[00:06.800 --> 00:08.840] Frank Somerville, Julie Hanger, [00:08.840 --> 00:11.800] the 10 o'clock news on KTVU Channel 10. [00:11.800 --> 00:14.240] Complete Bay Area news coverage. [00:18.520 --> 00:21.240] Occupy Oakland and Oscar Grant supporters [00:21.240 --> 00:23.320] joined forces today to make a point, [00:23.320 --> 00:25.520] but will the alliance be lifelong [00:25.520 --> 00:28.400] or grow uneasy as 2012 unfolds? [00:28.400 --> 00:32.240] Cell phone video shows the ferocious flames [00:32.240 --> 00:35.600] they consumed to house just minutes into the new year. [00:35.600 --> 00:38.000] And a new year means new laws will tell you [00:38.000 --> 00:41.120] which ones could impact you the most. [00:41.120 --> 00:45.000] Complete Bay Area news coverage starts right now. [00:45.000 --> 00:49.160] This is KTVU Channel 2 News at five. [00:49.160 --> 00:50.200] Good evening, I'm Ken Pritchett, [00:50.200 --> 00:51.440] and tonight for Ken Wayne. [00:51.440 --> 00:52.920] And I'm Heather Holmes. [00:52.920 --> 00:55.600] A rally today to mark the third anniversary [00:55.600 --> 00:58.800] of the death of a man shot and killed by bar police. [00:58.800 --> 01:02.120] Today's demonstration honored passenger Oscar Grant, [01:02.120 --> 01:04.160] but it also was a rallying point [01:04.160 --> 01:06.160] for the waning Occupy movement. [01:06.160 --> 01:08.200] KTVU's Patti Lee was with marchers today [01:08.200 --> 01:10.920] who tell her they have plans for the new year. [01:10.920 --> 01:12.000] Patti? [01:12.000 --> 01:13.960] Well, more than 120 protesters marched [01:13.960 --> 01:16.800] for an hour and a half to get here from Frankogawa Plaza. [01:16.800 --> 01:19.760] Now, the vigil is ending just about now behind that kiosk. [01:19.760 --> 01:21.600] You can see folks are starting to leave [01:21.600 --> 01:23.120] and to get onto buses. [01:23.120 --> 01:25.520] Now, today's events were organized by both [01:25.520 --> 01:29.160] the Oscar Grant Committee and by Occupy Oakland. [01:30.120 --> 01:32.160] You're fist in the air if you don't care. [01:32.160 --> 01:33.680] Say bye to the people. [01:33.680 --> 01:35.800] Three years after he was shot and killed [01:35.800 --> 01:37.480] by a bar police officer, [01:37.480 --> 01:40.120] Oscar Grant has become a martyr of sorts [01:40.120 --> 01:42.120] for the Occupy Oakland movement. [01:42.120 --> 01:45.200] Where the Occupy and Oscar Grant issues overlap [01:45.200 --> 01:47.000] is around police brutality. [01:47.000 --> 01:48.600] We don't do it for Oscar. [01:48.600 --> 01:50.160] Say, I am Oscar Grant. [01:50.160 --> 01:51.120] I am. [01:51.120 --> 01:54.280] More than 120 protesters gathered to remember Grant [01:54.280 --> 01:56.480] at Frankogawa Plaza this afternoon [01:56.480 --> 01:59.160] before marching to the Fruitvale Barge Station [01:59.160 --> 02:02.120] where Grant, unarmed, hands behind his back, [02:02.120 --> 02:04.560] was killed New Year's Day 2009. [02:04.560 --> 02:07.200] It's real emotional for me because... [02:07.200 --> 02:09.560] Earlier, Oscar Grant's family gathered there [02:09.560 --> 02:11.840] for a private memorial service. [02:11.840 --> 02:15.520] It's a day for us to remember Oscar [02:15.520 --> 02:17.640] and to not forget what happened to him. [02:17.640 --> 02:19.600] Grant's mother says Oscar's legacy [02:19.600 --> 02:21.840] lies in ending police brutality [02:21.840 --> 02:24.800] and holding officers accountable for their actions. [02:24.800 --> 02:28.280] As for the legacy of Occupy Oakland, undetermined. [02:28.280 --> 02:30.960] I feel that there's a lot of different people [02:30.960 --> 02:33.920] rallying for different things in the Occupy movement. [02:33.920 --> 02:35.360] Grant's family says the groups [02:35.360 --> 02:37.320] may not be entirely in sync, [02:37.320 --> 02:39.720] but it is grateful for Occupy support. [02:39.720 --> 02:43.840] I want to keep Oscar's name and memory alive [02:43.840 --> 02:44.880] as long as we can. [02:44.880 --> 02:47.320] But others in the Grant camp are worried [02:47.320 --> 02:49.920] that if the Occupy Oakland movement embraces [02:49.920 --> 02:51.920] civil disobedience in the year ahead, [02:51.920 --> 02:54.440] it may dilute the message they share. [02:54.440 --> 02:56.160] They're not supposed to be doing things [02:56.160 --> 02:59.640] that's upsetting and disrupting everyone else. [03:00.640 --> 03:02.520] Oscar isn't about that. [03:03.400 --> 03:04.800] And if they want to use his name, [03:04.800 --> 03:06.960] then they need to be doing the correct thing. [03:06.960 --> 03:08.560] The 99%! [03:08.560 --> 03:10.120] Occupy Oakland organizers say [03:10.120 --> 03:12.640] they do have some New Year's resolutions, [03:12.640 --> 03:16.040] one of which is to occupy a building this month [03:16.040 --> 03:17.960] so they can stop being harassed [03:17.960 --> 03:19.720] at their outdoor encampment. [03:19.720 --> 03:20.840] Reporting live in Oakland, [03:20.840 --> 03:23.600] Patti Lee, KTVU, Channel 2 News. [03:23.600 --> 03:25.720] Violence marred New Year's in Oakland [03:25.720 --> 03:27.480] as police responded to gunfire [03:27.480 --> 03:30.200] on 14th and Franklin streets this morning. [03:30.200 --> 03:31.840] When police arrived around 2 a.m., [03:31.840 --> 03:34.960] they found a woman with a gunshot wound to her hand. [03:34.960 --> 03:36.640] As they investigated the shooting, [03:36.640 --> 03:38.520] a car drove up with another woman [03:38.520 --> 03:40.280] who had been shot in her leg. [03:40.280 --> 03:42.320] Police say the shootings are unrelated. [03:42.320 --> 03:44.320] Both women are being treated at the hospital. [03:44.320 --> 03:47.480] No arrests have been made in either shooting. [03:47.480 --> 03:51.040] Oakland police announced a $5,000 reward this afternoon [03:51.040 --> 03:52.480] for information on the shooter [03:52.480 --> 03:54.520] who fatally wounded a five-year-old boy [03:54.520 --> 03:57.040] on International Boulevard Friday night. [03:57.040 --> 04:00.840] Gabriel Martinez Jr. was outside his family's taco truck [04:00.840 --> 04:03.640] on 54th Avenue when a man ordered some food [04:03.640 --> 04:06.960] and then turned around and sprayed the truck with gunfire. [04:06.960 --> 04:09.360] The suspect then drove away in a silver Pontiac [04:09.360 --> 04:11.080] with a female passenger. [04:11.080 --> 04:13.480] Oakland's homicide total last year rose [04:13.480 --> 04:15.800] for the first time in four years. [04:15.800 --> 04:20.800] The city's official count for 2011 is 103 homicides. [04:20.840 --> 04:23.160] That's 11 more than in 2010. [04:23.160 --> 04:26.480] Five-year-old Gabriel Martinez was the third young child [04:26.480 --> 04:29.600] killed by gunfire in Oakland in 2011. [04:29.600 --> 04:31.240] Three-year-old Carlos Nava [04:31.240 --> 04:34.080] and 23-year-old Hiram Lawrence Jr. [04:34.080 --> 04:36.120] were also shot and killed. [04:36.120 --> 04:39.240] Petaluma police have identified an alleged drunk driver [04:39.240 --> 04:41.560] suspected of hitting a 15-year-old boy [04:41.560 --> 04:42.840] who was at a crosswalk. [04:42.840 --> 04:46.640] Investigators say 20-year-old Wesley Pickford of Novato [04:46.640 --> 04:49.720] failed to stop at East Washington and Edith Streets, [04:49.720 --> 04:53.400] striking the teen in the crosswalk there around 12.30 a.m. [04:53.400 --> 04:55.600] The boy is listed in stable condition [04:55.600 --> 04:57.280] but with serious injuries. [04:57.280 --> 04:59.720] Pickford was booked into the Sonoma County jail [04:59.720 --> 05:01.960] on $30,000 bail. [05:01.960 --> 05:06.400] The CHP is reporting two fatality, fatal DUI-related crashes [05:06.400 --> 05:09.480] in the Bay Area so far this New Year's holiday weekend. [05:09.480 --> 05:11.720] Now that's actually down from four fatalities [05:11.720 --> 05:13.480] for the same time last year. [05:13.480 --> 05:18.480] The number of DUI arrests is up with a total of 161 arrests [05:18.800 --> 05:21.040] compared to 124 last year. [05:21.040 --> 05:23.000] Those numbers though are expected to rise [05:23.000 --> 05:25.160] when the CHP releases the totals [05:25.160 --> 05:27.400] from its maximum enforcement effort [05:27.400 --> 05:30.000] which ends Monday at midnight. [05:30.000 --> 05:32.120] Now to the South Bay where a family there [05:32.120 --> 05:34.920] is starting the New Year in temporary housing. [05:34.920 --> 05:38.120] After a three-alarm fire gutted the historic San Jose home [05:38.120 --> 05:41.480] they lived in and less than an hour into the New Year. [05:41.480 --> 05:43.680] Katie's Maureen Naylor obtained cell phone video [05:43.680 --> 05:46.720] showing the challenge firefighters faced. [05:46.720 --> 05:48.720] It's gone, everything's gone my whole life. [05:48.720 --> 05:51.960] Elizabeth Suarez never thought she'd start 2012 barefoot [05:51.960 --> 05:54.360] outside the historic downtown San Jose house [05:54.360 --> 05:56.240] she's rented for the past five years. [05:56.240 --> 05:58.320] No shoes, no nothing. [05:59.360 --> 06:00.480] I mean, I got nothing. [06:00.480 --> 06:02.960] I don't have my purse, my ID, nothing. [06:02.960 --> 06:04.200] Everything's just gone. [06:04.200 --> 06:06.840] Everything, she says, but this basket of laundry. [06:06.840 --> 06:09.280] Firefighters are still investigating what caused