[00:04.760 --> 00:10.000] The Bay Area's major news of the day. Frank Somerville, Julie Hanger, the 10 o'clock news [00:10.000 --> 00:18.480] on KTVU Channel 10. Complete Bay Area news coverage. [00:18.480 --> 00:23.920] Occupy Oakland and Oscar Grant supporters joined forces today to make a point, but will [00:23.920 --> 00:31.820] the alliance be lifelong or grow uneasy as 2012 unfolds? Cell phone video shows the ferocious [00:31.820 --> 00:36.880] flames they consumed a house just minutes into the new year. And a new year means new [00:36.880 --> 00:43.240] laws will tell you which ones could impact you the most. Complete Bay Area news coverage [00:43.240 --> 00:50.160] starts right now. This is KTVU Channel 2 News at 5. Good evening, I'm Ken Pritchett [00:50.160 --> 00:55.520] in tonight for Ken Wayne. And I'm Heather Holmes. A rally today to mark the third anniversary [00:55.520 --> 01:00.800] of the death of a man shot and killed by bar police. Today's demonstration honored passenger [01:00.800 --> 01:06.720] Oscar Grant, but it also was a rallying point for the waning Occupy movement. KTVU's Patty [01:06.720 --> 01:12.200] Lee was with marchers today who tell her they have plans for the new year. Patty? Well, [01:12.200 --> 01:16.880] more than 120 protesters marched for an hour and a half to get here from Frankelgawa Plaza. [01:16.880 --> 01:21.120] Now, the vigil is ending just about now. Behind that kiosk, you can see folks are starting [01:21.120 --> 01:26.440] to leave and to get onto buses. Now, today's events were organized by both the Oscar Grant [01:26.440 --> 01:34.640] committee and by Occupy Oakland. If you don't care, say bye to the people. Three years after [01:34.640 --> 01:40.320] he was shot and killed by a Bart police officer, Oscar Grant has become a martyr of sorts for [01:40.320 --> 01:46.400] the Occupy Oakland movement. Where the Occupy and Oscar Grant issues overlap is around police [01:46.400 --> 01:55.560] brutality. More than 120 protesters gathered to remember grant at Frankelgawa Plaza this [01:55.560 --> 02:01.360] afternoon before marching to the Fruitvale barge station where Grant unarmed hands behind [02:01.360 --> 02:08.040] his back was killed New Year's Day 2009. There's real emotional for me because earlier Oscar [02:08.040 --> 02:14.640] Grant's family gathered there for a private memorial service. It's a day for us to remember [02:14.640 --> 02:20.160] Oscar and to not forget what happened to him. Grant's mother says Oscar's legacy lies in [02:20.160 --> 02:25.240] ending police brutality and holding officers accountable for their actions. As for the [02:25.240 --> 02:31.480] legacy of Occupy Oakland undetermined, I feel that there's a lot of different people rallying [02:31.480 --> 02:35.800] for different things in the Occupy movement. Grant's family says the groups may not be [02:35.800 --> 02:42.920] entirely in sync, but it is grateful for Occupy support. I want to keep Oscar's name and memory [02:42.920 --> 02:48.400] alive as long as we can. But others in the grant camp are worried that if the Occupy [02:48.400 --> 02:53.440] Oakland movement embraces civil disobedience in the year ahead, it may dilute the message [02:53.440 --> 02:59.040] they share. They're not supposed to be doing things that's upsetting and disrupting everyone [02:59.040 --> 03:05.840] else. Oscar isn't about that. And if they want to use his name, then they need to be [03:05.840 --> 03:12.880] doing the correct thing. Occupy Oakland organizers say they do have some New Year's resolutions. [03:12.880 --> 03:18.380] One of which is to occupy a building this month so they can stop being harassed at their [03:18.380 --> 03:24.080] outdoor encampment. Reporting live in Oakland, Patty Lee, KTVU, Channel 2 News. Violence [03:24.080 --> 03:29.480] marred New Year's in Oakland as police responded to gunfire on 14th and Franklin streets this [03:29.480 --> 03:33.960] morning. When police arrived around 2 a.m., they found a woman with a gunshot wound to [03:33.960 --> 03:38.820] her hand. As they investigated the shooting, a car drove up with another woman who had [03:38.820 --> 03:43.560] been shot in her leg. Police say the shootings are unrelated. Both women are being treated [03:43.560 --> 03:48.680] at the hospital. No arrests have been made in either shooting. Oakland police announced [03:48.680 --> 03:54.200] a $5,000 reward this afternoon for information on the shooter who fatally wounded a 5-year-old [03:54.200 --> 04:00.020] boy on International Boulevard Friday night. Gabriel Martinez Jr. was outside his family's [04:00.020 --> 04:05.520] taco truck on 54th Avenue when a man ordered some food and then turned around and sprayed [04:05.520 --> 04:11.480] the truck with gunfire. The suspect then drove away in a silver Pontiac with a female passenger. [04:11.480 --> 04:16.800] Oakland's homicide total last year rose for the first time in four years. The city's official [04:16.800 --> 04:24.800] count for 2011 is 103 homicides. That's 11 more than in 2010. 5-year-old Gabriel Martinez [04:24.800 --> 04:31.140] was the third young child killed by gunfire in Oakland in 2011. 3-year-old Carlos Nava [04:31.140 --> 04:37.840] and 23-year-old Hiram Lawrence Jr. were also shot and killed. Petaluma police have identified [04:37.840 --> 04:43.680] an alleged drunk driver suspected of hitting a 15-year-old boy who was at a crosswalk. [04:43.680 --> 04:48.520] Investigators say 20-year-old Wesley Pickford of Novato failed to stop at East Washington [04:48.520 --> 04:53.980] and Edith Streets, striking the teen in the crosswalk there around 1230 a.m. The boy is [04:53.980 --> 04:58.840] listed in stable condition but with serious injuries. Pickford was booked into the Sonoma [04:58.840 --> 05:06.720] County Jail on $30,000 bail. The CHP is reporting two fatal DUI-related crashes in the Bay [05:06.720 --> 05:11.680] Area so far this New Year's holiday weekend. That's actually down from four fatalities [05:11.680 --> 05:18.800] for the same time last year. The number of DUI arrests is up with a total of 161 arrests [05:18.800 --> 05:24.140] compared to 124 last year. Those numbers though are expected to rise when the CHP releases [05:24.140 --> 05:30.480] the totals from its maximum enforcement effort which ends Monday at midnight. Now to the [05:30.480 --> 05:35.240] South Bay where a family there is starting the New Year in temporary housing. After a [05:35.240 --> 05:40.480] 3-alarm fire gutted the historic San Jose home they lived in less than an hour into [05:40.480 --> 05:45.720] the New Year. Katie's Maureen Naylor obtained cell phone video showing the challenge firefighters [05:45.720 --> 05:50.480] faced. It's gone. Everything is gone my whole life. Elizabeth Suarez never thought she'd [05:50.480 --> 05:55.720] start 2012 barefoot outside the historic downtown San Jose house she's rented for the past five [05:55.720 --> 06:03.280] years. No shoes, no nothing. I mean I got nothing. I don't have my purse, my ID, nothing. [06:03.280 --> 06:07.480] Everything's just gone. Everything she says but this basket of laundry. Firefighters are [06:07.480 --> 06:11.920] still investigating what caused the fire at this Victorian home just 50 minutes into the [06:11.920 --> 06:16.860] New Year. A neighbor shot this cell phone video showing flames consuming the attic and [06:16.860 --> 06:22.200] first floor. Suarez says she, her two teenage children and a friend were sleeping inside [06:22.200 --> 06:26.800] when the smoke detector went off. It started in my son's room because my friend woke us [06:26.800 --> 06:31.720] up and said he smelled smoke and that's when the smoke came in and then we opened the door [06:31.720 --> 06:35.520] and flames were just all over the place and I just immediately got my kids up it's get [06:35.520 --> 06:40.120] up get up those are fire. They were fighting a difficult battle from the start. Difficult [06:40.120 --> 06:45.080] fire captain Rob Brown says because these historic homes often lack fire breaks. When [06:45.080 --> 06:48.280] we get fires like this we can end up with fire in the basement and the attic and the [06:48.280 --> 06:53.000] fire floor within minutes. Everyone escaped safely but the home on North Fifth Street [06:53.000 --> 06:57.680] which is part of San Jose's Hensley Historic District was severely damaged. It's sad I [06:57.680 --> 07:03.320] mean basically we lose these by fire that's about the you know unfortunately they're protected [07:03.320 --> 07:07.920] but you can't protect them from fire. Firefighters estimate the damage of at least a half a million [07:07.920 --> 07:11.760] dollars. The family says the Red Cross is putting them up for a few days until they [07:11.760 --> 07:16.480] can figure out where they're going to live next. In San Jose Maureen Naylor KTVU Channel [07:16.480 --> 07:22.200] 2 News. It is a new year and with that come several new laws for California. Whether it's [07:22.200 --> 07:27.720] how you buckle up your kids in the car or what types of treatment medical insurance [07:27.720 --> 07:33.040] must cover. There is a good chance one of these new laws will apply to you. Now KTVU's [07:33.040 --> 07:38.280] Claudine Wong will detail some of those new laws coming up later in the newscast. The [07:38.280 --> 07:43.080] squirrel monkey named Banana Sam is back in his enclosure at the San Francisco Zoo this [07:43.080 --> 07:48.280] evening. The 17 year old squirrel monkey was found yesterday afternoon by a man in Sterngrove [07:48.280 --> 07:55.160] Park about a mile from the zoo. The unidentified man coaxed the tiny monkey back into his backpack [07:55.160 --> 07:59.520] and then that man called police who took him to the zoo. Officials there say the monkey [07:59.520 --> 08:05.080] was scared and hungry but otherwise healthy. Banana Sam was either taken or escaped from [08:05.080 --> 08:09.720] his enclosure on Thursday night after someone cut the fencing. The man who found the monkey [08:09.720 --> 08:15.320] was questioned and is not considered a suspect. Well it may be January 1st but it didn't feel [08:15.320 --> 08:20.040] much like winter today across the Bay Area. Christy Field in San Francisco was just one [08:20.040 --> 08:24.760] of the many places where people went for a walk, run or plate fetch with their dog wearing [08:24.760 --> 08:29.480] only short sleeves, maybe even a light jacket. Temperatures across the Bay Area were as much [08:29.480 --> 08:35.400] as 10 degrees above average today and we've seen less than half the normal rainfall for [08:35.400 --> 08:39.960] the season. With more on our very mild and dry weather we go to our meteorologist Mark [08:39.960 --> 08:43.880] Tamayo. Mark? Heather, in fact we're taking a live look outside right now looking out [08:43.880 --> 08:47.520] toward the beautiful San Francisco Bay. The high clouds have been increasing over the [08:47.520 --> 08:51.520] past few hours and those clouds will be a factor as we do head into it tomorrow but [08:51.520 --> 08:57.200] most of the Bay Area warmed up into the 60s this afternoon, mid and upper 60s. As the [08:57.200 --> 09:01.360] high clouds spill into the region, temperatures will be cooling off back down into the 30s [09:01.360 --> 09:05.840] and 40s. As you can pick out on Livestorm Tracker 2 on the satellite, we can't show [09:05.840 --> 09:09.960] you this as we do take a look at our next source. There you can pick out on Livestorm [09:09.960 --> 09:14.360] Tracker 2. Just a few high clouds approaching Cape Mendocino and the bulk of the moisture [09:14.360 --> 09:18.560] out here in the Pacific. There is a very weak weather system approaching our coastline that [09:18.560 --> 09:23.680] will have an effect on our forecast for tomorrow. With that, we do bring in just a slight chance [09:23.680 --> 09:27.600] of some drizzle up in the North Bay or a few sprinkles but we should be cooling things [09:27.600 --> 09:32.200] off as we do head into your Monday. As far as this rain free weather, I'll let you know [09:32.200 --> 09:35.880] if we have any rain clouds coming up in that five day forecast and your full update in [09:35.880 --> 09:40.440] just a few minutes. Alright, thanks Mark. Well today and tomorrow are spare the air [09:40.440 --> 09:45.340] days which means of course wood burning is banned. The Bay Area Air Quality District [09:45.340 --> 09:49.900] says the lack of wind is creating unhealthy air which can be problematic for those with [09:49.900 --> 09:55.600] breathing problems. Now tomorrow's spare the air day will be the 12th this season compared [09:55.600 --> 10:01.920] to 4 last season. Tens of thousands of people rang in New Year along San Francisco's Embarcadero [10:01.920 --> 10:11.280] this morning. The chilly temperatures didn't keep people away from the open air party with [10:11.280 --> 10:16.720] many dressed in warm jackets and others with top hats and tuxedos. Many revelers found [10:16.720 --> 10:22.400] it hard to move through the crowd as the clock approached midnight. Taxis and public transit [10:22.400 --> 10:33.440] ran into