Gavin Newsom for Governor, [00:07.040 --> 00:10.680] courage for a change. [00:10.680 --> 00:19.480] On the CBS News this Wednesday, as more rescues take place, more bodies have been recovered [00:19.480 --> 00:24.480] following terrible flooding in Texas. What forced the first ladies' planes to make an [00:24.480 --> 00:30.160] emergency landing? And I, on America, our undercover cameras are there as a priest is [00:30.160 --> 00:36.280] confronted by two men who say he sexually abused them as children. But first, the headlines [00:36.280 --> 00:39.600] in 60 Seconds. [00:39.600 --> 00:43.560] So if you're flooding in Texas, forcing the governor to issue disaster declarations against [00:43.560 --> 00:49.440] the home of Saudi Arabia, I want to find out what happened. [00:49.440 --> 00:53.520] The Secret Service says it is now reviewing an incident in which an agent blocked CBS News [00:53.520 --> 00:59.640] correspondent, Errol Barnett, from trying to question Jared Kushner. [00:59.640 --> 01:04.680] Eighteen people are dead and dozens hurt after a gunman opened fire at a vocational college [01:04.680 --> 01:05.680] in Crimea. [01:05.680 --> 01:08.120] Police say it is not terror-related. [01:08.120 --> 01:12.640] The top U.S. burger chains were graded on their antibiotic policies in a new report. [01:12.640 --> 01:17.880] Only two chains received an A grade. The other 23 got a D minus or an F. [01:17.880 --> 01:19.880] I'm gonna stick to Shake Shack. [01:19.880 --> 01:27.880] In Canada, the first legal purchase of marijuana has officially been made. [01:27.880 --> 01:34.640] I'm so excited. You want to be able to tell your kids that you were there for this moment. [01:34.640 --> 01:38.320] Good evening. I'm Jeff Glor, and this is our western edition. We are gonna begin tonight [01:38.320 --> 01:42.800] in Texas, which has been hit by devastating flooding. There have been high water rescues [01:42.800 --> 01:47.080] and evacuations. At least two people have been killed. And at least 12 million people [01:47.080 --> 01:53.640] live in areas impacted by this and what has been the region's wettest fall season on record. [01:53.640 --> 01:58.200] Some towns have gotten nearly a foot of rain this week. The crush of water washed away [01:58.200 --> 02:03.520] one bridge. Mark Strassman is in the flood zone. [02:03.520 --> 02:09.880] Central Texas has so much floodwater with no place to go. The Lano River still roaring [02:09.880 --> 02:16.560] and still causing havoc to communities. At least two deaths have been blamed on the floodwaters. [02:16.560 --> 02:22.360] We came across a rescue team who found two men trapped in their submerged SUV, nose down [02:22.360 --> 02:28.560] in a street that had washed away, one of dozens of rescues over the last couple of days. Most [02:28.560 --> 02:34.120] of this excess water has flowed into bloated Lake Travis, engineered to relieve the water [02:34.120 --> 02:37.920] pressure. How fast did the water come up? I would say it probably came up five or six [02:37.920 --> 02:43.680] feet in a matter of 15 minutes. On Tuesday morning, Scott Turner's family of four discovered [02:43.680 --> 02:49.520] the Lano River had surged a half mile into their house, ruining almost everything they [02:49.520 --> 02:53.440] own. When the water came up in the house and we got out, it was probably almost up to our [02:53.440 --> 02:59.560] past our ankles. Time to go. Time to go. We got the dogs out and that was it. [02:59.560 --> 03:04.600] The Turners had no flood insurance, a costly reality for other families here. From our [03:04.600 --> 03:11.160] drone camera, you can get a sense of the power and the scale of the overflowing Lano River. [03:11.160 --> 03:17.320] And the worst may be yet to come, Jeff. There's more rain in the forecast through Saturday. [03:17.320 --> 03:22.400] Wow, take a look at that. Mark Strassman, thank you. Turkish crime scene investigators [03:22.400 --> 03:27.040] today searched the home of a Saudi official in Istanbul, 15 days after the disappearance [03:27.040 --> 03:32.440] of Washington Post contributor Jamal Khashoggi. Turkish officials claim the Saudis executed [03:32.440 --> 03:38.040] Khashoggi. President Trump is urging patients in the investigation. Holly Williams reports [03:38.040 --> 03:42.680] from Istanbul. I want to find out what happened, where [03:42.680 --> 03:47.520] is the fault, and we will probably know that by the end of the week. Today, President Trump [03:47.520 --> 03:53.480] denied giving cover to Saudi Arabia in the disappearance of Jamal Khashoggi, once again [03:53.480 --> 03:59.480] playing up the lucrative economic relationship. When I went there, they committed to purchase [03:59.480 --> 04:05.920] $450 billion worth of things and $110 billion worth of military. [04:05.920 --> 04:11.400] But it was only today, more than two weeks after Khashoggi disappeared, that Saudi Arabia [04:11.400 --> 04:17.280] finally gave Turkish forensics investigators access to the Saudi consul general's residence [04:17.280 --> 04:24.080] in Istanbul. Khashoggi visited the Saudi consulate on October 2nd and then went missing. Turkish [04:24.080 --> 04:29.760] officials have told journalists they believe he was killed inside the consulate. Unverified [04:29.760 --> 04:35.000] reports have suggested that Khashoggi's body may have been disposed of at the consul general's [04:35.000 --> 04:42.640] residence. They have an audio recording from inside the consulate of Khashoggi being killed. [04:42.640 --> 04:49.640] Some reports, which we cannot verify, include grisly details of him being dismembered. President [04:49.640 --> 04:57.040] Trump confirmed today that the US has asked to hear it. [04:57.040 --> 05:01.800] The New York Times reported that one of the suspects is a forensics doctor, and another [05:01.800 --> 05:08.600] has links to Saudi Arabia's Crown Prince Mohammed bin Salman. But the Crown Prince and Secretary [05:08.600 --> 05:14.080] of State Mike Pompeo were all smiles when they met yesterday. Pompeo said today that [05:14.080 --> 05:21.680] Saudi leaders had given him their word. They'll fully investigate Khashoggi's disappearance. [05:21.680 --> 05:27.140] An editorial in the Washington Post, the paper for which Jamal Khashoggi wrote, accused the [05:27.140 --> 05:32.400] Trump administration of a, quote, diplomatic cleanup operation. Jeff. [05:32.400 --> 05:36.720] All right, Holly Williams, thank you, my name is Coach Noro Donald, former vice president [05:36.720 --> 05:38.880] in terms of leaders. [05:38.880 --> 05:45.360] I just don't know why this administration seems to feel the need to coddle autocrats [05:45.360 --> 05:48.120] and dictators. I don't understand it. [05:48.120 --> 05:51.160] Why do you think President Trump does that? [05:51.160 --> 05:58.520] I don't want to speculate on my worst fears, but either he doesn't know what he's doing [05:58.520 --> 06:06.080] or he has an absolutely convoluted notion of what allows America to lead the world. [06:06.080 --> 06:10.120] You can see more of Noro's interview with the former vice president tomorrow on CBS [06:10.120 --> 06:15.200] This Morning. There was a scare in the air today for the first lady. Chip Reid has that [06:15.200 --> 06:16.800] story. [06:16.800 --> 06:23.000] First Lady Melania Trump boarded a Boeing 757 this morning for a quick trip to Philadelphia. [06:23.000 --> 06:27.640] About 10 minutes after takeoff, the traveling press watched as secret service agents suddenly [06:27.640 --> 06:32.640] headed toward the front of the plane, then saw a thin haze of smoke and smelled something [06:32.640 --> 06:37.880] burning. The plane quickly returned to joint base Andrews. The first lady spoke to President [06:37.880 --> 06:38.880] Trump by phone. [06:38.880 --> 06:42.480] She got in another plane. I said, I hope this plane's better than