the fire [06:09.280 --> 06:12.760] at this Victorian home just 50 minutes into the New Year. [06:12.760 --> 06:14.440] A neighbor shot this cell phone video [06:14.440 --> 06:17.960] showing flames consuming the attic and first floor. [06:17.960 --> 06:20.400] Suarez says she, her two teenage children, [06:20.400 --> 06:22.200] and a friend were sleeping inside [06:22.200 --> 06:23.960] when the smoke detector went off. [06:23.960 --> 06:27.040] It started in my son's room because my friend woke us up [06:27.040 --> 06:30.880] and said he smelled smoke and that's when the smoke came in [06:30.880 --> 06:32.200] and then we opened the door and flames [06:32.200 --> 06:33.840] were just all over the place [06:33.840 --> 06:35.240] and I just immediately got my kids up. [06:35.240 --> 06:36.600] It's get up, get up, those are fire. [06:36.600 --> 06:39.560] They were fighting a difficult battle from the start. [06:39.560 --> 06:41.600] Difficult, Fire Captain Rob Brown says [06:41.600 --> 06:44.920] because these historic homes often lack fire breaks. [06:44.920 --> 06:45.960] When we get fires like this, [06:45.960 --> 06:47.240] we can end up with fire in the basement [06:47.240 --> 06:50.080] and the attic and the fire floor within minutes. [06:50.080 --> 06:53.000] Everyone escaped safely, but the home on North Fifth Street, [06:53.000 --> 06:55.680] which is part of San Jose's Hensley Historic District, [06:55.680 --> 06:57.160] was severely damaged. [06:57.160 --> 07:00.840] It's sad, I mean, basically we lose these by fire [07:00.840 --> 07:03.320] and it's about the, you know, unfortunately they're protected [07:03.320 --> 07:05.120] but you can't protect them from fire. [07:05.120 --> 07:06.600] Firefighters estimate the damage of [07:06.600 --> 07:08.520] at least a half a million dollars. [07:08.520 --> 07:10.360] The family says the Red Cross is putting them up [07:10.360 --> 07:12.280] for a few days until they can figure out [07:12.280 --> 07:13.840] where they're gonna live next. [07:13.840 --> 07:17.800] In San Jose, Maureen Naylor, KTVU Channel 2 News. [07:17.800 --> 07:20.640] It is a new year and with that come several new laws [07:20.640 --> 07:23.800] for California, whether it's how you buckle up your kids [07:23.800 --> 07:26.040] in the car or what types of treatment [07:26.040 --> 07:28.680] medical insurance must cover. [07:28.680 --> 07:31.160] There is a good chance one of these new laws [07:31.160 --> 07:32.000] will apply to you. [07:32.000 --> 07:34.440] Now KTVU's Claudine Wong will detail [07:34.440 --> 07:38.160] some of those new laws coming up later in the newscast. [07:38.160 --> 07:40.760] The squirrel monkey named Banana Sam is back [07:40.760 --> 07:43.720] in his enclosure at the San Francisco Zoo this evening. [07:43.720 --> 07:46.800] The 17 year old squirrel monkey was found yesterday afternoon [07:46.800 --> 07:50.360] by a man in Stern Grove Park about a mile from the zoo. [07:50.360 --> 07:53.360] The unidentified man coax the tiny monkey [07:53.360 --> 07:56.520] back into his backpack and then that man called police [07:56.520 --> 07:58.120] who took him to the zoo. [07:58.120 --> 08:00.760] Officials there say the monkey was scared and hungry [08:00.760 --> 08:02.200] but otherwise healthy. [08:02.200 --> 08:05.840] Banana Sam was either taken or escaped from his enclosure [08:05.840 --> 08:08.480] on Thursday night after someone cut the fencing. [08:08.480 --> 08:10.800] The man who found the monkey was questioned [08:10.800 --> 08:12.960] and is not considered a suspect. [08:12.960 --> 08:15.600] Well it may be January 1st but it didn't feel much [08:15.600 --> 08:17.920] like winter today across the Bay Area. [08:17.920 --> 08:20.080] Christie Field in San Francisco was just one [08:20.080 --> 08:22.720] of the many places where people went for a walk, [08:22.720 --> 08:24.520] run or plate fetch with their dog, [08:24.520 --> 08:27.520] wearing only short sleeves, maybe even a light jacket. [08:27.520 --> 08:30.520] Temperatures across the Bay Area were as much as 10 degrees [08:30.520 --> 08:33.760] above average today and we've seen less than half [08:33.760 --> 08:36.320] the normal rainfall for the season. [08:36.320 --> 08:38.640] With more on our very mild and dry weather, [08:38.640 --> 08:40.400] we go to our meteorologist Mark Tamayo. [08:40.400 --> 08:41.240] Mark? [08:41.240 --> 08:43.520] Heather, in fact we're taking a live look outside right now [08:43.520 --> 08:45.680] looking out toward the beautiful San Francisco Bay. [08:45.680 --> 08:47.960] The high clouds have been increasing over the past [08:47.960 --> 08:49.840] a few hours and those clouds will be a factor [08:49.840 --> 08:52.400] as we do head into it tomorrow but most of the Bay Area [08:52.400 --> 08:56.960] warmed up into the 60s this afternoon, mid and upper 60s. [08:56.960 --> 08:58.720] As the high clouds spill into the region, [08:58.720 --> 09:01.160] temperatures will be cooling off back down to the 30s [09:01.160 --> 09:04.320] and 40s as you can pick out on Livestorm Tracker 2 [09:04.320 --> 09:05.320] on the satellite. [09:05.320 --> 09:07.360] We can't show you this as we do take a look [09:07.360 --> 09:08.560] at our next source. [09:08.560 --> 09:10.800] There you can pick out on Livestorm Tracker 2. [09:10.800 --> 09:12.360] Just a few high clouds approaching. [09:12.360 --> 09:14.360] Cape Mendocino and the bulk of the moisture [09:14.360 --> 09:15.600] out here in the Pacific. [09:15.600 --> 09:17.760] There is a very weak weather system approaching [09:17.760 --> 09:19.640] our coastline that will have an effect [09:19.640 --> 09:21.080] on our forecast for tomorrow. [09:21.080 --> 09:23.720] With that, we do bring in just a slight chance [09:23.720 --> 09:26.080] of some drizzle up in the North Bay or a few sprinkles [09:26.080 --> 09:28.840] but we should be cooling things off as we do head [09:28.840 --> 09:29.800] into your Monday. [09:29.800 --> 09:31.760] As far as this rain free weather, [09:31.760 --> 09:33.800] I'll let you know if we have any rain clouds coming up [09:33.800 --> 09:35.800] in that five day forecast and your full update [09:35.800 --> 09:36.920] in just a few minutes. [09:36.920 --> 09:37.880] All right, thanks Mark. [09:37.880 --> 09:40.880] Well today and tomorrow are spare the air days [09:40.880 --> 09:43.520] which means of course wood burning is banned. [09:43.520 --> 09:46.520] The Bay Area Air Quality District says the lack of wind [09:46.520 --> 09:49.440] is creating unhealthy air which can be problematic [09:49.440 --> 09:51.240] for those with breathing problems. [09:51.240 --> 09:54.400] Now tomorrow's spare the air day will be the 12th [09:54.400 --> 09:57.600] this season compared to four last season. [09:57.600 --> 09:59.720] Tens of thousands of people rang in new year [09:59.720 --> 10:03.160] along San Francisco's Embarcadero this morning. [10:03.160 --> 10:08.160] The chilly temperatures didn't keep people away [10:09.720 --> 10:13.040] from the open air party with many dressed in warm jackets [10:13.040 --> 10:15.800] and others with top hats and tuxedos. [10:15.800 --> 10:18.480] Many revelers found it hard to move through the crowd [10:18.480 --> 10:20.720] as the clock approached midnight. [10:20.720 --> 10:24.160] Taxis and public transit ran into the early morning hours [10:24.160 --> 10:25.880] getting people back home. [10:31.760 --> 10:34.840] Hundreds of thousands crowded into New York's Times Square [10:34.840 --> 10:36.120] to watch the ball drop. [10:36.120 --> 10:40.600] The party left plenty of work for 149 sanitation workers [10:40.600 --> 10:42.640] who converged on the area this morning, [10:42.640 --> 10:45.920] picking up 50 tons of party hats, empty containers [10:45.920 --> 10:49.480] and confetti with 22 trucks, 24 sweepers [10:49.480 --> 10:52.040] and 37 backpack blowers. [10:52.040 --> 10:53.800] Well the stroke of midnight rang in more [10:53.800 --> 10:56.240] than the new year for one San Lorenzo family. [10:56.240 --> 10:59.240] It also brought them their first baby girl. [10:59.240 --> 11:02.440] May we introduce you now to little Sophia Trigueros. [11:02.440 --> 11:05.120] According to those at Eden Medical Center in Castro Valley, [11:05.120 --> 11:09.440] Sophia is the first baby born in the Bay Area in 2012. [11:09.440 --> 11:11.840] Amelia Trigueros says Sophia wasn't actually due [11:11.840 --> 11:15.080] until January 3rd, but around 5.30 last night [11:15.080 --> 11:17.960] she went into labor and the family had their fingers crossed [11:17.960 --> 11:20.720] that baby would wait until midnight. [11:20.720 --> 11:22.720] She gets to count down to her birthday every year. [11:22.720 --> 11:25.760] She's gonna think all the fireworks are for her. [11:25.760 --> 11:27.120] And they are for her, right? [11:27.120 --> 11:29.760] Sophia weighed in at seven pounds, five ounces [11:29.760 --> 11:31.800] and was a little more than 19 inches long. [11:31.800 --> 11:34.600] And when Sophia goes home, she will be greeted [11:34.600 --> 11:37.080] by four older brothers. [11:37.080 --> 11:39.360] Police in Washington state are looking for a gunman [11:39.360 --> 11:42.280] who shot and killed a park ranger on Mount Rainier, [11:42.280 --> 11:43.640] also a head. [11:43.640 --> 11:46.240] It will be a restless night for some people living [11:46.240 --> 11:50.360] in