of the Iowa caucuses be in Tuesday night, January 3rd, 7 p.m. Easter time right here [24:35.040 --> 24:41.840] on CNN. And as we count down to the Iowa caucuses Anderson Cooper takes a closer look at what [24:41.840 --> 24:48.080] each of the candidates is doing to win last minute support and countdown to Iowa final 48 hours [24:48.080 --> 24:51.520] that's tonight 8 p.m. Eastern time right here on CNN. [24:52.800 --> 24:58.160] All right. So the number two new years resolution behind your health. Usually number one, [24:58.160 --> 25:03.360] your financial health eliminating debt. Plus, the new year is estering in a new voter laws that could affect you [25:09.760 --> 25:13.440] or run through some of them. [25:23.360 --> 25:31.680] Our economy, our workforce. We've all taken some big hits, but this is America. [25:32.480 --> 25:38.800] With more energy from coal, the fuel that supplies nearly half our electricity affordably, [25:38.800 --> 25:45.920] we'll keep energy costs in check jobs in America and together we will power the next great [25:45.920 --> 25:49.600] comeback. Clean coal, that's America's power. [25:54.080 --> 25:58.800] Sitting in the rare seed, you can show your drinks, get a massage, [25:58.800 --> 26:07.440] put your feet up, and watch DVDs. There's really only one thing you can't do. [26:09.600 --> 26:17.840] Cry, ranked highest in vehicle appeal by J.D. Powering Socials, the eggless from Hyundai. [26:19.680 --> 26:24.480] It's a little things in life that make me smile, spending the day with my niece. I don't [26:24.480 --> 26:29.920] use super polygrip for hold because my dentures fit well before those little pieces would get [26:29.920 --> 26:34.080] in between my dentures and my gum, and it was uncomfortable. Even well-fitting dentures [26:34.080 --> 26:39.120] lead in food particles. Super polygrip is ink free. With just a few dabs, it's clinically proven [26:39.120 --> 26:43.280] to seal out more food particles, so you're more comfortable and confident while you eat. [26:43.280 --> 26:47.680] So it's not about keeping my dentures in. It's about keeping the food particles out. [26:47.680 --> 26:55.600] Tries ink free super polygrip. Lactade milk is easy to digest. [28:04.000 --> 28:11.760] Hello, we're at top stories right now. I'm mild earthquake. [28:11.760 --> 28:17.840] She took eastern Ohio yesterday, registered about 4.0 and struck about a week after a smaller [28:17.840 --> 28:22.160] quake rattled the same area. Residents said they saw houses moving. [28:22.160 --> 28:27.200] State officials are exploring a theory that a large-scale well project might be contributing [28:27.200 --> 28:33.680] to seismic activity. And despite intense GOP opposition, new light bulb standards are [28:33.680 --> 28:38.480] being phased in starting today. Conservatives have blasted the rules as a classic case of [28:38.480 --> 28:44.400] unnecessary federal regulation. Congress passed the 2007 energy law requiring traditional [28:44.400 --> 28:51.840] incandescent bulbs to be 30 percent more efficient in 2012. Critics argued that the rules [28:51.840 --> 28:57.520] would greatly restrict consumer choices by pushing out traditional incandescent bulbs in favor of [28:57.520 --> 29:04.560] more expensive LED bulbs. And some new voter laws are hitting the books this new year. [29:04.560 --> 29:08.720] Athena Jones is live in Washington with a look at some of the news laws taking effect. [29:08.720 --> 29:13.200] Athena? Yes, hello. We thought we just give you a sampling of a wide range of laws that are [29:13.200 --> 29:18.160] coming onto the books today. Let's start with North Carolina. There are people who live overseas [29:18.160 --> 29:22.000] are going to have an easier time registering to vote and voting, whether they're service [29:22.000 --> 29:27.120] members or civilians. Let's move on to California, interesting new law. There joins the state [29:27.120 --> 29:32.000] to the national popular vote compact. Now, that's agreement among several states to give all [29:32.000 --> 29:36.800] of their electoral votes to the candidate who