the early morning hours getting people back home. Hundreds of thousands crowded into [10:33.440 --> 10:39.640] New York's Times Square to watch the ball drop. The party left plenty of work for 149 [10:39.640 --> 10:45.040] sanitation workers who converged on the area this morning picking up 50 tons of party hats, [10:45.040 --> 10:52.200] empty containers and confetti with 22 trucks, 24 sweepers and 37 backpack blowers. Well [10:52.200 --> 10:56.720] the stroke of midnight rang in more than the New Year for one San Lorenzo family. It also [10:56.720 --> 11:02.600] brought them their first baby girl. May we introduce you now to little Sofia Trageros. [11:02.600 --> 11:06.780] According to those at Eden Medical Center in Castro Valley, Sofia is the first baby [11:06.780 --> 11:12.760] born in the Bay Area in 2012. Amelia Trageros says Sofia wasn't actually due until January [11:12.760 --> 11:18.000] 3rd but around 5.30 last night she went into labor and the family had their fingers crossed [11:18.000 --> 11:22.680] that baby would wait until midnight. She gets to count down to her birthday every year. [11:22.680 --> 11:27.480] She's going to think all the fireworks are for her. And they are for her right? Sofia [11:27.480 --> 11:32.160] weighed in at seven pounds five ounces and was a little more than 19 inches long and [11:32.160 --> 11:37.920] when Sofia goes home she will be greeted by four older brothers. Police in Washington [11:37.920 --> 11:42.600] State are looking for a gunman who shot and killed a park ranger on Mount Rainier also [11:42.600 --> 11:48.120] ahead. It will be a restless night for some people living in the L.A. area as the community [11:48.120 --> 11:54.800] braces for more arses. Also the final push is now underway in Iowa as GOP hopefuls stuff [11:54.800 --> 11:59.640] for votes ahead of Tuesday's caucuses. And new figures are out on just how much money [11:59.640 --> 12:16.480] was lost in the Bay Area housing market. [12:16.480 --> 12:31.520] In [12:31.520 --> 12:32.520] January. [12:32.520 --> 12:35.760] So hurry to your California Ford dealer. [12:35.760 --> 12:38.640] Find your magic at Macy's New Year's sale. [13:43.920 --> 13:45.760] A home. [13:45.760 --> 13:48.440] Let me come home. [13:48.440 --> 13:52.160] Home is whenever I'm with you. [13:52.160 --> 13:55.840] Wonder what you'll sound like in a Hyundai. [13:55.840 --> 13:58.280] Now you can lease the 2012 Santa Fe [13:58.280 --> 14:01.800] for just $2.69 a month during Hyundai holidays, [14:01.800 --> 14:04.320] but only at your Bay Area Hyundai dealers. [14:07.520 --> 14:09.320] A manhunt is underway at this hour [14:09.320 --> 14:11.040] on Washington's Mount Rainier [14:11.040 --> 14:14.400] after a gunman shot and killed a park ranger. [14:14.400 --> 14:16.160] The gunman is believed to be somewhere [14:16.160 --> 14:18.480] in the expansive national park. [14:18.480 --> 14:20.760] Authorities say around 10.30 this morning, [14:20.760 --> 14:23.200] a ranger tried to pull over the suspect, [14:23.200 --> 14:26.280] a suspect rather, for a routine traffic stop. [14:26.280 --> 14:28.160] But when the driver didn't stop, [14:28.160 --> 14:30.960] 34-year-old park ranger Margaret Anderson [14:30.960 --> 14:33.200] set up her vehicle as a roadblock. [14:33.200 --> 14:35.360] When the suspect arrived at the roadblock, [14:35.360 --> 14:38.720] he got out of his car and shot and killed Anderson. [14:38.720 --> 14:41.120] Police and firefighters in the Los Angeles area [14:41.120 --> 14:45.240] are on high alert tonight as they deal with 39 arsons. [14:45.240 --> 14:48.760] This car fire in West Hollywood was one of seven new fires [14:48.760 --> 14:50.520] that broke out just overnight. [14:50.520 --> 14:52.240] The car fires have often spread [14:52.240 --> 14:54.240] to nearby apartment complexes [14:54.240 --> 14:57.720] and heavily damaged a home once owned by Jim Morrison. [14:57.720 --> 15:00.480] Since the arson outbreak began late Thursday, [15:00.480 --> 15:02.640] authorities have been working round the clock [15:02.640 --> 15:05.040] to try to find the fire bug. [15:05.040 --> 15:07.440] The acts we've seen over the last 72 hours [15:07.440 --> 15:09.000] here in these communities have kept [15:09.000 --> 15:10.680] these public safety professionals up at night [15:10.680 --> 15:12.480] and working tirelessly. [15:12.480 --> 15:15.120] Since December 30th, the Los Angeles Fire Department alone [15:15.120 --> 15:19.040] has responded to over 3,300 calls for service in the city. [15:20.200 --> 15:22.800] A white male in his mid-30s with a ponytail [15:22.800 --> 15:25.760] was spotted by a parking garage security camera, [15:25.760 --> 15:28.880] but it is unclear tonight if he is the sole arsonist [15:28.880 --> 15:32.480] or if some of those fires are being set now by copycats. [15:32.480 --> 15:35.080] California faces new budget woes this year [15:35.080 --> 15:38.280] as $1 billion in automatic cuts are triggered [15:38.280 --> 15:41.520] by a shortfall in last year's tax revenue. [15:41.520 --> 15:43.880] Most of those cuts will come out of higher education, [15:43.880 --> 15:47.920] but already hit hard by a 16% drop in overall state spending [15:47.920 --> 15:49.520] since the start of the recession. [15:49.520 --> 15:51.680] Governor Brown is proposing a ballot measure [15:51.680 --> 15:54.280] that would raise $7 billion a year [15:54.280 --> 15:57.320] by raising state income taxes on the wealthy [15:57.320 --> 15:59.800] and increasing the sales tax on everyone else. [15:59.800 --> 16:02.720] If nothing is done, California will face [16:02.720 --> 16:06.880] another $13 billion in cuts over the next year and a half. [16:06.880 --> 16:11.080] Exxon has won a large award in a dispute with Venezuela. [16:11.080 --> 16:14.440] Back in 2007, President Hugo Chavez's government [16:14.440 --> 16:18.480] nationalized a reserve that contained an Exxon oil project. [16:18.480 --> 16:20.320] Well today, the oil company announced [16:20.320 --> 16:22.280] the International Chamber of Commerce [16:22.280 --> 16:25.760] awarded it nearly $908 million. [16:25.760 --> 16:28.480] The Commerce body found Venezuela's state oil company [16:28.480 --> 16:30.600] was liable for that takeover. [16:30.600 --> 16:34.160] Venezuela has not commented yet on the award to Exxon. [16:36.200 --> 16:38.760] Republicans hoping to win the Iowa caucus [16:38.760 --> 16:40.200] took to the airwaves today, [16:40.200 --> 16:43.080] making their final case before Tuesday's vote. [16:43.080 --> 16:45.120] Also