the LA area as the community braces for more arses. [11:50.360 --> 11:53.320] Also the final push is now underway in Iowa [11:53.320 --> 11:57.200] as GOP hopefuls stuff for votes ahead of Tuesday's caucuses. [11:57.200 --> 12:00.280] And new figures are out on just how much money was lost [12:00.280 --> 12:02.400] in the Bay Area housing market. [12:02.400 --> 12:07.400] The Ford, Gio and Celigon is going on now. [12:08.160 --> 12:10.240] Get huge rebates and incredible savings [12:10.240 --> 12:11.840] as we close out 2011. [13:08.600 --> 13:10.720] Is there a prize in there? [13:10.720 --> 13:12.320] There's a prize, all right. [13:12.320 --> 13:13.680] Is it a robot? [13:13.680 --> 13:14.600] No. [13:14.600 --> 13:16.360] Is it a jet plane? [13:16.360 --> 13:17.200] Nope. [13:17.200 --> 13:18.880] Is it a dinosaur? [13:18.880 --> 13:21.000] Inside every box of heart-healthy Cheerios [13:21.000 --> 13:22.800] are those great-tasting little O's [13:22.800 --> 13:24.400] made from carefully selected oats [13:24.400 --> 13:25.800] that can help lower cholesterol. [13:25.800 --> 13:26.800] Stickers? [13:26.800 --> 13:27.640] Uh-uh. [13:27.640 --> 13:28.480] A superhero? [13:30.480 --> 13:31.520] Kinda. [13:31.520 --> 13:33.760] And we think that's the best prize of all. [13:35.720 --> 13:37.280] A home. [13:37.280 --> 13:40.520] Sometimes your best singing is done not behind the microphone. [13:40.520 --> 13:42.480] Home is whenever I'm with you. [13:42.480 --> 13:43.960] But behind the wheel. [13:43.960 --> 13:45.800] A home. [13:45.800 --> 13:48.520] Let me come home. [13:48.520 --> 13:52.200] Home is whenever I'm with you. [13:52.200 --> 13:54.920] Wonder what you'll sound like in a Hyundai. [13:55.880 --> 13:58.320] Now you can lease the 2012 Santa Fe [13:58.320 --> 14:01.840] for just $2.69 a month during Hyundai Holidays, [14:01.840 --> 14:04.360] but only at your Bay Area Hyundai dealers. [14:07.560 --> 14:09.360] A manhunt is underway at this hour [14:09.360 --> 14:11.080] on Washington's Mount Rainier [14:11.080 --> 14:14.440] after a gunman shot and killed a park ranger. [14:14.440 --> 14:16.200] The gunman is believed to be somewhere [14:16.200 --> 14:18.520] in the expansive National Park. [14:18.520 --> 14:20.800] Authorities say around 10.30 this morning [14:20.800 --> 14:23.280] a ranger tried to pull over the suspect, [14:23.280 --> 14:26.320] for a, a suspect rather, for a routine traffic stop. [14:26.320 --> 14:28.200] But when the driver didn't stop, [14:28.200 --> 14:31.040] 34-year-old park ranger Margaret Anderson [14:31.040 --> 14:33.280] set up her vehicle as a roadblock. [14:33.280 --> 14:35.440] When the suspect arrived at the roadblock, [14:35.440 --> 14:38.800] he got out of his car and shot and killed Anderson. [14:38.800 --> 14:41.200] Police and firefighters in the Los Angeles area [14:41.200 --> 14:42.680] are on high alert tonight [14:42.680 --> 14:45.320] as they deal with 39 arsons. [14:45.320 --> 14:47.080] This car fire in West Hollywood [14:47.080 --> 14:50.600] was one of seven new fires that broke out just overnight. [14:50.600 --> 14:52.320] The car fires have often spread [14:52.320 --> 14:54.320] to nearby apartment complexes [14:54.320 --> 14:57.800] and heavily damaged a home once owned by Jim Morrison. [14:57.800 --> 15:00.560] Since the arson outbreak began late Thursday, [15:00.560 --> 15:02.720] authorities have been working round the clock [15:02.720 --> 15:05.120] to try to find the firebug. [15:05.120 --> 15:07.520] The acts we've seen over the last 72 hours [15:07.520 --> 15:09.080] here in these communities have kept [15:09.080 --> 15:10.760] these public safety professionals up at night [15:10.760 --> 15:12.560] and working tirelessly. [15:12.560 --> 15:15.160] Since December 30th, the Los Angeles Fire Department alone [15:15.160 --> 15:19.080] has responded to over 3,300 calls for service in the city. [15:20.240 --> 15:22.840] A white male in his mid-30s with a ponytail [15:22.840 --> 15:25.800] was spotted by a parking garage security camera, [15:25.800 --> 15:28.920] but it is unclear tonight if he is the sole arsonist [15:28.920 --> 15:32.520] or if some of those fires are being set now by copycats. [15:32.520 --> 15:35.120] California faces new budget woes this year [15:35.120 --> 15:38.320] as $1 billion in automatic cuts are triggered [15:38.320 --> 15:41.560] by a shortfall in last year's tax revenue. [15:41.560 --> 15:43.920] Most of those cuts will come out of higher education, [15:43.920 --> 15:47.960] but already hit hard by a 16% drop in overall state spending [15:47.960 --> 15:49.560] since the start of the recession. [15:49.560 --> 15:51.720] Governor Brown is proposing a ballot measure [15:51.720 --> 15:54.320] that would raise $7 billion a year [15:54.320 --> 15:57.360] by raising state income taxes on the wealthy [15:57.360 --> 15:59.840] and increasing the sales tax on everyone else. [15:59.840 --> 16:02.760] If nothing is done, California will face [16:02.760 --> 16:06.920] another $13 billion in cuts over the next year and a half. [16:06.920 --> 16:11.120] Exxon has won a large award in a dispute with Venezuela. [16:11.120 --> 16:14.480] Back in 2007, President Hugo Chavez's government [16:14.480 --> 16:18.520] nationalized a reserve that contained an Exxon oil project. [16:18.520 --> 16:20.360] Well today, the oil company announced [16:20.360 --> 16:22.320] the International Chamber of Commerce [16:22.320 --> 16:25.800] awarded it nearly $908 million. [16:25.800 --> 16:28.540] The commerce body found Venezuela's state oil company [16:28.540 --> 16:30.640] was liable for that takeover. [16:30.640 --> 16:34.200] Venezuela has not commented yet on the award to Exxon. [16:36.240 --> 16:38.820] Republicans hoping to win the Iowa caucus [16:38.820 --> 16:40.240] took to the airwaves today, [16:40.240 --> 16:43.120] making their final case before Tuesday's vote. [16:43.120 --> 16:45.160] Also today, a newspaper endorsement [16:45.160 --> 16:48.600] supported Mitt Romney's narrow lead in the polls. [16:48.600 --> 16:50.640] But the final results are up for grabs, [16:50.640 --> 16:53.440] with many Iowa voters still undecided. [16:53.440 --> 16:57.060] Reporter Barbara Hall has the latest on the campaign trail. [16:57.060 --> 16:58.880] A political fight to the finish line [16:58.880 --> 17:02.720] before the first real voting of the 2012 presidential race. [17:02.720 --> 17:04.360] The latest Des Moines Register poll [17:04.360 --> 17:07.720] shows Mitt Romney and Ron Paul neck and neck. [17:07.720 --> 17:10.400] Paul says his campaign is picking up momentum. [17:10.400 --> 17:12.200] We're doing very, very well, [17:12.200 --> 17:15.960] and people should just be a little bit patient. [17:15.960 --> 17:17.560] On Tuesday, we're gonna find out a lot more [17:17.560 --> 17:19.060] about the future of this election. [17:19.060 --> 17:22.680] Rival Mitt Romney is narrowly leading among caucus goers. [17:22.680 --> 17:24.780] On Sunday, he picked up another endorsement [17:24.780 --> 17:27.800] from Iowa newspaper, The Quad City Times. [17:27.800 --> 17:30.600] Former Senator Rick Santorum of Pennsylvania [17:30.600 --> 17:32.720] rounded out the top three in the poll. [17:32.720 --> 17:35.080] My surge is gonna come on January 3rd, [17:35.080 --> 17:37.240] after the people of Iowa do what they do, [17:37.240 --> 17:39.360] which is actually analyze the candidates, [17:39.360 --> 17:41.280] figure out where their positions are, [17:41.280 --> 17:43.280] find out who's the right leader, [17:43.280 --> 17:45.600] who's got what it takes to defeat Barack Obama [17:45.600 --> 17:47.280] and to lead this country. [17:47.280 --> 17:49.320] Iowa's governor seems to agree. [17:49.320 --> 17:52.920] My goal is, as governor, unite the Republican Party, [17:52.920 --> 17:56.920] attract the independents, and defeat Obama. [17:56.920 --> 17:58.640] We launched him, we wanna sink him. [17:58.640 --> 18:00.440] Also on the campaign trail Sunday, [18:00.440 --> 18:02.760] Newt Gingrich, Rick Perry, and Michelle Bachman [18:02.760 --> 18:05.080] stumping in Iowa, while John Huntsman [18:05.080 --> 18:07.760] focuses on New Hampshire, which votes a week [18:07.760 --> 18:09.980] after the Iowa caucus. [18:09.980 --> 18:12.480] I'm Barbara Hull reporting. [18:12.480 --> 18:14.200] And as the presidential race heats up, [18:14.200 --> 18:16.560] you could be asked to share your opinion. [18:16.560 --> 18:19.600] The non-profit, non-partisan Pew Research Center [18:19.600 --> 18:21.920] is one of the largest pollsters in the nation. [18:21.920 --> 18:24.600] And while many people say they don't have time for a poll, [18:24.600 --> 18:26.600] some question why they've never been asked [18:26.600 --> 18:28.120] for their opinion. [18:28.120 --> 18:33.120] There are 220 or 30 million adults in the United States. [18:33.120 --> 18:36.180] Our typical survey will interview 1,500. [18:36.180 --> 18:38.260] Even over the course of a year, the chance [18:38.260 --> 18:41.220] that we would call any given individual [18:41.220 --> 18:44.900] is only about one in 150,000. [18:44.900 --> 18:47.780] Callers are never told who is actually conducting the poll [18:47.780 --> 18:49.780] to prevent the survey from being influenced [18:49.780 --> 18:52.600] by partisan feelings of either the poll takers [18:52.600 --> 18:54.660] or those who answer