the first one. [06:42.480 --> 06:47.400] The problem, the White House says, was a minor mechanical issue. Preliminary reports indicate [06:47.400 --> 06:53.680] a piece of communications equipment overheated. There are four 757s kept at Andrews. The [06:53.680 --> 06:59.720] Air Force says President Trump has never flown on this plane, but he has used other 757s [06:59.720 --> 07:04.240] when airports can't handle the 747 jumbo jet. [07:04.240 --> 07:06.480] How reliable are these planes? [07:06.480 --> 07:08.480] These are very reliable airplanes. [07:08.480 --> 07:12.440] Mark Rosencour is the former head of the White House military office. [07:12.440 --> 07:20.480] I don't think you can find a more reliable aircraft, a safer aircraft, a more well-trained [07:20.480 --> 07:21.480] crew. [07:21.480 --> 07:24.080] I'm sorry for a little delay. [07:24.080 --> 07:29.560] After eventually making it to Philadelphia for a conference on newborns exposed to opioids, [07:29.560 --> 07:31.720] Mrs. Trump returned. [07:31.720 --> 07:37.120] The 757s and more than half a dozen other smaller jets are available to dozens of senior [07:37.120 --> 07:42.000] government officials. But because a single flight can cost tens of thousands of dollars [07:42.000 --> 07:46.680] or more, the White House says requests for those planes are carefully reviewed. [07:46.680 --> 07:47.680] Jeff? [07:47.680 --> 07:52.960] Chip Reid, thank you. Today, state lawmakers in Pennsylvania debated a key recommendation [07:52.960 --> 07:58.200] of the grand jury that revealed decades of sexual abuse of children by Catholic priests. [07:58.200 --> 08:03.200] It would open a two-year window for anyone now over 30 to sue over abuse suffered as [08:03.200 --> 08:04.800] a child. [08:04.800 --> 08:07.080] That includes the two men you're about to meet. [08:07.080 --> 08:11.760] More undercover cameras captured their extraordinary confrontation with the priest they say abused [08:11.760 --> 08:17.840] them as children. The two survivors asked us to record it to help other victims of abuse. [08:17.840 --> 08:25.320] Nikki Batiste has the story and the video in tonight's Eye on America. [08:25.320 --> 08:26.800] I don't have happy memories here. [08:26.800 --> 08:27.800] Neither do I. [08:27.800 --> 08:32.920] I mean, when I think of grade school, I think of this. I think of the abuse. [08:32.920 --> 08:37.000] This is the first time shawls get together in nearly 30 years. [08:37.000 --> 08:42.360] You drive by something that most people just drive by, we see it, and you have these feelings [08:42.360 --> 08:44.760] of being 12 years old again. [08:44.760 --> 08:49.520] They've come to sit down face to face with father George Koharchik, their former teacher [08:49.520 --> 08:53.120] who they say molested them in a Catholic grade school. [08:53.120 --> 08:56.520] Dockarty says the abuse began at age 10. [08:56.520 --> 09:01.560] At what point did you start to think George was doing something wrong? [09:01.560 --> 09:07.960] The second or third time you're on his lap in his car and he accidentally brushes his [09:07.960 --> 09:13.560] thumb and hand against your penis, you start to think, yeah, this is different. [09:13.560 --> 09:18.880] So then I was in sixth grade and that's when the actual physical abuse began. [09:18.880 --> 09:21.720] We were kids. That was our normal. [09:21.720 --> 09:28.680] But they never talked about the abuse and eventually went their separate ways until 2012, when Koharchik [09:28.680 --> 09:34.520] made front page headlines. He later admitted to abusing at least five children. [09:34.520 --> 09:42.920] I picked up the phone a million times to call, call, call George Koharchik, you know, but [09:42.920 --> 09:44.760] I never did. [09:44.760 --> 09:45.760] George. [09:45.760 --> 09:46.760] Until now. [09:46.760 --> 09:52.880] This is Sean Dockarty calling. I think it would be beneficial to talk to. [09:52.880 --> 