wins the nationwide popular vote. Now, of course, [29:36.800 --> 29:41.440] it doesn't go into effect until states that hold 270 electoral votes. That's what it takes to [29:41.440 --> 29:46.000] win the presidency, have passed the law. They're about halfway there. Several more states have [29:46.000 --> 29:50.640] to pass before it goes into effect. Another interesting California law will allow new citizens [29:50.640 --> 29:55.680] to register a vote and to vote all the way up to you and through election day. Now, one big [29:55.680 --> 29:59.840] thing that's been a trend this past year with state legislatures across the country has been [29:59.840 --> 30:06.240] voter ID laws. As of right now, some 31 states require some form of identification to vote, [30:06.240 --> 30:12.000] whether it's a photo or without a photo. And starting today, voters in Tennessee and Kansas [30:12.000 --> 30:16.960] will be required to present a photo ID in order to vote. I should mention that Texas has also [30:16.960 --> 30:22.240] passed a voter ID law, but under the voting rights that has to be pre-cleared by the Department [30:22.240 --> 30:26.960] of Justice before it can go into effect. And I should note also that the DOJ just denied [30:26.960 --> 30:31.760] pre-clearance to South Carolina for its photo ID law. One more thing I want to mention with [30:31.760 --> 30:35.920] an interesting new law is Tennessee. State officials, they are state election officials, [30:35.920 --> 30:41.280] will now be required to go through the state voter roles and compare those to a database [30:41.280 --> 30:45.680] to make sure that no non-citizens are registered to vote. And if there's any evidence that that [30:45.680 --> 30:50.720] might be the case, those votes will be contacted and asked to prove that they are citizens. [30:50.720 --> 30:56.400] So a lot of new laws come into effect this year. Of course, with these voter identification laws, [30:56.400 --> 31:00.800] proponents say what they're trying to fight fraud, critics on the other hand argue that [31:00.800 --> 31:05.040] they're going to end up disenfranchising some voters, especially poor and minority voters. [31:05.040 --> 31:09.200] But one thing we could be pretty sure of this year is that as we approach November, [31:09.200 --> 31:12.400] more and more states will begin to roll out more laws affect in the election. [31:12.400 --> 31:17.840] Okay, Athena Jones, thanks so much for that update. And there are a few other unique laws that [31:17.840 --> 31:23.360] take effect today. By the way, Utah is banning happy hour. While California and Oregon are [31:23.360 --> 31:30.160] prohibiting the sale of shark fins and shark fins soup coming up, a staying financially healthy [31:30.160 --> 31:36.240] in 2012, reduce your debt, cut spending. We've got some tips to keep your resolutions intact [31:36.240 --> 31:43.200] in the new year. And as long as we're talking about New Year's Day, it was this day in 1962 [31:43.200 --> 31:50.240] that the FAD 4, the Beatles auditioned for Death of Records. And you know what? They were rejected, [31:50.240 --> 31:54.080] decimated one of the biggest mistakes in music history on this day. [32:00.640 --> 32:06.640] That's was the golf's best tourism season in years. All because so many people wanted to visit [32:06.640 --> 32:10.560] us in Louisiana. They came to see us and Florida. [32:10.560 --> 32:15.120] Nice drive. They can't do hang out with us in Alabama. Let's folks heard Mississippi had the [32:15.120 --> 32:20.480] welcome sign out. They couldn't wait to get here. This year was great. The next year's going to be [32:20.480 --> 32:26.160] even better. And anyone who knows the golf knows that winter is prime time fun time. Sun is out, [32:26.160 --> 32:31.680] the water is beautiful. You can go deep sea fish for amberjack, rooper, and macro. Our golf [32:31.680 --> 32:36.560] courses are open. Our band and breakfast have special rates. And migrating water fell from [32:36.560 --> 32:42.000] all over. Make this a bird watchers paradise. So if you missed it earlier this year, come