the poll. [18:54.660 --> 18:56.460] Authorities at Kennedy Airport in New York [18:56.460 --> 18:58.380] arrested a college student from China [18:58.380 --> 19:01.940] who they say tried to bring a stun gun on board a plane. [19:01.940 --> 19:04.300] The TSA says a screener noticed something [19:04.300 --> 19:06.860] looking like a flashlight in the woman's luggage. [19:06.860 --> 19:08.660] Upon further inspection, the screener [19:08.660 --> 19:10.540] saw that it was a stun gun. [19:10.540 --> 19:11.860] The college student told reporters [19:11.860 --> 19:14.380] she pleaded not guilty and believes her case [19:14.380 --> 19:17.140] will result in a fine. [19:17.140 --> 19:20.060] A member of the US military is in custody tonight, [19:20.060 --> 19:21.900] facing charges of attempting to bring [19:21.900 --> 19:24.020] explosives onto an airplane. [19:24.020 --> 19:27.100] The FBI says 30-year-old Trey Scott Atwater [19:27.100 --> 19:30.180] was stopped Saturday at a security checkpoint [19:30.180 --> 19:32.460] at Midland Airport in Texas. [19:32.460 --> 19:35.140] Searchers say they found explosives in his bag [19:35.140 --> 19:38.900] in what are being called military-grade wrappings. [19:38.900 --> 19:41.620] Atwater is stationed at Fort Bragg in North Carolina [19:41.620 --> 19:43.780] and was in Midland visiting family. [19:43.780 --> 19:45.980] His arraignment is set for Tuesday. [19:45.980 --> 19:50.060] Air travel fatalities worldwide fell dramatically last year. [19:50.060 --> 19:52.900] There were 401 deaths on commercial and charter [19:52.900 --> 19:58.100] aircraft in 2011, compared to 726 in 2010. [19:58.100 --> 20:00.220] Now, excluding acts of terrorism, the number [20:00.220 --> 20:04.980] of air travel-related fatalities has fallen steadily since 1990, [20:04.980 --> 20:07.740] with airline experts crediting better pilot training [20:07.740 --> 20:09.260] and safer airplanes. [20:09.260 --> 20:11.420] British aviation research company Ascent [20:11.420 --> 20:14.140] says your odds of dying on a commercial flight [20:14.140 --> 20:16.460] are one in 7 million. [20:16.460 --> 20:19.340] New figures out today show how hard the recession has hit [20:19.340 --> 20:21.340] the Bay Area housing market. [20:21.340 --> 20:24.020] In an analysis for the San Jose Mercury News, [20:24.020 --> 20:27.260] DataQuik reports that local homes lost more than a third [20:27.260 --> 20:30.500] of a trillion dollars during the past four years. [20:30.500 --> 20:34.660] Homes in Oakland lost an average of $350,000. [20:34.660 --> 20:38.300] In Concord, the average loss was $289,000, [20:38.300 --> 20:44.380] with $267,000 in San Jose and $205,000 in San Francisco. [20:44.380 --> 20:48.940] Home equity loans have dropped about 90% since 2007. [20:48.940 --> 20:52.940] NASA says two identical probes are now circling the moon. [20:52.940 --> 20:55.340] The two spacecraft are part of a mission [20:55.340 --> 20:59.300] called GRAIL, short for Gravity Recovery and Interior [20:59.300 --> 21:00.420] Laboratory. [21:00.420 --> 21:03.660] They were designed to map the moon's gravity field [21:03.660 --> 21:07.220] in an effort to understand what is below the moon's surface. [21:07.220 --> 21:10.100] NASA engineers plan to maneuver the two orbiters closer [21:10.100 --> 21:13.980] to the moon and start the mapping in March. [24:05.620 --> 24:06.780] See your Lexus dealer. [24:08.900 --> 24:10.180] In news of the world tonight, [24:10.180 --> 24:12.500] in Iran today, state television aired video [24:12.500 --> 24:16.820] of an Iranian Navy ship test firing a surface-to-air missile [24:16.820 --> 24:19.540] during a drill near the Strait of Hormuz. [24:19.540 --> 24:21.540] A leading Iranian lawmaker said the drill [24:21.540 --> 24:23.900] is practiced for closing the waterway [24:23.900 --> 24:26.720] if the West blocks Iran's oil sales. [24:26.720 --> 24:29.620] Also today, Iran's nuclear agency claimed workers [24:29.620 --> 24:33.700] have made and tested the first nuclear fuel rod. [24:33.700 --> 24:35.980] Now this news comes a day after Iran called [24:35.980 --> 24:39.660] for a new round of talks about its nuclear program. [24:39.660 --> 24:41.820] In Syria today, Arab League monitors [24:41.820 --> 24:44.700] remained in the country despite calls for them to leave [24:44.700 --> 24:46.900] from inside the Arab League itself. [24:46.900 --> 24:49.620] The head of an advisory panel said the monitors [24:49.620 --> 24:52.680] are instead giving Syrian President Assad a cover [24:52.680 --> 24:55.900] to allow his forces to continue killing civilians. [24:55.900 --> 24:59.060] The monitors are supposed to be ensuring Syria complies [24:59.060 --> 25:00.980] with terms of the Arab League's plan [25:00.980 --> 25:03.940] to end the nine-month-old crackdown on dissent [25:03.940 --> 25:05.740] that has not yet happened. [25:05.740 --> 25:08.620] And in England today, nine-year-old Prince Philip [25:08.620 --> 25:10.840] was seen by the public for the first time [25:10.840 --> 25:13.060] since his emergency heart surgery. [25:13.060 --> 25:15.080] Doctors implanted a coronary stent [25:15.080 --> 25:17.980] after the prince went to a hospital with chest pains. [25:17.980 --> 25:20.460] The queen's husband walked about 400 yards today [25:20.460 --> 25:22.460] to attend New Year's Day services. [25:22.460 --> 25:25.940] His wife, Queen Elizabeth, rode that distance in a limousine. [25:25.940 --> 25:28.460] Men and women returning from wars overseas [25:28.460 --> 25:31.820] are coming home to a weak economy and high unemployment. [25:31.820 --> 25:33.940] Those who choose to go to college, however, [25:33.940 --> 25:35.340] will have some help. [25:35.340 --> 25:39.460] Reporter Anita Vogel talked to one veteran injured in Iraq [25:39.460 --> 25:41.820] who was getting help to go to college. [25:41.820 --> 25:44.600] Biggest thing was the economy took a dump on me [25:44.600 --> 25:46.140] right when I was getting out of the service. [25:46.140 --> 25:48.620] But California's Veterans Affairs Department [25:48.620 --> 25:53.300] is simplifying the transition from combat to the classroom. [25:53.300 --> 25:56.580] After signing up, vets get an email list of colleges [25:56.580 --> 26:00.100] in their zip code along with financial aid information. [26:00.100 --> 26:01.580] Much of their application is even [26:01.580 --> 26:05.260] filled out for them using data from their military forms, [26:05.260 --> 26:09.060] making it easier for vets like Ariza to get the ball rolling. [26:09.060 --> 26:11.180] I was a little lost at first and afraid to do it. [26:11.180 --> 26:13.860] I wanted to go to school, but just [26:13.860 --> 26:16.180] did not know how to even make the first step, [26:16.180 --> 26:17.860] even applying for school. [26:17.860 --> 26:20.380] That's changing, and California hopes [26:20.380 --> 26:22.660] it will become a model for other states [26:22.660 --> 26:26.740] to help vets with their first steps back into civilian life. [26:26.740 --> 26:29.420] Our veterans have made a sacrifice for our country, [26:29.420 --> 26:31.860] and they certainly deserve a helping hand [26:31.860 --> 26:33.420] when they come home. [26:33.420 --> 26:35.620] This is a joint venture between the California [26:35.620 --> 26:38.580] Department of Veterans Affairs and the California Community [26:38.580 --> 26:39.420] Colleges. [26:39.420 --> 26:43.300] Each year, 30,000 men and women return home from the service [26:43.300 --> 26:45.940] to civilian life in California. [26:45.940 --> 26:49.580] In Los Angeles, Anita Vogel, Fox News. [26:49.580 --> 26:52.700] Four men in North Carolina are facing arson charges [26:52.700 --> 26:56.180] for burning two American flags near an Occupy camp. [26:56.180 --> 26:59.180] It happened yesterday at the Occupy Charlotte camp. [26:59.180 --> 27:01.220] One of the men who was arrested says [27:01.220 --> 27:03.340] he burned the flags to inspire people [27:03.340 --> 27:05.660] to take more direct action in response [27:05.660 --> 27:07.060] to the world's problems. [27:07.060 --> 27:09.780] The flag burning upset other occupiers. [27:09.780 --> 27:12.700] Some of them decided to leave the Occupy camp [27:12.700 --> 27:14.500] after hearing the news. [27:14.500 --> 27:16.580] I do formally apologize to anyone [27:16.580 --> 27:18.740] who was offended by my actions. [27:18.740 --> 27:21.700] However, I do not apologize for the burning of the flag, [27:21.700 --> 27:23.900] as it is my constitutional right to do so. [27:23.900 --> 27:26.420] These people are not members of the Occupy movement. [27:26.420 --> 27:27.660] They're campers. [27:27.660 --> 27:31.780] I'm an occupier, because I'm occupying ethics, morality, [27:31.780 --> 27:36.620] principles, ideas, ways to move our country forward. [27:36.620 --> 27:38.540] As a group, Occupy Charlotte also [27:38.540 --> 27:40.300] made it clear that it does not support [27:40.300 --> 27:42.140] the burning of the flag. [27:42.140 --> 27:44.980] In Southern California, members of the Occupy movement [27:44.980 --> 27:47.780] are getting ready to march along the route for the Tournament [27:47.780 --> 27:49.060] of Roses parade. [27:49.060 --> 27:51.660] In addition to a huge US Constitution, [27:51.660 --> 27:54.940] they will have a massive octopus with tentacles meant [27:54.940 --> 27:58.820] to symbolize Wall