today, a newspaper endorsement [16:45.120 --> 16:48.560] supported Mitt Romney's narrow lead in the polls. [16:48.560 --> 16:50.600] But the final results are up for grabs, [16:50.600 --> 16:53.400] with many Iowa voters still undecided. [16:53.400 --> 16:57.040] Reporter Barbara Hall has the latest on the campaign trail. [16:57.040 --> 16:58.840] A political fight to the finish line [16:58.840 --> 17:02.680] before the first real voting of the 2012 presidential race. [17:02.680 --> 17:04.320] The latest Des Moines Register poll [17:04.320 --> 17:07.680] shows Mitt Romney and Ron Paul neck and neck. [17:07.680 --> 17:10.400] Paul says his campaign is picking up momentum. [17:10.400 --> 17:12.160] We're doing very, very well, [17:12.160 --> 17:15.920] and people should just be a little bit patient. [17:15.920 --> 17:17.520] On Tuesday, we're gonna find out a lot more [17:17.520 --> 17:19.040] about the future of this election. [17:19.040 --> 17:22.640] Rival Mitt Romney is narrowly leading among caucus goers. [17:22.640 --> 17:24.720] On Sunday, he picked up another endorsement [17:24.720 --> 17:27.760] from Iowa newspaper, The Quad City Times. [17:27.760 --> 17:30.560] Former Senator Rick Santorum of Pennsylvania [17:30.560 --> 17:32.680] rounded out the top three in the poll. [17:32.680 --> 17:35.040] My surge is gonna come on January 3rd, [17:35.040 --> 17:37.200] after the people of Iowa do what they do, [17:37.200 --> 17:39.320] which is actually analyze the candidates, [17:39.320 --> 17:41.200] figure out where their positions are, [17:41.200 --> 17:43.240] find out who's the right leader, [17:43.240 --> 17:45.560] who's got what it takes to defeat Barack Obama [17:45.560 --> 17:47.240] and to lead this country. [17:47.240 --> 17:49.280] Iowa's governor seems to agree. [17:49.280 --> 17:52.880] My goal as governor, unite the Republican Party, [17:52.880 --> 17:56.880] attract the independents, and defeat Obama. [17:56.880 --> 17:58.600] We launched him, we wanna sink him. [17:58.600 --> 18:00.400] Also on the campaign trail Sunday, [18:00.400 --> 18:01.760] Newt Gingrich, Rick Perry, [18:01.760 --> 18:04.000] and Michelle Bachman's dumping in Iowa, [18:04.000 --> 18:06.720] while John Huntsman focuses on New Hampshire, [18:06.720 --> 18:09.920] which votes a week after the Iowa caucus. [18:09.920 --> 18:12.440] I'm Barbara Hull reporting. [18:12.440 --> 18:14.160] And as the presidential race heats up, [18:14.160 --> 18:16.520] you could be asked to share your opinion. [18:16.520 --> 18:19.560] The non-profit, non-partisan Pew Research Center [18:19.560 --> 18:21.880] is one of the largest pollsters in the nation. [18:21.880 --> 18:24.560] And while many people say they don't have time for a poll, [18:24.560 --> 18:26.560] some question why they've never been asked [18:26.560 --> 18:28.080] for their opinion. [18:28.080 --> 18:33.080] There are 220 or 30 million adults in the United States. [18:33.120 --> 18:36.200] Our typical survey will interview 1,500. [18:36.200 --> 18:37.720] Even over the course of a year, [18:37.720 --> 18:41.240] the chance that we would call any given individual [18:41.240 --> 18:44.880] is only about one in 150,000. [18:44.880 --> 18:47.800] Callers are never told who is actually conducting the poll [18:47.800 --> 18:49.800] to prevent the survey from being influenced [18:49.800 --> 18:52.600] by partisan feelings of either the poll takers [18:52.600 --> 18:54.640] or those who answer the poll. [18:54.640 --> 18:56.480] Authorities at Kennedy Airport in New York [18:56.480 --> 18:58.400] arrested a college student from China, [18:58.400 --> 19:01.920] who they say tried to bring a stun gun on board a plane. [19:01.920 --> 19:04.320] The TSA says a screener noticed something [19:04.320 --> 19:06.840] looking like a flashlight in the woman's luggage. [19:06.840 --> 19:08.200] Upon further inspection, [19:08.200 --> 19:10.520] the screener saw that it was a stun gun. [19:10.520 --> 19:13.040] The college student told reporters she pleaded not guilty [19:13.040 --> 19:15.960] and believes her case will result in a fine. [19:17.120 --> 19:20.080] A member of the US military is in custody tonight, [19:20.080 --> 19:21.600] facing charges of attempting [19:21.600 --> 19:24.000] to bring explosives onto an airplane. [19:24.000 --> 19:27.080] The FBI says 30-year-old Trey Scott Atwater [19:27.080 --> 19:30.160] was stopped Saturday at a security checkpoint [19:30.160 --> 19:32.440] at Midland Airport in Texas. [19:32.440 --> 19:35.120] Searchers say they found explosives in his bag [19:35.120 --> 19:38.840] in what are being called military-grade wrappings. [19:38.840 --> 19:41.600] Atwater is stationed at Fort Bragg in North Carolina [19:41.600 --> 19:43.720] and was in Midland visiting family. [19:43.720 --> 19:45.960] His arraignment is set for Tuesday. [19:45.960 --> 19:48.040] Air travel fatalities worldwide [19:48.040 --> 19:50.000] fell dramatically last year. [19:50.000 --> 19:51.640] There were 401 deaths [19:51.640 --> 19:54.600] on commercial and charter aircraft in 2011, [19:54.600 --> 19:58.040] compared to 726 in 2010. [19:58.040 --> 19:59.840] Now excluding acts of terrorism, [19:59.840 --> 20:02.280] the number of air travel-related fatalities [20:02.280 --> 20:04.960] has fallen steadily since 1990, [20:04.960 --> 20:07.720] with airline experts crediting better pilot training [20:07.720 --> 20:09.240] and safer airplanes. [20:09.240 --> 20:11.440] British aviation research company Ascent [20:11.440 --> 20:14.120] says your odds of dying on a commercial flight [20:14.120 --> 20:16.440] are one in seven million. [20:16.440 --> 20:18.920] New figures out today show how hard the recession [20:18.920 --> 20:21.280] has hit the Bay Area housing market. [20:21.280 --> 20:24.000] In an analysis for the San Jose Mercury News, [20:24.000 --> 20:26.000] DataQuick reports that local homes [20:26.000 --> 20:28.720] lost more than a third of a trillion dollars [20:28.720 --> 20:30.440] during the past four years. [20:30.440 --> 20:34.640] Homes in Oakland lost an average of $350,000. [20:34.640 --> 20:38.240] In Concord, the average loss was 289,000, [20:38.240 --> 20:43.240] with 267,000 in San Jose and 205,000 in San Francisco. [20:44.320 --> 20:48.880] Home equity loans have dropped about 90% since 2007. [20:48.880 --> 20:51.240] NASA says two identical probes [20:51.240 --> 20:52.920] are now circling the moon. [20:52.920 --> 20:56.240] The two spacecraft are part of a mission called GRAIL, [20:56.240 --> 21:00.360] short for Gravity Recovery