09:58.460] Dockarty finally asked Koharchik to meet. The key, Dockarty wanted the meeting recorded. [09:58.460 --> 10:03.200] They hope a conversation with their abuser shown publicly will give other victims the [10:03.200 --> 10:06.800] courage to come forward as well. [10:06.800 --> 10:10.920] Before the meeting, CBS News set up hidden cameras. [10:10.920 --> 10:13.520] What's up George? How are you doing? How's it going? [10:13.520 --> 10:14.520] How you doing? [10:14.520 --> 10:15.520] I don't know. [10:15.520 --> 10:16.520] Brian's going to ready to shake yet. [10:16.520 --> 10:17.520] All right. [10:17.520 --> 10:18.520] How's it going? [10:18.520 --> 10:22.520] So we'll try to make this as least awkward as possible, I guess. [10:22.520 --> 10:35.520] I mean, you're not still active, are you? [10:35.520 --> 10:44.520] You know, what was it about us? Is it more convenience because we live close to the school? [10:44.520 --> 10:50.520] Or was there something else about Sean and I that made us a target? [10:50.520 --> 10:54.680] So familiarity, maybe. [10:54.680 --> 11:01.080] I'm going to tell you this. I'm angry with what you did, right? I'm angry. But I have [11:01.080 --> 11:08.680] forgiven you a long, long, long time ago for this. The part that I cannot forgive is the [11:08.680 --> 11:15.600] cover. I am that crushed. We were taught to, oh, there's a God. I mean, I tried to kill [11:15.600 --> 11:19.840] myself over this when I was 24, legit. [11:19.840 --> 11:24.080] When you first started having those feelings, did you feel like, should I talk to someone [11:24.080 --> 11:29.000] or, I mean, I could have saved 10 of us? [11:29.000 --> 11:36.000] If there is something that you see as a, as we're going to call the bishop up and say, [11:36.000 --> 11:50.760] um, anything about it, because that's good. Thank you. Is this something that you would [11:50.760 --> 11:53.760] have confessed, any confessional? [11:53.760 --> 11:59.360] Do you think that's forgiven you? [11:59.360 --> 12:09.360] Yeah, from what I understand, God's forgiveness to be. Maybe with God. I can't. I have to [12:09.360 --> 12:12.360] carry this rest of my life. [12:12.360 --> 12:25.360] As buried emotions surface, needed a moment to himself. [12:25.360 --> 12:35.360] I came to tell you, I don't want to think about you anymore. I can't forgive you. [12:35.360 --> 12:41.120] Dockardy and Sabo ended the meeting nearly 90 minutes later. We gave co-heart chick another [12:41.120 --> 12:47.320] opportunity to speak after he declined our request for an interview. [12:47.320 --> 12:55.320] Nikki Batiste with CBS News. Why did you come to meet with Sean and Brian? Nothing? Nothing [12:55.320 --> 12:58.720] you want to say to your victims? [12:58.720 --> 13:02.440] I just successfully met with the guy that abused me and got to say everything that I [13:02.440 --> 13:08.480] wanted to say to him. He got it off my chest and I'm at peace right now. [13:08.480 --> 13:13.480] I made sure I told him the pain you caused. I'm giving it back to you. And you said you [13:13.480 --> 13:16.480] understood. For whatever, I'm not going to tell him that. [13:16.480 --> 13:20.480] That's the way that other people could see, that other victims could hear. [13:20.480 --> 13:26.480] So they could see the other victims who were betrayed and who are vulnerable to see his [13:26.480 --> 13:38.480] vulnerability. And that's a long damn road. But you can, can regain your control over [13:38.480 --> 13:41.480] your own life. [13:41.480 --> 13:45.480] Dockardy and Sabo told us they were frustrated that George Goharczyk would not address whether [13:45.480 --> 13:51.480] or not he knew why he was moved from parish to parish seven times. Or Jeff, if the church [13:51.480 --> 13:53.480] knew about his abusive behavior. [13:53.480 --> 13:56.480] So Nikki, where is George Goharczyk now? [13:56.480 --> 14:00.480] He is living freely at home. He was removed