on down. [32:42.000 --> 32:49.120] If you've already been here, come on back to Mississippi. Or Louisiana. Alabama. The golf [32:49.120 --> 32:54.880] America's getaways spot. No matter where you go. So come on down and help make 2012 and even [32:54.880 --> 32:59.680] better year for tourism on the golf. Brought to you by BP and all of us who call the golf home. [32:59.680 --> 33:05.760] Who's Anderson keeping honest tonight? We're not trying to twist anyone's word. You believe [33:05.760 --> 33:09.920] he was an Afghanistan that he was not in Pakistan. For simply trying to get some basic questions [33:09.920 --> 33:14.080] to answer, you want to show you the truth of what is happening in Syria. Isn't it? Your job [33:14.080 --> 33:19.680] is a leader to actually leave teaching the marks every night. AC 360. CNN Monday night at [33:19.680 --> 33:26.080] 810 Eastern. A two hour CNN special event. According to the consulting firm [34:56.720 --> 35:03.760] ascend, this year there has been just one fatality for every 7.1 million passengers worldwide [35:03.760 --> 35:09.440] that's the best safety level on record. The previous best was in 2004. Travel experts say [35:09.440 --> 35:15.120] better technology and better crew training has helped make flying less hazardous. So let's hope [35:15.120 --> 35:21.440] 2012 even safer. So it's the number one issue in American homes getting your financial house [35:21.440 --> 35:27.360] in order. [35:38.000 --> 35:42.640] So why does it cost so many problems? Financial consultant, Karen Lee, are you good to see you too? [35:42.640 --> 35:46.480] I knew you had to do. Okay, so folks, always want to say, you know what? I'm going to get [35:46.480 --> 35:50.800] myself in shape, right? And then I'm also going to get financially in shape as well as get rid of [35:50.800 --> 35:56.320] debt, save more money. So let's help us tackle getting rid of debt first. That's the toughest. [35:56.320 --> 36:00.960] It is. It is tough. And so the first thing I want to talk about is you got the little bit of debt [36:00.960 --> 36:05.200] where you just fell a little too much over the holidays or you've got the massive debt from [36:05.200 --> 36:10.160] three really tough economic years. So let's first tackle the small amount of debt. Okay. So what [36:10.160 --> 36:15.200] we want you to do with that is first go back to the budget and figure out how much you actually [36:15.200 --> 36:19.920] can pay towards debt monthly. The minimum amount that you can pay. And then I'd like to see [36:19.920 --> 36:24.480] you set it up as an automatic payment from your online banking right to the credit. That way, [36:24.480 --> 36:29.280] no excuses, you know, over spending can't write out the check that it off. That's right. If we wait [36:29.280 --> 36:34.160] to the end of the month, there's usually nothing left. So if you can automate it and during that [36:34.160 --> 36:38.720] time, of course, freeze your credit, do the math figure out how many months it's going to take. [36:38.720 --> 36:42.480] Plan a little reward for yourself at the end and hopefully you'll clear. When you say freeze your [36:42.480 --> 36:46.240] credit, you're just talking about self-discipline. So you're actually like, okay, now if you don't [36:46.240 --> 36:50.720] have self-discipline and list a friend to take your cards away from you, but yes, don't add anything [36:50.720 --> 36:55.600] more to that. Okay. But now let's talk about big stuff. I'm probably more Americans because it has [36:55.600 --> 37:00.000] it's been three really. Yeah, a lot of people have been out of work, so they have borrowed borrowed. [37:00.000 --> 37:04.640] They've overspent just to survive. So yeah, massive debt. What I'm going to say to those people is just [37:04.640 --> 37:10.240] like if you've got massive amounts of weight to lose, let's make a realistic goal. If this happened [37:10.240 --> 37:14.640] over a period of years, don't think you're going to pay it off in six months. So the first thing we [37:14.640 --> 37:19.760] want to do is again, go back to the math figure