and Interior Laboratory. [21:00.360 --> 21:03.240] They were designed to map the moon's gravity field [21:03.240 --> 21:05.160] in an effort to understand [21:05.160 --> 21:07.160] what is below the moon's surface. [21:07.160 --> 21:09.600] NASA engineers plan to maneuver the two orbiters [21:09.600 --> 21:13.920] closer to the moon and start the mapping in March. [21:13.920 --> 21:16.720] Some occupied protesters are facing charges here, [21:16.720 --> 21:17.840] what they are accused of, [21:17.840 --> 21:20.880] and why some fellow activists are distancing themselves. [21:20.880 --> 21:22.920] Also ahead, here, what's behind [21:22.920 --> 21:25.600] new missile testing today in Iran. [21:25.600 --> 21:27.440] Also coming up, we will have details [21:27.440 --> 21:29.320] on a new program for veterans [21:29.320 --> 21:32.240] that makes the transition from combat to the classroom [21:32.240 --> 21:33.200] a little easier. [21:33.200 --> 21:35.600] You and 19 of your friends can win tickets [21:35.600 --> 21:37.000] to the Alcatraz Premier Party, [21:37.000 --> 21:39.000] January 11th on Alcatraz Island. [24:05.600 --> 24:06.760] See your Lexus dealer. [24:08.880 --> 24:10.180] In news of the world tonight, [24:10.180 --> 24:12.520] in Iran today, state television aired video [24:12.520 --> 24:16.820] of an Iranian Navy ship test firing a surface-to-air missile [24:16.820 --> 24:19.520] during a drill near the Strait of Hormuz. [24:19.520 --> 24:22.280] A leading Iranian lawmaker said the drill is practiced [24:22.280 --> 24:23.900] for closing the waterway [24:23.900 --> 24:26.720] if the West blocks Iran's oil sales. [24:26.720 --> 24:29.620] Also today, Iran's nuclear agency claimed workers [24:29.620 --> 24:33.680] have made and tested the first nuclear fuel rod. [24:33.680 --> 24:36.000] Now this news comes a day after Iran called [24:36.000 --> 24:39.640] for a new round of talks about its nuclear program. [24:39.640 --> 24:42.800] In Syria today, Arab League monitors remained in the country [24:42.800 --> 24:44.640] despite calls for them to leave [24:44.640 --> 24:46.880] from inside the Arab League itself. [24:46.880 --> 24:49.560] The head of an advisory panel said the monitors [24:49.560 --> 24:52.640] are instead giving Syrian President Assad a cover [24:52.640 --> 24:55.860] to allow his forces to continue killing civilians. [24:55.860 --> 24:59.020] The monitors are supposed to be ensuring Syria complies [24:59.020 --> 25:00.960] with terms of the Arab League's plan [25:00.960 --> 25:03.920] to end the nine-month-old crackdown on dissent [25:03.920 --> 25:05.680] that has not yet happened. [25:05.680 --> 25:08.560] And in England today, nine-year-old Prince Philip [25:08.560 --> 25:10.800] was seen by the public for the first time [25:10.800 --> 25:13.020] since his emergency heart surgery. [25:13.020 --> 25:15.040] Doctors implanted a coronary stent [25:15.040 --> 25:17.960] after the prince went to a hospital with chest pains. [25:17.960 --> 25:20.420] The queen's husband walked about 400 yards today [25:20.420 --> 25:22.440] to attend New Year's Day services. [25:22.440 --> 25:25.880] His wife, Queen Elizabeth, rode that distance in a limousine. [25:25.880 --> 25:28.440] Men and women returning from wars overseas [25:28.440 --> 25:31.760] are coming home to a weak economy and high unemployment. [25:31.760 --> 25:33.920] Those who choose to go to college, however, [25:33.920 --> 25:35.300] will have some help. [25:35.300 --> 25:39.440] Reporter Anita Vogel talked to one veteran injured in Iraq [25:39.440 --> 25:41.800] who was getting help to go to college. [25:41.800 --> 25:44.560] Biggest thing was the economy took a dump on me [25:44.560 --> 25:46.120] right when I was getting out of the service. [25:46.120 --> 25:48.600] But California's Veterans Affairs Department [25:48.600 --> 25:51.880] is simplifying the transition from combat [25:51.880 --> 25:53.240] to the classroom. [25:53.240 --> 25:56.560] After signing up, vets get an email list of colleges [25:56.560 --> 26:00.040] in their zip code, along with financial aid information. [26:00.040 --> 26:02.680] Much of their application is even filled out for them [26:02.680 --> 26:05.200] using data from their military forms, [26:05.200 --> 26:09.000] making it easier for vets like Ariza to get the ball rolling. [26:09.000 --> 26:11.160] I was a little lost at first and afraid to do it. [26:11.160 --> 26:14.200] I wanted to go to school, but just did not [26:14.200 --> 26:17.000] know how to even make the first step, even applying [26:17.000 --> 26:17.800] for school. [26:17.800 --> 26:19.000] That's changing. [26:19.000 --> 26:20.880] And California hopes it will become [26:20.880 --> 26:24.760] a model for other states to help vets with their first steps [26:24.760 --> 26:26.680] back into civilian life. [26:26.680 --> 26:29.400] Our veterans have made a sacrifice for our country, [26:29.400 --> 26:31.840] and they certainly deserve a helping hand [26:31.840 --> 26:33.360] when they come home. [26:33.360 --> 26:35.600] This is a joint venture between the California [26:35.600 --> 26:38.520] Department of Veterans Affairs and the California Community [26:38.520 --> 26:39.360] Colleges. [26:39.360 --> 26:43.280] Each year, 30,000 men and women return home from the service [26:43.280 --> 26:45.920] to civilian life in California. [26:45.920 --> 26:49.560] In Los Angeles, Anita Vogel, Fox News. [26:49.560 --> 26:52.680] Four men in North Carolina are facing arson charges [26:52.680 --> 26:56.140] for burning two American flags near an Occupy camp. [26:56.140 --> 26:59.120] It happened yesterday at the Occupy Charlotte camp. [26:59.120 --> 27:01.200] One of the men who was arrested says [27:01.200 --> 27:03.300] he burned the flags to inspire people [27:03.300 --> 27:05.640] to take more direct action in response [27:05.640 --> 27:07.040] to the world's problems. [27:07.040 --> 27:09.760] The flag burning upset other occupiers. [27:09.760 --> 27:12.680] Some of them decided to leave the Occupy camp [27:12.680 --> 27:14.480] after hearing the news. [27:14.480 --> 27:16.560] I do formally apologize to anyone [27:16.560 --> 27:18.720] who was offended by my actions. [27:18.720 --> 27:21.680] However, I do not apologize for the burning of the flag, [27:21.680 --> 27:23.880] as it is my constitutional right to do so. [27:23.880 --> 27:26.400] These people are not members of the Occupy movement. [27:26.400 --> 27:27.680] They're campers. [27:27.680 --> 27:31.760] I'm an occupier, because I'm occupying