Street's influence on American society. [27:58.820 --> 28:02.020] Pasadena city officials gave the OK for the occupiers [28:02.020 --> 28:05.740] to march after the Rose parade itself has finished. [28:05.740 --> 28:07.860] Well, it was a violent night in the South Bay. [28:07.860 --> 28:10.300] Hear what led up to the stabbings and shootings [28:10.300 --> 28:13.900] that kept San Jose police officers very busy last night. [28:13.900 --> 28:16.940] And with the new year comes new laws on the books, [28:16.940 --> 28:19.060] some of which are controversial. [28:19.060 --> 28:23.220] Also, what one lawmaker wants to do to prevent violent hazings, [28:23.220 --> 28:25.700] like the one that recently claimed the life of a Florida [28:25.700 --> 28:26.620] college student. [28:30.260 --> 28:32.020] Someone grabbed Sheldon's booty. [28:32.020 --> 28:34.020] You called the police because someone hacked [28:34.020 --> 28:35.700] your World of Warcraft account? [28:35.700 --> 28:37.300] Next Big Bang. [28:37.300 --> 29:05.940] Monday at 6.30 and 7 on Fox 2. [29:05.940 --> 29:07.500] This offer ends January 3rd. [30:52.740 --> 30:55.700] It was a violent start to the new year in San Jose, [30:55.700 --> 30:58.540] with as many as 10 shooting and stabbing incidents [30:58.540 --> 31:00.860] from last night to early this morning. [31:00.860 --> 31:03.940] KTVU's Deborah Villalon joins us live from San Jose [31:03.940 --> 31:06.140] with what happened. [31:06.140 --> 31:08.580] Well, we're downtown along the Guadalupe River, [31:08.580 --> 31:11.460] where a man was walking about 10 o'clock last night [31:11.460 --> 31:12.900] when he was stabbed. [31:12.900 --> 31:14.700] And that was just the beginning. [31:14.700 --> 31:18.900] Minutes later, another 911 call came in for shots fired [31:18.900 --> 31:20.540] in a residential neighborhood. [31:20.540 --> 31:23.940] Officers found two wounded, one man and one juvenile. [31:23.940 --> 31:26.220] The two victims were at a New Year's Eve gathering [31:26.220 --> 31:29.180] on Ridge Glen Way when that violence broke out. [31:29.180 --> 31:31.940] A neighbor tells us, as his household watched TV, [31:31.940 --> 31:34.780] they were startled by that gunfire. [31:34.780 --> 31:36.260] Well, they were watching here. [31:36.260 --> 31:39.060] And then we heard the gunshot with my son. [31:39.060 --> 31:44.260] And then, so I say, well, somebody's shooting, you know? [31:44.260 --> 31:46.860] And just minutes into the new year, more trouble, [31:46.860 --> 31:49.740] this time on Skull Drive in San Jose. [31:49.740 --> 31:52.780] On this street, a fight involving several people. [31:52.780 --> 31:56.020] And when it was over, six of them, mostly teenagers, [31:56.020 --> 31:58.180] went to the hospital with stab wounds. [31:58.180 --> 32:00.100] San Jose police haven't gotten back to us [32:00.100 --> 32:02.180] on what the brawl was all about. [32:02.180 --> 32:04.460] Neighbors who heard the screaming and sirens [32:04.460 --> 32:07.100] say this is generally a quiet area. [32:07.100 --> 32:10.580] I've been here more than 15 years. [32:10.580 --> 32:12.780] And it's not like that. [32:12.780 --> 32:13.620] It's not like that. [32:13.620 --> 32:17.780] Maybe it's people that come and decide to make parties. [32:17.780 --> 32:20.620] And it happens. [32:20.620 --> 32:22.580] And back now closer to downtown, the man [32:22.580 --> 32:25.380] stabbed near the river managed to walk to this street [32:25.380 --> 32:28.180] before bystanders called him an ambulance. [32:28.180 --> 32:31.500] Now, only one victim we're aware of at the shooting [32:31.500 --> 32:34.020] has injuries that may be life threatening. [32:34.020 --> 32:37.300] And as the night went on, there were three other gunfire [32:37.300 --> 32:40.820] incidents into cars, houses, and groups of people, [32:40.820 --> 32:45.480] but no one hit, and several scattered stabbings as well. [32:45.480 --> 32:48.180] All of this, police say, is unfortunate, [32:48.180 --> 32:50.900] but not unusual for New Year's Eve. [32:50.900 --> 32:52.020] We're live in San Jose. [32:52.020 --> 32:55.220] Deborah Villalon, KTVU, Channel 2 News. [32:55.220 --> 32:57.300] Well, the Creek police have arrested two men [32:57.300 --> 32:59.380] in connection with a nightclub assault. [32:59.380 --> 33:01.300] The attack happened early yesterday morning [33:01.300 --> 33:04.940] at the Vice Ultra Lounge on Arroyo Way and Civic Drive. [33:04.940 --> 33:07.780] The victim says he was pistol whipped by a group of people. [33:07.780 --> 33:09.780] He suffered a serious but non-life threatening [33:09.780 --> 33:10.820] head injury. [33:10.820 --> 33:13.860] Now, this is the same nightclub where a large fight broke out [33:13.860 --> 33:17.220] on November 27 with at least two people injured. [33:17.220 --> 33:19.300] New Year's Day always brings new laws, [33:19.300 --> 33:23.180] and 2012 brings changes that affect not only how you buckle [33:23.180 --> 33:25.340] up your kids, but also the medicine you buy [33:25.340 --> 33:27.700] and what your health insurance will cover. [33:27.700 --> 33:29.580] KTVU's Claudine Wong takes a look [33:29.580 --> 33:32.580] at some of the laws going into effect today. [33:32.580 --> 33:35.060] In the laundry list of laws going into effect today, [33:35.060 --> 33:37.900] most people knew about the one affecting kids and car seats. [33:37.900 --> 33:39.900] Instead of six years old or 60 pounds, [33:39.900 --> 33:43.460] new law says keep them in until they're eight or four foot nine. [33:43.460 --> 33:45.000] I did know about that one, yep, because I [33:45.000 --> 33:47.020] got a five-year-old here. [33:47.020 --> 33:48.580] Other laws target teens. [33:48.580 --> 33:50.260] They can't hop into a tanning booth [33:50.260 --> 33:51.980] or buy certain cough medicines. [33:51.980 --> 33:54.220] And schools, in a first for the nation, [33:54.220 --> 33:56.940] now have to teach about gay and lesbian contributions [33:56.940 --> 33:59.260] in the classroom and have to develop plans [33:59.260 --> 34:01.700] to address gay and lesbian bullying in school. [34:01.700 --> 34:03.160] Schools and sports also affected, [34:03.160 --> 34:04.500] with districts required to come up [34:04.500 --> 34:07.700] with a plan to address concussions in student athletes. [34:07.700 --> 34:10.420] Some question whether laws are necessary to make [34:10.420 --> 34:11.540] all this happen. [34:11.540 --> 34:13.140] I definitely understand that concern, [34:13.140 --> 34:14.860] but when you look at each one individually, [34:14.860 --> 34:16.420] it's kind of hard to argue against them. [34:16.420 --> 34:17.940] Some changes may not affect you. [34:17.940 --> 34:21.260] Janelle Hampton isn't worried about a ban on caffeinated beer. [34:21.260 --> 34:24.300] I do either beer or caffeine. [34:24.300 --> 34:29.820] Yeah, so I think I'll be OK. [34:29.820 --> 34:32.460] 2012 means gun owners have to change things up. [34:32.460 --> 34:34.580] They can no longer carry unloaded weapons [34:34.580 --> 34:35.740] in plain sight. [34:35.740 --> 34:38.780] Job seekers should remember most potential employers can no [34:38.780 --> 34:40.260] longer check your credit. [34:40.260 --> 34:41.860] And if you have a child with autism, [34:41.860 --> 34:45.140] health insurers are now required to cover treatments. [34:45.140 --> 34:47.200] And it's not just state laws bringing change. [34:47.200 --> 34:50.100] 2012 also means a plastic bag ban in San Jose, [34:50.100 --> 34:53.340] a minimum wage hike in San Francisco, and yes, PG and E [34:53.340 --> 34:54.900] rates going up too. [34:54.900 --> 34:57.580] In Oakland, Claudine Wong, KTVU, Channel 2 News. [34:57.580 --> 35:00.540] Other major new state laws include the DREAM Act, [35:00.540 --> 35:03.500] which allows California public colleges to give [35:03.500 --> 35:06.700] private financial aid to illegal immigrants. [35:06.700 --> 35:09.000] 3,200 large California companies will [35:09.000 --> 35:12.820] have to report on whether their supply chains use slave labor. [35:12.820 --> 35:15.660] It's hoped a law banning shark fin soup [35:15.660 --> 35:17.900] will reduce the slaughter of sharks. [35:17.900 --> 35:20.460] And on the local level, outdoor smoking is banned [35:20.460 --> 35:23.420] in all public places in Alameda, including sidewalks, [35:23.420 --> 35:25.940] outdoor work sites, and work vehicles. [35:25.940 --> 35:28.020] California is cracking down on businesses [35:28.020 --> 35:31.580] such as home builders paying employees cash under the table. [35:31.580 --> 35:34.540] The Chronicle reports this so-called underground economy [35:34.540 --> 35:38.600] cost the state $7 billion a year in lost revenues. [35:38.600 --> 35:41.060] Labor groups also say these businesses withhold [35:41.060 --> 35:44.100] payroll taxes for social security, Medicare, [35:44.100 --> 35:45.740] and unemployment insurance. [35:45.740 --> 35:47.940] California has assembled a task force, [35:47.940 --> 35:50.720] which includes the Departments of Industrial Relations, [35:50.720 --> 35:53.700] Employment Development, and the Board of Equalization. [35:53.700 --> 35:57.660] Unlicensed contractors face fines as well as jail time. [35:57.660 --> 36:01.220] A nationwide anti-hazing law could be introduced in Congress [36:01.220 --> 36:01.860] this month. [36:01.860 --> 36:04.820] Florida