out how much monthly you can free up to put [37:19.760 --> 37:23.760] towards debt and then figure out how long it's going to take you, make the goal realistic and if it's [37:23.760 --> 37:27.600] going to be a couple of years. Yeah, because that's a hard part isn't that folks you're trying to [37:27.600 --> 37:31.760] figure out how do I calculate, how do I do that? So that's another point I want to say for people [37:31.760 --> 37:37.600] that really have lots of cards, lots of high interest rates, get some help, seek a consumer [37:37.600 --> 37:42.640] credit council type firm, often they can negotiate with the credit card companies for lower interest [37:42.640 --> 37:47.360] rates for you, as long as you're partnering with someone like that. Okay. And now you want to save [37:47.360 --> 37:52.240] money. Right. And you want to do this simultaneously if they would be nice if you could. Okay. [37:52.240 --> 37:56.640] So, say you've tackled the debt part there. Maybe you're not doing it simultaneously. How do you say? [37:56.640 --> 38:00.240] Well, let's talk about first. There's two things people tend to want to say for one, [38:00.240 --> 38:05.040] especially now is just having that emergency money for that stuff that just comes up. So let's talk [38:05.040 --> 38:11.680] about short term savings first. Again, automate it. If you wait till you've paid your other bills, [38:11.680 --> 38:16.880] there will not be anything left at the end of the month. So many companies will allow you to [38:16.880 --> 38:22.000] set up from your paycheck, just like for your 401k, an automatic draft into a credit union or a [38:22.000 --> 38:28.720] money market, whether it's $5, $10, $50 each check, get it started and you can't touch it unless it's [38:28.720 --> 38:32.800] really an emergency. Try and come up with a percentage on that or just what you can afford. Really [38:32.800 --> 38:37.680] what you can afford initially, you could also start with the goal in mind and then work back [38:37.680 --> 38:42.480] monthly as to what you need to reach that goal. Okay. Second one is that was longer term savings [38:42.480 --> 38:47.040] and we've talked about this before, but of course the easiest way to save long term for retirement [38:47.040 --> 38:52.560] is if your company has a 401k. That comes out pre-tags before that check even hits your bank [38:52.560 --> 38:57.760] and that is a good thing. So that's a little tax break too. If you're not investing in your company's [38:57.760 --> 39:03.440] 401k, start. If you're already investing but you're not maxing out, raise that percentage [39:03.440 --> 39:08.720] and keep raising it until you get to that maximum. Okay. Another fun idea is to buy a stock or [39:08.720 --> 39:12.880] a cup of shares a stock and a company that pays dividends and set up what's called a dividend [39:12.880 --> 39:17.920] reinvestment plan as that dividend comes in don't take the cash, let it buy more stock and then [39:17.920 --> 39:22.800] set it aside and forget about it. Oh my goodness. 15, 20 years later, it's just a big surprise. [39:22.800 --> 39:28.000] Oh, you're making a sound so easy. It is easy and for those who are already maxing out the 401k [39:28.000 --> 39:33.280] but they still want to save and you know I love those people. Yes. Open up a Roth IRA if you're [39:33.280 --> 39:37.200] eligible. If you're looking for everyone eligible now, then they change the rules on that. No, [39:37.200 --> 39:44.400] there's converting a regular to a Roth as where they change. The other thing is 529s for college savings [39:44.400 --> 39:49.280] but either way, automate it. You've got to set it up that it's an automatic draft coming out [39:49.280 --> 39:52.160] and you don't miss it and you don't touch it. And you don't think it through and go, [39:52.160 --> 39:57.520] maybe this is what I should do. So hopefully 2012 things are looking up and it'll be a year [39:57.520 --> 40:02.160] that people make those financial goals happen. All right. All about being financially fit too. Yes, [40:02.160 --> 40:06.400] Karen Lee. That's what