ethics, morality, [27:31.760 --> 27:36.600] principles, ideas, ways to move our country forward. [27:36.600 --> 27:38.520] As a group, Occupy Charlotte also [27:38.520 --> 27:40.260] made it clear that it does not support [27:40.260 --> 27:42.120] the burning of the flag. [27:42.120 --> 27:44.960] In Southern California, members of the Occupy movement [27:44.960 --> 27:47.720] are getting ready to march along the route for the Tournament [27:47.720 --> 27:49.000] of Roses parade. [27:49.000 --> 27:51.640] In addition to a huge US Constitution, [27:51.640 --> 27:54.920] they will have a massive octopus with tentacles meant [27:54.920 --> 27:58.760] to symbolize Wall Street's influence on American society. [27:58.760 --> 28:02.000] Pasadena city officials gave the OK for the occupiers [28:02.000 --> 28:05.680] to march after the Rose parade itself has finished. [28:05.680 --> 28:07.880] Well, it was a violent night in the South Bay. [28:07.880 --> 28:10.320] Hear what led up to the stabbings and shootings [28:10.320 --> 28:13.840] that kept San Jose police officers very busy last night. [28:13.840 --> 28:17.700] And with the new year comes new laws on the books, some of which [28:17.700 --> 28:19.040] are controversial. [28:19.040 --> 28:21.120] Also, what one lawmaker wants to do [28:21.120 --> 28:24.280] to prevent violent hazings, like the one that recently [28:24.280 --> 28:26.640] claimed the life of a Florida college student. [28:30.240 --> 28:32.000] Someone grabbed Sheldon's booty. [28:32.000 --> 28:34.440] You called the police because someone hacked your World [28:34.440 --> 28:35.680] of Warcraft account. [28:35.680 --> 28:37.320] Next, Big Bang. [28:37.320 --> 28:40.320] Monday at 6, 30 and 7 on Fox 2. [28:40.320 --> 28:43.160] The Ford, Gere, and Celigon is going on now. [28:51.080 --> 28:54.680] That means savings up to $6,500 on a built Ford tough truck [28:54.680 --> 28:57.360] and payments as low as $139 a month on Fusion. [28:57.360 --> 28:59.600] Ford is the right choice for three models [28:59.600 --> 29:01.200] that get 40 miles per gallon. [29:01.200 --> 29:04.080] Come in now, get 1,000 more for your trade [29:04.080 --> 29:05.920] and start the new year in style. [29:05.920 --> 29:07.480] This offer ends January 3rd. [29:07.480 --> 29:10.280] So hurry to your California Ford dealer. [29:10.280 --> 29:12.800] OK, you guys wanted a space for entertaining your friends. [29:12.800 --> 29:15.840] So open your eyes and check out your new living room. [29:15.840 --> 29:17.400] Honey, the TV's over there. [29:23.240 --> 29:24.200] Like we could put it over there? [29:24.200 --> 29:25.200] And that car we did. [29:25.200 --> 29:27.080] We could put it on the patio for watching the game with the guys. [29:27.080 --> 29:28.040] Or in the kitchen. [29:28.040 --> 29:28.800] These curtains are really. [29:28.800 --> 29:29.960] I can't believe you moved the TV. [29:29.960 --> 29:31.000] It's like a whole new living room. [29:31.000 --> 29:32.680] It actually is a whole new living room. [29:32.680 --> 29:35.680] The new wireless receiver only from AT&T. [30:45.800 --> 30:49.800] Complete Bay Area news coverage. [30:49.800 --> 30:52.800] It was a violent start to the new year in San Jose [30:52.800 --> 30:55.800] with as many as 10 shooting and stabbing incidents [30:55.800 --> 30:57.800] from last night to early this morning. [30:57.800 --> 31:00.800] KTVU's Deborah Villalon joins us live from San Jose [31:00.800 --> 31:02.800] with what happened. [31:02.800 --> 31:05.800] Well, we're downtown along the waterfront [31:05.800 --> 31:08.800] where a man was walking about 10 o'clock last night [31:08.800 --> 31:11.800] when he was stabbed, and that was just the beginning. [31:11.800 --> 31:14.800] Minutes later, another 911 call came in [31:14.800 --> 31:17.800] for shots fired in a residential neighborhood. [31:17.800 --> 31:20.800] Officers found two wounded, one man and one juvenile. [31:20.800 --> 31:23.800] The two victims were at a New Year's Eve gathering [31:23.800 --> 31:26.800] on Ridge Glen Way when that violence broke out. [31:26.800 --> 31:29.800] A neighbor tells us as his household watched TV, [31:29.800 --> 31:32.800] they were startled by that gunfire. [31:32.800 --> 31:35.800] Well, they were watching here, [31:35.800 --> 31:38.800] and then we heard the gunshot with my son, [31:38.800 --> 31:41.800] and then so I say, well, somebody's shooting, you know. [31:41.800 --> 31:45.800] And just minutes into the new year, more trouble, [31:45.800 --> 31:48.800] this time on Skull Drive in San Jose. [31:48.800 --> 31:51.800] On this street, a fight involving several people, [31:51.800 --> 31:54.800] and when it was over, six of them, mostly teenagers, [31:54.800 --> 31:57.800] went to the hospital with stab wounds. [31:57.800 --> 31:59.800] San Jose police haven't gotten back to us [31:59.800 --> 32:01.800] on what the brawl was all about. [32:01.800 --> 32:04.800] Neighbors who heard the screaming and sirens say [32:04.800 --> 32:06.800] this is generally a quiet area. [32:06.800 --> 32:09.800] I've been here more than 15 years, [32:09.800 --> 32:12.800] and it's not like that. [32:12.800 --> 32:14.800] It's not like that. [32:14.800 --> 32:17.800] Maybe it's people that come and decide to make parties, [32:17.800 --> 32:19.800] and it happens. [32:19.800 --> 32:21.800] And back now closer to downtown, [32:21.800 --> 32:24.800] the man stabbed near the river managed to walk to this street [32:24.800 --> 32:27.800] before bystanders called him an ambulance. [32:27.800 --> 32:30.800] Now, only one victim we're aware of at the shooting [32:30.800 --> 32:33.800] has injuries that may be life-threatening. [32:33.800 --> 32:37.800] And as the night went on, there were three other gunfire incidents [32:37.800 --> 32:41.800] into cars, houses, and groups of people, but no one hit, [32:41.800 --> 32:44.800] and several scattered stabbings as well. [32:44.800 --> 32:47.800] All of this, police say, is unfortunate, [32:47.800 --> 32:50.800] but not unusual for New Year's Eve. [32:50.800 --> 32:51.800] We're live in San Jose. [32:51.800 --> 32:54.800] Deborah Villalon, KTVU, Channel 2 News. [32:54.800 --> 32:56.800] Walnut Creek police have arrested two men [32:56.800 --> 32:58.800] in connection with a nightclub assault. [32:58.800 --> 33:00.800] The attack happened early yesterday morning [33:00.800 --> 33:04.800] at the Vice Ultra Lounge on Arroyo Way in Civic Drive. [33:04.800 --> 33:07.800] The victim says he was pistol-whipped by a group of people. [33:07.800 --> 33:10.800] He