A&M University has come under close scrutiny [36:04.820 --> 36:08.100] since drum major Robert Champion died during a hazing ritual [36:08.100 --> 36:09.140] in November. [36:09.140 --> 36:11.400] The proposed law by a Florida congressman [36:11.400 --> 36:14.540] would strip financial aid from anyone sanctioned [36:14.540 --> 36:18.100] by a university for hazing or witnessing hazing [36:18.100 --> 36:21.020] and failing to report it, including the victim. [36:21.020 --> 36:23.460] The hazing measure comes as Congress considers [36:23.460 --> 36:26.620] anti-bullying legislation to protect school children. [36:26.620 --> 36:28.540] The corruption trial of former leaders [36:28.540 --> 36:30.820] of the Southern California city of Bell [36:30.820 --> 36:32.980] will proceed, at least for now. [36:32.980 --> 36:35.380] A state appellate court has dismissed an appeal [36:35.380 --> 36:38.100] by six former council members to charges [36:38.100 --> 36:40.740] that they padded their six-figure salaries [36:40.740 --> 36:42.820] without doing the required work. [36:42.820 --> 36:45.220] All six received thousands of dollars a month [36:45.220 --> 36:47.940] for work on council boards, which prosecutors [36:47.940 --> 36:50.060] say rarely have ever met. [36:50.060 --> 36:52.100] The former officials say they will appeal [36:52.100 --> 36:53.740] to the state's Supreme Court. [36:53.740 --> 36:55.620] A San Jose-based solar company has [36:55.620 --> 36:58.860] dropped plans to build a solar plant in Michigan. [36:58.860 --> 37:02.300] Global Watt blames the recession and competition [37:02.300 --> 37:04.500] from overseas for the cancellation. [37:04.500 --> 37:07.780] Saginaw, Michigan was to see 500 new jobs [37:07.780 --> 37:11.180] when plans for the factory were announced back in 2009. [37:11.180 --> 37:13.980] Officials there approved millions of dollars in incentives, [37:13.980 --> 37:15.900] but the money was never distributed [37:15.900 --> 37:17.980] because the jobs never happened. [37:17.980 --> 37:20.540] Blackbirds have fallen dead from the sky [37:20.540 --> 37:23.740] in a central Arkansas town for the second New Year's Eve [37:23.740 --> 37:24.660] in a row. [37:24.660 --> 37:26.780] Police are working with animal control officers [37:26.780 --> 37:30.300] to figure out the exact number of birds that were killed. [37:30.300 --> 37:32.480] Now, it's not clear if year-end celebrations [37:32.480 --> 37:33.740] are again to blame. [37:33.740 --> 37:35.540] You may remember last year fireworks [37:35.540 --> 37:38.140] were blamed for the deaths of thousands of birds. [37:38.140 --> 37:39.820] Biologists said last year's deaths [37:39.820 --> 37:42.780] were caused by the birds being jolted by the fireworks [37:42.780 --> 37:45.540] and flying right into homes, cars, telephone poles, [37:45.540 --> 37:47.500] and even each other. [37:47.500 --> 37:49.540] Well, it has been dry in the Sierra. [37:49.540 --> 37:52.460] We'll tell you just how little snow has fallen in the Tahoe [37:52.460 --> 37:54.460] area so far this season. [37:54.460 --> 37:57.860] And will the dry weather around the Bay Area stick around? [37:57.860 --> 37:59.820] Channel 2 meteorologist Mark Tamayo [37:59.820 --> 38:01.740] will be here with a look at the forecast [38:01.740 --> 38:06.780] for the first week of 2012. [38:06.780 --> 38:08.300] This is a dumb roof. [38:08.300 --> 38:09.700] This is a smart roof. [38:09.700 --> 38:11.660] And this is a smarter roof. [38:11.660 --> 38:15.060] Smarter roofs save you big money on your energy bills. [38:28.260 --> 38:30.980] And for a limited time, pay no down and no interest [38:30.980 --> 38:31.900] for one year. [38:31.900 --> 38:37.140] Sleep Train, your ticket to a better night's sleep. [38:37.140 --> 38:38.100] Let's talk deals. [38:38.100 --> 38:38.980] Let's talk clearance. [38:38.980 --> 38:40.940] Let's talk Honda. [38:51.300 --> 38:54.580] That's right, zero down, zero first month's payment, [38:54.580 --> 38:58.620] zero security deposit, and 0.9% APR. [39:07.420 --> 39:10.700] In the name of love, a musical tribute to Dr. Martin Luther [39:10.700 --> 39:13.860] King Jr. takes place January 15 at the Paramount Theater [39:13.860 --> 39:14.700] in Oakland. [39:14.700 --> 39:17.820] Visit MLKTribute.com. [39:17.820 --> 39:19.700] Henry. [39:19.700 --> 39:21.140] OK, I don't know where he is. [39:21.140 --> 39:22.540] Maybe he went outside. [39:22.540 --> 39:23.340] I have a dog. [39:23.340 --> 39:24.740] And you know, if you have a dog, you [39:24.740 --> 39:28.780] need to get your carpet cleaned at least twice a year. [39:47.660 --> 39:51.460] This year, I decided to spare no expense for our holiday dinner. [39:51.460 --> 39:54.660] So I hired renowned chef Gordon Ramsay. [39:54.660 --> 39:57.260] Oh, come on, it's disgusting. [39:57.260 --> 39:58.300] On you, what are you doing? [39:58.300 --> 40:00.060] It's raw, you idiot. [40:00.060 --> 40:01.780] Is this your first day? [40:01.780 --> 40:03.260] Congratulations, it's your last. [40:03.260 --> 40:04.220] Get out of here. [40:04.220 --> 40:06.300] At a time when it's easy to go overboard. [40:06.300 --> 40:07.980] Happy holidays. [40:07.980 --> 40:11.460] Acura invites you to be smarter and over-save during the season [40:11.460 --> 40:12.620] of Reason sales event. [40:12.620 --> 40:16.060] Take advantage of attractive offers on the 2012 Acura TSX [40:16.060 --> 40:19.300] for well-qualified customers. [40:19.300 --> 40:21.500] Resolutions, well, like almost everything else, [40:21.500 --> 40:22.860] there is an app for that. [40:22.860 --> 40:25.060] To keep your New Year's resolutions strong, [40:25.060 --> 40:27.900] programmers are offering smartphone applications [40:27.900 --> 40:30.180] to track eating, smoking, or other habits [40:30.180 --> 40:31.860] that you're trying to change. [40:31.860 --> 40:34.260] Reporter Karen Kafer explains. [40:34.260 --> 40:36.740] Out with old habits, in with the new. [40:36.740 --> 40:42.620] I'm going to join a gym and become more active. [40:42.620 --> 40:44.620] I'm going to try to drink more water because I [40:44.620 --> 40:46.020] drink too much diet soda. [40:46.020 --> 40:48.700] New Year's resolutions are easy to make [40:48.700 --> 40:50.900] and even easier to break. [40:50.900 --> 40:52.460] Have you guys ever had a resolution [40:52.460 --> 40:53.500] that you didn't quite stick with? [40:53.500 --> 40:54.180] Yes. [40:54.180 --> 40:54.700] What was that? [40:54.700 --> 40:56.300] Going on a diet. [40:56.300 --> 40:58.900] I was just stop biting my nails, but that never worked out. [40:58.900 --> 41:02.460] So what if you had a reminder in your pocket every day? [41:02.460 --> 41:06.300] That's the goal of smartphone apps like Resolutions 2012, [41:06.300 --> 41:09.260] which lets users choose goals, identify habits [41:09.260 --> 41:12.980] they need to change to meet them, and track progress. [41:12.980 --> 41:15.940] Weight loss is a popular resolution each year. [41:15.940 --> 41:18.020] The Daily Burn app for iPhone manages [41:18.020 --> 41:20.140] workouts and calorie counts. [41:20.140 --> 41:22.060] The new Weight Loss app for Android [41:22.060 --> 41:26.300] gives day-by-day tips on eating, working out, and slimming down. [41:26.300 --> 41:28.180] The My Quick Coach app from Livestrong [41:28.180 --> 41:31.100] is for those who want to kick butts in 2012. [41:31.100 --> 41:32.660] The app presents daily guidelines [41:32.660 --> 41:35.380] for quitting smoking gradually over time [41:35.380 --> 41:37.460] or helping you go cold turkey. [41:37.460 --> 41:39.140] The Quitter app for iPhone tallies [41:39.140 --> 41:41.220] how much money you've saved since putting down [41:41.220 --> 41:42.700] your last cigarette. [41:42.700 --> 41:46.300] And keeping a resolution can require a support system. [41:46.300 --> 41:48.380] I want to try to eat healthier. [41:48.380 --> 41:50.100] We've got to be a role model and show them [41:50.100 --> 41:51.940] more how to eat healthy. [41:51.940 --> 41:54.020] Try posting your goal on social media [41:54.020 --> 41:57.380] so connections can cheer you on. [41:57.380 --> 41:59.780] That was Karen Kaifa reporting. [41:59.780 --> 42:02.620] Some visitors to the Sierra are putting away their skis [42:02.620 --> 42:05.020] and instead taking out their golf clubs. [42:05.020 --> 42:07.220] The National Weather Service says Tahoe [42:07.220 --> 42:10.940] had the eighth driest December since 1903. [42:10.940 --> 42:13.980] Just 3.72 inches of precipitation [42:13.980 --> 42:17.620] fell in the last three months of the year, just 31% [42:17.620 --> 42:19.340] of average precipitation. [42:19.340 --> 42:22.500] In fact, the owner of the old Brockway Golf Club on Tahoe's [42:22.500 --> 42:25.460] normally snowy North Shore says that he's actually [42:25.460 --> 42:28.420] open right now for the first time ever [42:28.420 --> 42:30.300] in his 20 years of business. [42:30.300 --> 42:32.500] It is amazing what a difference a year makes. [42:32.500 --> 42:33.340] Absolutely. [42:33.340 --> 42:35.100] And we were up there last year and there's [42:35.100 --> 42:35.940] just snow everywhere. [42:35.940 --> 42:37.340] Yeah, absolutely. [42:37.340 --> 42:38.900] Well, is it going to change? [42:38.900 --> 42:39.820] That's the question. [42:39.820 --> 42:41.900] KTVU meteorologist Mark Tamayo joins us now [42:41.900 --> 42:43.180] to give us our forecast. [42:43.180 --> 42:45.540] Well, yeah, we have it locked in this dry weather pattern [42:45.540 --> 42:48.860] essentially for over a month now with a few weak systems [42:48.860 --> 42:49.380] moving in. [42:49.380 --> 42:51.260] And unfortunately, no big changes [42:51.260 --> 42:54.420] showing up in the long range weather maps as we begin 2012. [42:54.420 --> 42:55.820] Here's a look at the highs from today. [42:55.820 --> 42:57.180] You can see, look at these 70s. [42:57.180 --> 42:58.540] It is January 1st. [42:58.540 --> 43:01.660] Morgan Hill topped out at 74 degrees. [43:01.660 --> 43:03.940] I will say Santa Cruz also topped out in the lower 70s [43:03.940 --> 43:05.300] as well at 73. [43:05.300 --> 43:07.900] Some patchy fog lingered right around the Concord of Vallejo, [43:07.900 --> 43:10.020] keeping those temperatures in the upper 50s. [43:10.020 --> 43:12.660] But still, at least across most of the Bay Area, [43:12.660 --> 43:14.860] temperatures on the mild side. [43:14.860 --> 43:16.860] This was a time lapse about an hour ago, [43:16.860 --> 43:18.420] looking out toward the Oakley Estuary. [43:18.420 --> 43:20.100] A few high clouds have been increasing. [43:20.100 --> 43:22.700] You can see all the boats coming in from an ice day on the Bay [43:22.700 --> 43:24.660] to celebrate New Year's Day. [43:24.660 --> 43:26.980] As far as overnight lows, starting out tomorrow morning [43:26.980 --> 43:28.580] on the cool side, once again, we're [43:28.580 --> 43:31.700] talking about some 30s showing up in Santa Rosa, Napa, [43:31.700 --> 43:32.900] and also Concord. [43:32.900 --> 43:35.660] Oakland at 42, and San Jose right around 40. [43:35.660 --> 43:36.420] Patchy fog. [43:36.420 --> 43:38.020] Locally dense could return, especially [43:38.020 --> 43:40.180] out toward the inland valleys right around the delta [43:40.180 --> 43:43.500] as well, and up in the North Bay for Santa Rosa. [43:43.500 --> 43:46.180] The bigger perspective in the Pacific, the satellite, [43:46.180 --> 43:47.580] there's actually a storm out here. [43:47.580 --> 43:49.180] But the unfortunate part of that news, [43:49.180 --> 43:51.020] if you want the rain and the snow, [43:51.020 --> 43:52.500] it is heading way up to our north. [43:52.500 --> 43:55.020] So here's the system I am tracking for tomorrow. [43:55.020 --> 43:56.420] The associated cold front will be [43:56.420 --> 43:58.180] approaching northern California. [43:58.180 --> 44:00.820] This will have an impact on our forecast for your Monday, [44:00.820 --> 44:02.900] with partly to mostly cloudy skies, [44:02.900 --> 44:06.820] most areas coming down about 4 to 8 degrees from today's highs. [44:06.820 --> 44:10.140] And there is just a tiny chance, that much of a chance, [44:10.140 --> 44:12.820] of a North Bay sprinkle as we do head into it tomorrow afternoon. [44:12.820 --> 44:15.020] But it looks like the bulk of the shower activity [44:15.020 --> 44:16.020] will be up to our north. [44:16.020 --> 44:17.300] And we're not expecting much. [44:17.300 --> 44:19.380] This is mainly a cloud producer and also [44:19.380 --> 44:20.420] bringing in some cooler air. [44:20.420 --> 44:23.220] In fact, it shows up nicely with the updated forecast model. [44:23.220 --> 44:25.700] Tomorrow morning at 9 o'clock, some cloud cover out there. [44:25.700 --> 44:27.820] You'll notice that rain band from Cape Mendocino [44:27.820 --> 44:30.540] to the north and not drifting too much to the south [44:30.540 --> 44:31.420] by 12 o'clock. [44:31.420 --> 44:32.740] So quite a few clouds. [44:32.740 --> 44:35.700] That's why we do have partly to mostly cloudy skies in the Bay [44:35.700 --> 44:37.940] area forecast for your Monday. [44:37.940 --> 44:39.740] 7 o'clock, definitely want to bundle up [44:39.740 --> 44:41.980] with temperatures in the upper 30s to the upper 40s. [44:41.980 --> 44:44.100] A sun cloud mix by 12 o'clock. [44:44.100 --> 44:45.780] Still quite a few clouds out there. [44:45.780 --> 44:47.900] And then by 3 o'clock, partly cloudy skies, [44:47.900 --> 44:51.540] most areas on either side of 60 degrees for afternoon high. [44:51.540 --> 44:53.700] So Santa Rosa, no longer in the upper 60s. [44:53.700 --> 44:55.180] We're going to put you at 61. [44:55.180 --> 44:56.660] San Francisco, 59. [44:56.660 --> 45:00.340] And San Jose tops out 63 degrees out of the 70s. [45:00.340 --> 45:02.540] And Morgan Hill back down to 65. [45:02.540 --> 45:04.460] Here is, look ahead, your extended forecast. [45:04.460 --> 45:06.460] And you will notice this temperature's, in fact, [45:06.460 --> 45:09.420] warming up a little bit as we do head into Tuesday. [45:09.420 --> 45:11.860] And then also into Wednesday, partly cloudy skies [45:11.860 --> 45:14.740] on Thursday as these very weak systems move up to our north. [45:14.740 --> 45:16.280] With your weekend always in view, [45:16.280 --> 45:18.100] if you're looking for more rain, you're not going to find it [45:18.100 --> 45:19.660] here just yet, with those readings [45:19.660 --> 45:21.380] mainly in the lower 60s. [45:21.380 --> 45:23.860] Heather and Ken, typically when we have a dry period, [45:23.860 --> 45:26.460] we always have the other extreme about two weeks away. [45:26.460 --> 45:29.860] But I can usually always advertise that in the forecast. [45:29.860 --> 45:31.540] But nothing's showing up just yet. [45:31.540 --> 45:32.340] Nothing inside, huh? [45:32.340 --> 45:32.700] Yeah. [45:32.700 --> 45:34.100] And hopefully, maybe things could [45:34.100 --> 45:36.020] change with the updated forecast charts coming [45:36.020 --> 45:37.020] in the next few hours. [45:37.020 --> 45:37.980] All right, Mark, thanks. [45:37.980 --> 45:38.740] Thanks. [45:38.740 --> 45:40.420] Well, Tom Cruise's latest mission [45:40.420 --> 45:42.660] is succeeding at the box office. [45:42.660 --> 45:43.780] Jump now? [45:43.780 --> 45:44.460] Yes. [45:44.460 --> 45:45.220] Commit. [45:45.220 --> 45:46.100] Jump. [45:46.100 --> 45:47.100] Jump. [45:47.100 --> 45:49.260] Mission Impossible Ghost Protocol [45:49.260 --> 45:52.900] has now scaled more than $100 million in US sales, [45:52.900 --> 45:56.180] about $30 million from this final holiday weekend. [45:56.180 --> 45:58.180] The action-packed film is helping Hollywood finish [45:58.180 --> 45:59.940] a tough year on a high note. [45:59.940 --> 46:02.100] Mission was again followed by Sherlock Holmes, [46:02.100 --> 46:05.700] A Game of Shadows, and Alvin and the Chipmunks, Chipwrecked. [46:05.700 --> 46:07.700] Steven Spielberg's new movie, War Horse, [46:07.700 --> 46:08.620] trotted to fourth place. [46:08.620 --> 46:12.780] And the violent thriller Girl with the Dragon Tattoo [46:12.780 --> 46:14.740] is inked in at fifth place. [46:14.740 --> 46:18.060] Well, it is a nail-biter Sunday as teams all around the NFL [46:18.060 --> 46:19.900] battle for final playoff spots. [46:19.900 --> 46:21.420] And that includes the Raiders. [46:21.420 --> 46:24.300] We'll have complete highlights coming up next in Sports Wrap. [48:52.580 --> 48:53.700] Welcome to Sports Wrap. [48:53.700 --> 48:55.620] I think it was a little more entertaining [48:55.620 --> 48:59.060] than anybody who polls for the 49ers wanted it to be. [48:59.060 --> 49:00.580] But the end result? [49:00.580 --> 49:01.860] It fits the wish list. [49:01.860 --> 49:05.180] Victory, a first round by, and no major injuries. [49:05.180 --> 49:06.260] I'll tell you what, though. [49:06.260 --> 49:09.620] San Francisco, they can dish out punishment on defense. [49:09.620 --> 49:11.100] No doubt sending a few of the Rams [49:11.100 --> 49:13.380] into their offseason with some bumps and bruises. [49:13.380 --> 49:16.180] The always punishing Patrick Willis was back. [49:16.180 --> 49:17.100] Bad hamstring. [49:17.100 --> 49:17.740] He's healthy. [49:17.740 --> 49:19.380] Down early, 7-0. [49:19.380 --> 49:20.100] Niners tie it. [49:20.100 --> 49:23.620] Alex Smith got good blocks from Justin Peele and Frank Gore. [49:23.620 --> 49:25.300] He is in from 11 yards out. [49:25.300 --> 49:26.740] We got 7-7. [49:26.740 --> 49:30.100] Just a wee bit later, Smith will zip it to Michael Crabtree. [49:30.100 --> 49:31.860] Want to see why the Rams are so bad? [49:31.860 --> 49:33.540] Yeah, they can't tackle. [49:33.540 --> 49:34.260] That's one thing. [49:34.260 --> 49:36.260] 28 yards, touchdown. [49:36.260 --> 49:37.780] 20 to 7. [49:37.780 --> 49:38.660] Niners at half. [49:38.660 --> 49:40.900] Third quarter, you will see a little trickery here. [49:40.900 --> 49:41.940] The fake field goal. [49:41.940 --> 49:45.900] David Akers lobbing to Michael Crabtree all by his lonesome. [49:45.900 --> 49:47.300] 27-10. [49:47.300 --> 49:48.420] Got to take a look at that. [49:48.420 --> 49:48.780] It's good. [49:48.780 --> 49:50.660] Crabtree, a little sheepish there. [49:50.660 --> 49:51.180] Look at him. [49:51.180 --> 49:51.980] He's out there. [49:51.980 --> 49:54.020] Rams don't happen to notice that. [49:54.020 --> 49:57.140] And Akers, who said he didn't even get to warm his arm up, [49:57.140 --> 49:58.380] lobs it to him perfectly. [49:58.380 --> 50:01.700] 34-13, when Kellen Clemens of the Rams [50:01.700 --> 50:03.900] will loft one deep for the former 49er. [50:03.900 --> 50:07.340] Brandon Lloyd, touchdown, 36 yards. [50:07.340 --> 50:11.660] They add