you're all about. Thanks so much. Appreciate it. Happy new year. Happy new year to you. [40:08.000 --> 40:12.240] All right. Earlier, I asked you to tell me about your new year's day kind of traditions, [40:12.240 --> 40:15.920] superstitions. You have any superstitions that things you have to eat or have to do. I make [40:15.920 --> 40:20.160] jambalaya every new year's day. Okay. That's good. Well, a lot of folks have responded. [40:20.160 --> 40:23.520] And as people do, you know, black eyepiece. I did that today. I brought that into work too. Okay. [40:23.520 --> 40:28.800] So Angela on Facebook writing this, saying my mother's family believes that eating cabbage, [40:28.800 --> 40:33.120] turn-ups, color greens, and black eyepiece on New Year's Day will bring you good luck for the [40:33.120 --> 40:38.560] rest of the year. And what about your new year's rituals and superstitions, perhaps? I want to hear [40:38.560 --> 40:44.720] from you. Either send me the Twitter or in Facebook and we'll share more of your comments coming up. [40:48.560 --> 40:53.120] I was just curious, I guess. So one on ancestry.com, typed in some names and I popped this [40:53.120 --> 40:59.440] little leaf. I clicked on it and saw all these documents. I even found out that my great, great [40:59.440 --> 41:05.200] grandparents lived next door to the right brothers. I mean, have we got to mention that? [42:36.480 --> 42:39.360] Bill Shafer co-inventor of the splash wash did. [42:39.360 --> 42:42.240] He came up with the idea while watching his children play. [42:42.240 --> 42:46.960] And vent help submitted his idea to WAMO, maker of toys like the Frisbee and Hulu. [42:46.960 --> 42:51.600] To find out how invent help can help you try to submit your idea to companies, call for free [42:51.600 --> 42:55.120] information. Bill Shafer made a financial gain with his invention. [42:55.120 --> 42:58.880] Bill's experience is not typical and most inventions are not successful. [42:58.880 --> 43:02.880] For your free inventors information, call 1-800-490-4633. [43:05.200 --> 43:10.560] All right, we're following this breaking story. This involving the shooting of a U.S. Forest Service [43:10.560 --> 43:15.280] Ranger at Mount Rainier National Park in Washington State. We want to get more information about [43:15.280 --> 43:18.400] this investigation and the circumstances leading to this shooting. [43:18.400 --> 43:23.920] Lee Taylor is a spokesperson with us now. So, Lee, tell me what you can about this. [43:23.920 --> 43:31.680] Well, what I can say is that a National Park Service Ranger, Margaret Anderson, 34 years old, [43:31.680 --> 43:39.920] was shot today by a gunman in the park. It began as just a normal traffic stop when he failed to pull [43:39.920 --> 43:47.840] over another Ranger radio to head and Margaret Anderson set up a blockade with her patrol vehicle [43:47.840 --> 43:54.880] to intercept him. And when he arrived at that spot, he got out and shot, shatily shot her. [43:55.680 --> 44:03.360] He then fled into the woods. So, the situation that we have now is a gunman who is in the park [44:03.360 --> 44:08.400] somewhere, has not yet been apprehended. And it's coming. This gunman is on foot when you say [44:08.400 --> 44:14.800] flood into the woods. That's correct. He's on foot. He left his car behind. And is on foot [44:14.800 --> 44:21.120] somewhere in the park. Okay. And so, by way of checking the registration of the car, etc, [44:21.840 --> 44:26.480] does that any way match up with the identity of who you believe is suspect is? [44:26.480 --> 44:32.800] Well, we have no way of know that because we don't know if he is the registered owner of the vehicle. [44:32.800 --> 44:36.720] We have information about the owner of the vehicle, but we're not sure if it's the same [44:36.720 --> 44:41.920] person or not. We don't have a description of the person. Since there was nobody else at the scene [44:41.920 --> 44:50.160] when he stopped and shot the park Ranger. And is the park closed? What about other people, members [44:50.160 --> 44:56.160] of the public who