from ministry, but he has never been charged [14:00.480 --> 14:03.480] because the statute of limitations has run out. [14:03.480 --> 14:08.480] Okay, Nikki Batiste with our I Am America report tonight. Nikki, thank you. [14:08.480 --> 14:13.480] Still ahead here tonight on the CBS Evening News, why most burger chains flunked a test [14:13.480 --> 14:15.480] by consumer groups. [14:43.480 --> 14:48.480] Strong chemo can put you at risk of serious infection. In a key study, New Lasta reduced [14:48.480 --> 14:54.480] the risk of infection from 17% to 1%, a 94% decrease. New Lasta on Pro is designed to [14:54.480 --> 14:58.480] deliver New Lasta the day after chemo and is used by most patients today. [14:58.480 --> 15:03.480] New Lasta is for certain cancer patients receiving strong chemotherapy. Do not take New Lasta [15:03.480 --> 15:07.480] if you're allergic to it or nupigin, filgrastum. An incomplete dose could increase infection [15:07.480 --> 15:12.480] risk. Ruptured spleen, sometimes fatal as well as serious lung problems, allergic reactions, [15:12.480 --> 15:16.480] kidney injuries, and capillary leak syndrome have occurred. Report abdominal or shoulder [15:16.480 --> 15:20.480] tipped pain, trouble breathing, or allergic reactions to your doctor right away. In patients [15:20.480 --> 15:24.480] with sickle cell disorders, serious, sometimes fatal crises can occur. The most common side [15:24.480 --> 15:29.480] effect is bone and muscle ache. Ask your doctor about New Lasta on Pro. Pay no with [15:29.480 --> 15:31.480] copay card. [15:31.480 --> 15:36.480] We're in Memphis, Tennessee, a city with one of the highest increases of women-owned [15:36.480 --> 15:41.480] businesses in the U.S. It's really this constant juxtaposition when your mom and [15:41.480 --> 15:42.480] entrepreneur. [15:42.480 --> 15:46.480] With more businesses starting every day, how do they plan for their financial wellness? [15:46.480 --> 15:52.480] I am very mindful of the sacrifices that I make, so I have to manage my time wisely. [15:52.480 --> 16:20.480] President Trump presented the nation's highest military honor to a Vietnam veteran who risked [16:20.480 --> 16:25.480] his life to save fellow Marines. David Martin has his story. [16:25.480 --> 16:31.480] 80 years old and looking as though he could still lead Marines into combat, retired Sergeant [16:31.480 --> 16:38.480] Major John Canley received the Medal of Honor for his actions in the 1968 Battle of Hue. [16:38.480 --> 16:44.480] We'll get to the details in a moment. But here's what you really need to know about [16:44.480 --> 16:45.480] what happened. [16:45.480 --> 16:53.480] I can't think of any other way or reason of where I would rather die than with my Marines. [16:53.480 --> 16:57.480] Do you think you were going to die that day? That never crossed my mind. [16:57.480 --> 17:02.480] Canley was leading his Marines into the teeth of a North Vietnamese ambush on the southern [17:02.480 --> 17:04.480] outskirts of Hue. [17:04.480 --> 17:21.480] According to statements submitted by his men, what he did was repeatedly expose himself to [17:21.480 --> 17:24.480] enemy fire to pull wounded Marines to safety. [17:24.480 --> 17:27.480] They're still alive, right? So I'm going to try to get to them. [17:27.480 --> 17:34.480] I witnesses saw him pull at least 10 wounded Marines to safety, charge a machine gun that had them pinned down, [17:34.480 --> 17:40.480] and deliberately expose himself to fire in order to pinpoint enemy locations. [17:40.480 --> 17:45.480] But he hates being singled out from all the other Marines who did their time in Nam. [17:45.480 --> 17:53.480] When you look at what type of award or what type of recognition they received, it's nothing. [17:53.480 --> 17:57.480] That really offends me. [29:24.480 --> 29:28.480] KPI X5 Jovasquez is live outside the San Jose Police Department [29:28.480 --> 29:30.480] and he's got the latest, Jo.