another touchdown after an onside kick was successful. [50:11.660 --> 50:15.180] But Clemens in the late going, sacked by Navarro Bowman. [50:15.180 --> 50:17.180] And that pretty much put an end to the Rams. [50:17.180 --> 50:19.540] 34-27, the final. [50:19.540 --> 50:22.620] Jim Harbaugh and company wrap one up. [50:22.620 --> 50:25.820] One of their best regular seasons ever, too, at 13-3. [50:25.820 --> 50:27.580] And the first round bye. [50:27.580 --> 50:30.020] And they'll finally play at the stick in two weeks. [50:30.020 --> 50:33.620] Meanwhile, with all due respect, if you saw the Raiders, [50:33.620 --> 50:36.060] with everything on the line this afternoon, [50:36.060 --> 50:37.140] there for the taking. [50:37.140 --> 50:40.220] Simply put, they just didn't deserve to be in the playoffs. [50:40.220 --> 50:42.780] The Chargers will move the ball at will [50:42.780 --> 50:46.780] and eventually move the Raiders right on into vacation mode. [50:46.780 --> 50:49.420] Carson Palmer to Darius, Hayward Bay. [50:49.420 --> 50:51.100] That's a nice little fade play. [50:51.100 --> 50:53.460] 7-0, DHB, by the way. [50:53.460 --> 50:55.260] Great game, as you see the catch again. [50:55.260 --> 50:57.260] 9 grabs for him, 130 yards. [50:57.260 --> 50:59.940] The touchdown, San Diego answers back. [50:59.940 --> 51:03.260] Philip Rivers to Antonio Gates. [51:03.260 --> 51:05.820] That was what it was, just a porous defense [51:05.820 --> 51:07.700] by the Raiders all afternoon. [51:07.700 --> 51:10.940] 7-7, now watch this on the kickoff a bit later. [51:10.940 --> 51:13.300] Richard Goodman comes out of the end zone [51:13.300 --> 51:15.980] and nobody will stop him. [51:15.980 --> 51:20.100] He's gone, 105 yard return for the Chargers [51:20.100 --> 51:22.340] and they lead it 24-13 at half. [51:22.340 --> 51:24.460] Still, the Raiders with a great shot [51:24.460 --> 51:26.020] at pulling this ball game out. [51:26.020 --> 51:29.780] In the fourth quarter, Palmer, who threw for 401 yards, [51:29.780 --> 51:32.900] up top for the tight end, Kevin Boss, he's got it. [51:32.900 --> 51:36.020] Touchdown Raiders, they pulled it within 31-26. [51:36.020 --> 51:38.820] Boss shaken up on the play, had to be helped off. [51:38.820 --> 51:41.140] As you see the replay there, he seemed to take a shot [51:41.140 --> 51:42.660] to the back of the neck. [51:42.660 --> 51:47.220] But after that, the kickoff ensues, it's a key play. [51:47.220 --> 51:50.700] Again, Goodman will bobble the ball, [51:50.700 --> 51:52.380] apparently on the goal line. [51:52.380 --> 51:55.460] The Raiders, the fans, everybody thinks that's a safety, [51:55.460 --> 51:58.180] they've got the momentum, the ball and two points. [51:58.180 --> 52:01.420] But the officials, after review, correctly rule [52:01.420 --> 52:04.500] it's a San Diego ball on the half yard line [52:04.500 --> 52:08.060] and dejectedly, the Raiders just give it up. [52:08.060 --> 52:12.140] 99 and a half yard drive, Rivers to Malcolm Floyd [52:12.140 --> 52:16.460] to finish it off and finish off the Raiders, 38-26. [52:16.460 --> 52:19.260] Hugh Jackson is livid, you'll hear from him tonight at 10. [52:19.260 --> 52:21.860] For the second straight year, Raiders finish eight and eight. [52:21.860 --> 52:24.940] Needless to say, this one stings a bit more than last year. [52:24.940 --> 52:27.180] They had the playoffs in their sights. [52:27.180 --> 52:29.820] So after all, it's Tebow time in the playoffs, [52:29.820 --> 52:30.860] although through the back door, [52:30.860 --> 52:33.220] there's a mom, she had a son on both teams. [52:33.220 --> 52:35.660] Chiefs and Broncos, only touchdown of the game. [52:35.660 --> 52:38.460] Dexter McCluster from 21 yards out [52:38.460 --> 52:39.940] will scamper to the end zone. [52:39.940 --> 52:44.100] 7-3, Denver losing, but still winning. [52:45.660 --> 52:50.660] The Jets, meanwhile, had their very verbose coach shut up. [52:50.940 --> 52:53.580] They go home after blowing it against the Dolphins. [52:53.580 --> 52:58.340] Matt Mora tossed to Charles Clay, one yard, 1917 Miami. [52:58.340 --> 53:00.740] And by the way, one of the great careers coming to an end, [53:00.740 --> 53:03.740] Jason Taylor retiring for the Dolphins [53:03.740 --> 53:08.500] after 15 years in the NFL, 13 of them with Miami. [53:08.500 --> 53:11.540] Baltimore, bruising it up with the Bengals, [53:11.540 --> 53:13.620] a low scoring event. [53:13.620 --> 53:17.380] The Baltimore Ravens, they make you pay for everything. [53:17.380 --> 53:19.980] And then Ray Rice on the loose, 70 yards. [53:19.980 --> 53:24.980] Ravens roll 24-16 to wrap up the number two seed in the AFC. [53:25.740 --> 53:29.740] Meanwhile, the Packers and Lions, who needs Aaron Rodgers? [53:29.740 --> 53:32.460] Did you hear about the Packers backup quarterback, [53:32.460 --> 53:33.500] Matt Flynn? [53:33.500 --> 53:35.900] He'll flip a little screen pass here to Ryan Grant. [53:35.900 --> 53:38.620] He'll do the rest, 80 yards. [53:38.620 --> 53:43.020] And by the way, Flynn, six touchdown passes. [53:43.020 --> 53:44.820] That's a Packer record. [53:44.820 --> 53:49.260] Rodgers, Brett Farr, this kid's got the record, 45-41. [53:49.260 --> 53:51.820] Packers lose only once in the regular season. [53:51.820 --> 53:54.620] The Saints are the three seed in the NFC, [53:54.620 --> 53:57.220] and they do look as though they're peaking right now. [53:57.220 --> 53:59.460] They're just rolling big time on offense. [53:59.460 --> 54:03.660] 17-all Carolina, Drew Brees flips for Marcus Colston, [54:03.660 --> 54:06.500] 42 yards, Brees on the beam again. [54:06.500 --> 54:10.340] Touchdown, Saints big time, 45-17. [54:10.340 --> 54:12.180] Took the Patriots a while to heat it up, [54:12.180 --> 54:13.980] looking to lock up the home field advantage [54:13.980 --> 54:16.060] for the postseason in the AFC. [54:16.060 --> 54:20.900] Down 21-zip to Buffalo, early Tom Brady loves his tight end. [54:20.900 --> 54:23.780] Rob Gronkowski, 49-21 final. [54:23.780 --> 54:27.780] Brady on the day, 338 yards passing and three touchdowns. [54:27.780 --> 54:29.220] Fill out the rest of the NFL [54:29.220 --> 54:31.140] on this final day of the regular season. [54:31.140 --> 54:33.020] Tennessee not going to the playoffs, [54:33.020 --> 54:34.340] even with their win. [54:34.340 --> 54:37.140] The Bengals lose, and they get there anyway [54:37.140 --> 54:39.380] through a convoluted circumstance. [54:39.380 --> 54:40.860] Meanwhile, in other games, [54:40.860 --> 54:43.060] Pittsburgh on the long end against Cleveland. [54:43.060 --> 54:44.220] Looked like a boring one there. [54:44.220 --> 54:46.980] Colts lose again, securing the number one pick [54:46.980 --> 54:48.180] in this spring's draft. [54:48.180 --> 54:51.020] Atlanta clobbers Tampa, the Bucs quit weeks. [54:51.980 --> 54:55.140] Michael Vick throws for three TDs, 335 yards. [54:55.140 --> 54:58.380] The Eagles roll, but they go home. [54:58.380 --> 55:01.820] The Bears win, but they are done, as is Minnesota. [55:01.820 --> 55:03.900] And in overtime, it was Arizona, [55:03.900 --> 55:05.860] a field goal better than Seattle. [55:05.860 --> 55:08.300] Great one this evening, the NFC East at stake. [55:08.300 --> 55:09.660] Win, and you're in. [55:09.660 --> 55:12.940] Dallas and the Giants, no score yet [55:12.940 --> 55:14.620] at the medal rounds from that one. [55:14.620 --> 55:16.780] The second half of Sports Wrap just ahead, [55:16.780 --> 55:19.180] and it looks like a former playoff hero, [55:19.180 --> 55:20.900] we're talking baseball here, [55:20.900 --> 55:23.540] might be making the commute across the Bay Bridge [55:23.540 --> 55:25.460] to the east side of the Bay. [55:25.460 --> 55:27.540] A little NBA stuff to talk about [55:27.540 --> 55:32.540] when we come back to Sports Wrap part two next. [55:57.660 --> 56:00.020] This year, I decided to spare no expense [56:00.020 --> 56:01.500] for our holiday dinner. [56:01.500 --> 56:04.660] So I hired renowned chef Gordon Ramsay. [56:04.660 --> 56:07.140] Oh, come on, it's disgusting. [56:07.140 --> 56:08.420] And you, what are you doing? [56:08.420 --> 56:10.060] It's raw, you idiot. [56:10.060 --> 56:11.780] Is this your first day? [56:11.780 --> 56:13.540] Congratulations, it's your last. [56:13.540 --> 56:14.620] Get out of here. [56:14.620 --> 56:16.500] At a time when it's easy to go overboard. [56:16.500 --> 56:17.820] Happy holidays. [56:17.820 --> 56:18.820] Happy holidays. [56:18.820 --> 56:19.820] Happy holidays. [56:19.820 --> 56:20.820] Happy holidays. [56:20.820 --> 56:21.820] Happy holidays. [56:21.820 --> 56:22.820] Happy holidays. [56:22.820 --> 56:23.820] Happy holidays. [57:39.740 --> 57:41.420] Certainly mixed messages with the news [57:41.420 --> 57:43.900] now that they're interested in outfielder Cody Ross. [57:43.900 --> 57:46.780] Oakland reportedly in talks with the former giant Ross [57:46.780 --> 57:49.700] who overpriced himself in the early stages of the winter, [57:49.700 --> 57:52.540] asking for a three-year deal, now getting some nibbles. [57:52.540 --> 57:54.580] Ross, who caught lightning in a bottle [57:54.580 --> 57:57.980] in the 2010 postseason, apparently has lowered his demands [57:57.980 --> 58:02.860] after an extremely disappointing 2011 season with the Giants [58:02.860 --> 58:04.860] when he hit only 240.