may be in that park? The park is closed. And we have been evacuating visitors, [44:56.160 --> 45:00.800] but we do still have people in the park. There are people who are out of snowshoeing or skiing, [45:00.800 --> 45:05.040] who are still, you know, coming back in from their afternoon. And we also have [45:05.680 --> 45:11.200] about 85 park visitors who are in our main park visitor center. And we're holding them there [45:11.200 --> 45:18.080] until we believe that it's safe for them to drive out of the park. So typically I'm a day like this, [45:18.080 --> 45:23.440] you do have a lot of snow showers and skiers there. Yeah, we do. It's a nice day. It's a holiday [45:23.440 --> 45:26.880] weekend. And we would typically have hundreds of people in the park who would be out [45:26.880 --> 45:31.280] enjoying the beautiful scenery and the weather. And what about searchers in the air by helicopter? [45:31.280 --> 45:36.640] What are the weather conditions there for that? The weather conditions are good, but it's three hours. [45:36.640 --> 45:42.960] It's just a few hours now until darkness. So, you know, the end of daylight will be the [45:42.960 --> 45:47.840] limiting factor in terms of being able to. And continue searching. And what more might you be [45:47.840 --> 45:55.920] able to tell me about Margaret Anderson 34 years old who was shot and killed? She's a dedicated [45:55.920 --> 46:02.080] public servant. Very committed to visitors to the park and to helping to protect park resources. [46:02.080 --> 46:09.040] Her husband is also a ranger at Mount Rainier. And they have two small children of four [46:09.040 --> 46:14.640] year old in a one year old. So it's a horrible tragedy. It's a terrible loss of life. Of somebody [46:14.640 --> 46:20.240] who had dedicated herself to serving the public. Terribly sad. Our hearts go out to her and her [46:20.240 --> 46:25.680] family and an entire national park service family. Thanks so much, Lee Taylor for your time. [46:26.880 --> 46:32.000] All right, other stories, we continue to check cross country now. Some Chicago area pizza [46:32.000 --> 46:37.840] shops are refusing to deliver to customers ordering by cell phone. That's because of a recent [46:37.840 --> 46:43.360] rash of robberies. Police say the robbers are using their cell phones to target pizza delivery [46:43.360 --> 46:48.160] drivers. The restaurants could see their bottom line suffer since many people don't have [46:48.160 --> 46:54.240] landline phones anymore. And a town in western Pennsylvania is cracking down on sledding in two local [46:54.240 --> 47:00.800] parks. Beaver burrow officials are banning it all together in one park following an accident. [47:00.800 --> 47:06.560] In another park, it is still okay to sled, but it is restricted to just residents, which means [47:06.560 --> 47:12.000] their family and friends cannot take part in that kind of fun if they don't live there. Children [47:12.000 --> 47:19.920] under 12 must also wear helmets. On the San Francisco now, Bananasam has been safely returned [47:19.920 --> 47:26.240] to the city Zoo. Police say a passerby spotted the 17 year old squirrel monkey peeking out [47:26.240 --> 47:32.880] through some bushes at a park yesterday. One day after it was allegedly stolen, the man was [47:32.880 --> 47:39.280] able to coax the primate into a backpack apparently. Zoo workers say Bananasam is doing just fine. [47:41.120 --> 47:46.080] He looks pretty good. He was thirsty. He was hungry, trembling a little bit, but we did get [47:46.080 --> 47:51.440] do a quick physical exam on him and he looks pretty good. Is it easy to coax a monkey into a backpack? [47:51.440 --> 47:57.280] I would venture to say that it is not. A monkey would be placed into a backpack forcibly. [47:58.480 --> 48:03.120] Oh my goodness. Zoo officials are still trying to figure out how Bananasam was stolen. [48:03.120 --> 48:08.320] And why? That's a strange mystery, isn't it? All right, we're glad that Bananasam is back. [48:08.320 --> 48:12.880] All right, the newsroom continues straight ahead. Natalie Allen in for Don Lemon Happy New Year. [48:12.880 --> 48:17.280] Happy New Year to you. We're also happy about Bananasam. Stay out. We're on the big [48:17.280 --> 48:21.280] stories coming up. You've been following today to Iowa caucuses plenty of coverage, including [48:21.280 --> 48:27.600] reports from the state plus our Sunday analysis with Wilcane and LD Granderson and more fires [48:27.600 --> 48:33.120] overnight in Los Angeles to tell you about seven suspected arson fires were reported in the L.A. U.S. markets will be closed Monday for the new year's holiday, [52:39.840 --> 52:45.200] but when they reopen Tuesday, Wall Street kicks off 2012 with a host of economic news. [52:45.200 --> 52:49.760] Coming up, key reports on construction spending, car and truck sales. We could actually see [52:49.760 --> 52:54.640] some strength there and factory orders. All leading up to the critical December jobs report that [52:54.640 --> 52:59.760] comes Friday morning. Investors, of course, eerily anticipating that number and hoping [52:59.760 --> 53:05.120] for an upside surprise. We'll track it all on CNN money. All right, thanks so much, Poppy. [53:05.120 --> 53:08.960] All right, the ball dropping in Times Square. It's America's New Year's tradition, [53:08.960 --> 53:13.360] but you probably have some new years, rituals and superstitions of your own. [53:13.360 --> 53:17.200] Maybe some of which have been passed down through the family. I asked you to send them to me [53:17.200 --> 53:21.840] and you did the Twitter and Facebook. So, Melissa writes, it's supposed to be good luck for [53:21.840 --> 53:26.480] a man to be the first to walk through the door in your house on New Year's Day. [53:26.480 --> 53:30.800] And here's another New Year's Day superstition. Black eyed peas are supposed to be lucky. [53:30.800 --> 53:34.240] If you put a few dry ones in your purse with that part, I didn't do today. [53:34.240 --> 53:39.280] And a melody writes, it's supposed to be bad luck to wash clothes on New Year's Day. [53:39.280 --> 53:43.200] It is said to lead to a death in your family during the year. [53:43.200 --> 53:47.440] Funny Schneider with us now. Also, you have any traditions on it. Those are the right ones. [53:47.440 --> 53:50.240] I'm going to make sure to not do laundry today. It's going to be a real bird. [53:50.240 --> 53:53.520] I know for any send a message on my husband today too. When I heard about that, when I was like, [53:53.520 --> 53:58.320] don't do any laundry today, I can wait no rush on that. I'm here about eating black eyed peas. [53:58.320 --> 54:02.480] I didn't know about putting dry ones in your purse. That's a usual. I'm going to go grab some. [54:02.480 --> 54:06.400] Yeah, me too. Well, you know, we are looking at an grocery fridge because some snow [54:06.400 --> 54:10.320] that's going to be troublesome for travelers. And a lot of people are getting back to it [54:10.320 --> 54:14.400] from a long week off or maybe you went somewhere for four New Year's Eve. And now you're [54:14.400 --> 54:18.880] heading home. We'll travel conditions across parts of Michigan are going to be downright dangerous. [54:18.880 --> 54:22.800] That's right. We have blizzard warnings in effect that go straight until tomorrow night. [54:22.800 --> 54:26.480] You're looking at a radar picture of heavy snow working its way across the Great Lakes. [54:26.480 --> 54:32.640] The numbers are incredible because you can see 12 inches plus across parts of Michigan. [54:32.640 --> 54:35.760] That includes the Traverse City area. That's where the blizzard warning is. And it's right [54:35.760 --> 54:38.560] in the northern part of Michigan. That's where we're going to see some of those lake [54:38.560 --> 54:42.800] effects. No bands really be fierce. And along with the heavy snow, of course, comes the [54:42.800 --> 54:46.720] gusty winds when you're talking about lake effects. No maker. And what that means is you'll have [54:46.720 --> 54:51.600] blowing and drifting snow. That will create snow drips that could be even higher than the highest [54:51.600 --> 54:55.680] snowfall total accumulation. So travel in northern Michigan is just dangerous. If you [54:55.680 --> 54:59.280] can avoid it, I would recommend it. Notice the lake effects. No those stretching all the way [54:59.280 --> 55:04.240] into upstate New York. These advisorys for winds show that we are looking at fierce winds again [55:04.240 --> 55:07.760] that will pile the snow that's falling. So even though the accumulation might be a burst of [55:07.760 --> 55:12.960] sudden snow in some areas and dry in others, which is so a random way it is for the localization [55:12.960 --> 55:17.440] of lake effects. No, we are going to see those snow pile up a little bit more. This is a forecast [55:17.440 --> 55:21.040] radar picture. Not actual radar. I just want to show you over the next 48 hours. The weather [55:21.040 --> 55:24.960] does improve. We get a little bit better conditions. But the immediate threat of course is for [55:24.960 --> 55:29.760] danger for Michigan. And even into parts of upstate New York where we have the advisories as well. [55:29.760 --> 55:33.360] The heaviest snow on that little dot. You can see that pink dot in northern Michigan. That's [55:33.360 --> 55:38.400] where we are looking at a foot of snow plus. Again, it will be even more fierce as we go through [55:38.400 --> 55:42.240] the day when we get some more wind blowing in. And the reason that we're getting so much snow [55:42.240 --> 55:46.480] with this lake effects. No machine is a couple different factors. We have very cold air coming [55:46.480 --> 55:50.640] over warmer waters of the Great Lakes. And the water temperatures are still pretty warm. It's [55:50.640 --> 55:54.080] in the forties over the lakes. It may not seem very warm, but it's warmer than the land. [55:54.080 --> 55:59.120] So the really the cold air gathers that moisture, that warm moist air, right above the Great [55:59.120 --> 56:03.760] Lakes. And as soon as it rushes back over land, the land is colder. And it just dumps it heavy [56:03.760 --> 56:08.160] and hard across this region. So our Mount for today shows that lake effects snow machine. Otherwise, [56:08.160 --> 56:12.880] the rest of the US is looking good. It's been a soggy week. And weekend for places like Portland, [56:12.880 --> 56:16.240] Oregon. Unfortunately, we have more rain in your forecast from Monday. And some scattered [56:16.240 --> 56:21.760] showers popping up into Florida across a good portion of the region of the state there. But [56:21.760 --> 56:25.600] notice the temperature contrast. There is a cold front that's pushed through. It doesn't quite [56:25.600 --> 56:29.840] make it all the way through South Florida. So high tomorrow in Miami will still be near 80, [56:29.840 --> 56:34.000] whereas Tampa, you're only going to hit 64. So Japan's where you are in terms of getting that [56:34.000 --> 56:39.600] really warm weather. 22, that's it for Minneapolis. And you can see 23 in Chicago. Atlantis only at [56:39.600 --> 56:44.400] 46. And I can tell you, and the southeast our numbers are going down. We had highs today in the [56:44.400 --> 56:48.000] sixties. It was just glorious. We got things boiled. Things are changing for a drink. A low [56:48.000 --> 56:52.240] temperature drop down to the margins of the teens and 20s in some parts of Georgia. Oh, [56:52.240 --> 56:56.480] I'm going to. It's all changing. Winter's here. It's January 2012 and it's cold up there. [56:56.480 --> 57:01.680] Yeah, 2011 was an incredible year in weather 2012 promises to be. Well, you know, we [57:01.680 --> 57:05.680] definitely had an extreme weather year in 2011. It doesn't necessarily mean we're going to see [57:05.680 --> 57:09.680] another one in 2012. But it's very important to be prepared. Yeah. And right now our biggest threat [57:09.680 --> 57:14.640] is lake effects, no and cold cold air. All the more apropos for your upcoming book. Oh, [57:14.640 --> 57:17.680] streaming weather and how to deal with. So look for funny sniders. Thank you. [57:17.680 --> 57:22.240] I got in 2012. One less than a month away. Yes. Happy new year.