suffered a serious but non-life-threatening head injury. [33:10.800 --> 33:13.800] Now, this is the same nightclub where a large fight broke out [33:13.800 --> 33:16.800] on November 27th with at least two people injured. [33:16.800 --> 33:18.800] New Year's Day always brings new laws, [33:18.800 --> 33:23.800] and 2012 brings changes that affect not only how you buckle up your kids, [33:23.800 --> 33:24.800] but also the medicine you buy [33:24.800 --> 33:27.800] and what your health insurance will cover. [33:27.800 --> 33:32.800] KTVU's Claudine Wong takes a look at some of the laws going into effect today. [33:32.800 --> 33:34.800] In the laundry list of laws going into effect today, [33:34.800 --> 33:37.800] most people knew about the one affecting kids and car seats. [33:37.800 --> 33:39.800] Instead of 6 years old or 60 pounds, [33:39.800 --> 33:43.800] a new law says keep them in until they're 8 or 4 foot 9. [33:43.800 --> 33:46.800] I did know about that one, yep, because I got a 5-year-old here. [33:46.800 --> 33:48.800] Other laws target teens. [33:48.800 --> 33:51.800] They can't hop into a tanning booth or buy certain cough medicines. [33:51.800 --> 33:53.800] And schools, in a first for the nation, [33:53.800 --> 33:57.800] now have to teach about gay and lesbian contributions in the classroom [33:57.800 --> 34:00.800] and have to develop plans to address gay and lesbian bullying in school. [34:00.800 --> 34:02.800] Schools and sports also affected, [34:02.800 --> 34:04.800] with districts required to come up with a plan [34:04.800 --> 34:06.800] to address concussions in student athletes. [34:06.800 --> 34:10.800] Some question whether laws are necessary to make all this happen. [34:10.800 --> 34:12.800] I definitely understand that concern, [34:12.800 --> 34:14.800] but when you look at each one individually, [34:14.800 --> 34:15.800] it's kind of hard to argue against them. [34:15.800 --> 34:17.800] Some changes may not affect you. [34:17.800 --> 34:20.800] Janelle Hampton isn't worried about a ban on caffeinated beer. [34:20.800 --> 34:24.800] I do either beer or caffeine, yeah, so. [34:24.800 --> 34:26.800] Well, then that's good. It doesn't affect you. [34:26.800 --> 34:27.800] You don't have to worry about it. [34:27.800 --> 34:29.800] So I think I'll be okay. [34:29.800 --> 34:31.800] 2012 means gun owners have to change things up. [34:31.800 --> 34:34.800] They can no longer carry unloaded weapons in plain sight. [34:34.800 --> 34:36.800] Job seekers should remember, [34:36.800 --> 34:39.800] most potential employers can no longer check your credit. [34:39.800 --> 34:41.800] And if you have a child with autism, [34:41.800 --> 34:44.800] health insurers are now required to cover treatments. [34:44.800 --> 34:46.800] And it's not just state laws bringing change. [34:46.800 --> 34:49.800] 2012 also means a plastic bag ban in San Jose, [34:49.800 --> 34:51.800] a minimum wage hike in San Francisco. [34:51.800 --> 34:54.800] And yes, PG and E rates going up too. [34:54.800 --> 34:57.800] In Oakland, Claudine Wong, KTVU, Channel 2 News. [34:57.800 --> 35:00.800] Other major new state laws include the DREAM Act, [35:00.800 --> 35:04.800] which allows California public colleges to give private financial aid [35:04.800 --> 35:06.800] to illegal immigrants. [35:06.800 --> 35:09.800] 3,200 large California companies will have to report on [35:09.800 --> 35:12.800] whether their supply chains use slave labor. [35:12.800 --> 35:17.800] It's hoped a law banning shark fin soup will reduce the slaughter of sharks. [35:17.800 --> 35:21.800] And on the local level, outdoor smoking is banned in all public places in Alameda, [35:21.800 --> 35:25.800] including sidewalks, outdoor work sites, and work vehicles. [35:25.800 --> 35:28.800] California is cracking down on businesses such as home builders [35:28.800 --> 35:30.800] paying employees cash under the table. [35:30.800 --> 35:33.800] The Chronicle reports this so-called underground economy [35:33.800 --> 35:37.800] cost the state $7 billion a year in lost revenues. [35:37.800 --> 35:41.800] Labor groups also say these businesses withhold payroll taxes [35:41.800 --> 35:44.800] for Social Security, Medicare, and unemployment insurance. [35:44.800 --> 35:47.800] California has assembled a task force, [35:47.800 --> 35:49.800] which includes the Departments of Industrial Relations, [35:49.800 --> 35:52.800] Employment Development, and the Board of Equalization. [35:52.800 --> 35:56.800] Unlicensed contractors face fines as well as jail time. [35:56.800 --> 36:01.800] A nationwide anti-hazing law could be introduced in Congress this month. [36:01.800 --> 36:04.800] Florida A&M University has come under close scrutiny [36:04.800 --> 36:08.800] since Drum Major Robert Champion died during a hazing ritual in November. [36:08.800 --> 36:12.800] The proposed law by a Florida congressman would strip financial aid [36:12.800 --> 36:15.800] from anyone sanctioned by a university for hazing [36:15.800 --> 36:20.800] or witnessing hazing and failing to report it, including the victim. [36:20.800 --> 36:22.800] The hazing measure comes as Congress considers [36:22.800 --> 36:25.800] anti-bullying legislation to protect school children. [36:25.800 --> 36:29.800] The corruption trial of former leaders of the Southern California city of Bell [36:29.800 --> 36:32.800] will proceed, at least for now. [36:32.800 --> 36:36.800] A state appellate court has dismissed an appeal by six former council members [36:36.800 --> 36:39.800] to charges that they padded their six-figure salaries [36:39.800 --> 36:42.800] without doing the required work. [36:42.800 --> 36:46.800] All six received thousands of dollars a month for work on council boards, [36:46.800 --> 36:49.800] which prosecutors say rarely have ever met. [36:49.800 --> 36:53.800] The former officials say they will appeal to the state's Supreme Court. [36:53.800 --> 36:58.800] A San Jose-based solar company has dropped plans to build a solar plant in Michigan. [36:58.800 --> 37:03.800] Global Watt blames the recession and competition from overseas for the cancellation. [37:03.800 --> 37:08.800] Saginaw, Michigan was to see 500 new jobs when plans for the factory [37:08.800 --> 37:10.800] were announced back in 2009. [37:10.800 --> 37:13.800] Officials there approved millions of dollars in incentives, [37:13.800 --> 37:17.800] but the money was never distributed because the jobs never happened. [37:17.800 --> 37:21.800] Blackbirds have fallen dead from the sky in a central Arkansas town [37:21.800 --> 37:24.800] for the second New Year's Eve in a row. [37:24.800 --> 37:27.800] Police are working with animal control officers to figure out [37:27.800 --> 37:29.800] the exact number of birds that were killed. [37:29.800 --> 37:33.800] Now, it's not clear if year-end celebrations are again to blame. [37:33.800 --> 37:37.800] You may remember last year fireworks were blamed for the deaths of thousands of birds. [37:37.800 --> 37:42.800] Biologists said last year's deaths were caused by the birds being jolted by the fireworks [37:42.800 --> 37:47.800] and flying right into homes, cars, telephone poles, and even each other. [37:47.800 --> 37:49.800] Well, it has been dry in the Sierra. [37:49.800 --> 37:54.800] We'll tell you just how little snow has fallen in the Tahoe area so far this season. [37:54.800 --> 37:57.800] And will the dry weather around the Bay Area stick around? [37:57.800 --> 38:01.800] Channel 2 meteorologist Mark Tamayo will be here with a look at the forecast [38:01.800 --> 38:04.800] for the first week of 2012. [38:04.800 --> 38:06.800] This is a dumb roof. [38:06.800 --> 38:08.800] This is a smart roof. [38:08.800 --> 38:10.800] And this is a smarter roof. [38:10.800 --> 38:13.800] Smarter roofs save you big money on your energy bills. [38:13.800 --> 38:20.800] To learn more about smarter roofs, call Peterson Dean right now at 800-564-0362. [38:20.800 --> 38:24.800] Every year Sleep Train clears out hundreds of last year's models [38:24.800 --> 38:26.800] during the huge year-end clearance sale. [39:13.800 --> 39:16.800] Visit MLKTribute.com. [39:16.800 --> 39:18.800] Henry! [39:18.800 --> 39:21.800] Okay, I don't know where he is. Maybe he went outside. I'm not an actress. [39:43.800 --> 39:47.800] People you trust, trust Coit. [39:47.800 --> 39:51.800] This year I decided to spare no expense for our holiday dinner, [39:51.800 --> 39:54.800] so I hired renowned chef Gordon Ramsay. [39:54.800 --> 39:56.800] Oh, come on! It's disgusting! [39:56.800 --> 39:58.800] On you! What are you doing? It's raw! [39:58.800 --> 40:01.800] You idiot! Is this your first day? [40:01.800 --> 40:03.800] Congratulations! It's your last! Get out of here! [40:03.800 --> 40:05.800] At a time when it's easy to go overboard... [40:05.800 --> 40:07.800] Happy holidays! [40:07.800 --> 40:12.800] Acura invites you to be smarter and over-save during the season of reason sales event. [40:12.800 --> 40:18.800] Take advantage of attractive offers on the 2012 Acura TSX for well-qualified customers. [40:18.800 --> 40:22.800] Resolutions? Well, like almost everything else, there is an app for that [40:22.800 --> 40:24.800] to keep your New Year's resolutions strong. [40:24.800 --> 40:28.800] Programmers are offering smartphone applications to track eating, smoking, [40:28.800 --> 40:31.800] or other habits that you're trying to change. [40:31.800 --> 40:33.800] Reporter Karen Kafe explains. [40:33.800 --> 40:36.800] Out with old habits, in with the new. [40:36.800 --> 40:42.800] I'm going to join a gym and become more active. [40:42.800 --> 40:45.800] I'm going to try to drink more water because I drink too much diet soda. [40:45.800 --> 40:50.800] New Year's resolutions are easy to make and even easier to break. [40:50.800 --> 40:53.800] Have you guys ever had a resolution that you didn't quite stick with? [40:53.800 --> 40:54.800] Yes. What was that? [40:54.800 --> 40:56.800] Going on a diet. [40:56.800 --> 40:58.800] I had to stop biting my nails, but that never worked out. [40:58.800 --> 41:01.800] So what if you had a reminder in your pocket every day? [41:01.800 --> 41:05.800] That's the goal of smartphone apps like Resolutions 2012, [41:05.800 --> 41:10.800] which lets users choose goals, identify habits they need to change to meet them, [41:10.800 --> 41:12.800] and track progress. [41:12.800 --> 41:15.800] Weight loss is a popular resolution each year. [41:15.800 --> 41:19.800] The Daily Burn app for iPhone manages workouts and calorie counts. [41:19.800 --> 41:23.800] The Noon Weight Loss app for Android gives day-by-day tips on eating, [41:23.800 --> 41:25.800] working out, and slimming down. [41:25.800 --> 41:30.800] The My Quick Coach app from Livestrong is for those who want to kick butts in 2012. [41:30.800 --> 41:34.800] The app presents daily guidelines for quitting smoking gradually over time [41:34.800 --> 41:36.800] or helping you go cold turkey. [41:36.800 --> 41:39.800] The Quitter app for iPhone tallies how much money you've saved [41:39.800 --> 41:41.800] since putting down your last cigarette. [41:41.800 --> 41:45.800] And keeping a resolution can require a support system. [41:45.800 --> 41:47.800] I want to try to eat healthier. [41:47.800 --> 41:51.800] We've got to be a role model and show them more how to eat healthy. [41:51.800 --> 41:56.800] Try posting your goal on social media so connections can cheer you on. [41:56.800 --> 41:58.800] That was Karen Kaffa reporting. [41:58.800 --> 42:01.800] Some visitors to the Sierra are putting away their skis [42:01.800 --> 42:04.800] and instead taking out their golf clubs. [42:04.800 --> 42:10.800] The National Weather Service says Tahoe had the eighth driest December since 1903. [42:10.800 --> 42:15.800] Just 3.72 inches of precipitation fell in the last three months of the year. [42:15.800 --> 42:18.800] Just 31% of average precipitation. [42:18.800 --> 42:23.800] In fact, the owner of the old Brockway Golf Club on Tahoe's normally snowy north shore [42:23.800 --> 42:29.800] says that he's actually open right now for the first time ever in his 20 years of business. [42:29.800 --> 42:31.800] It is amazing what a difference a year makes. [42:31.800 --> 42:32.800] Absolutely. [42:32.800 --> 42:35.800] And we were up there last year and there was just snow everywhere. [42:35.800 --> 42:36.800] Yeah, absolutely. [42:36.800 --> 42:39.800] Well, is it going to change? That's the question. [42:39.800 --> 42:42.800] KTVU meteorologist Mark Tamayo joins us now to give us our forecast. [42:42.800 --> 42:46.800] Well, yeah, we have it locked in this dry weather pattern essentially for over a month now [42:46.800 --> 42:50.800] with a few weak systems moving in and unfortunately no big changes [42:50.800 --> 42:53.800] showing up in the long-range weather maps as we begin 2012. [42:53.800 --> 42:55.800] Here's a look at the highs from today. [42:55.800 --> 42:57.800] You can see, look at these 70s. It is January 1st. [42:57.800 --> 43:00.800] Morgan Hill topped out at 74 degrees. [43:00.800 --> 43:04.800] I will say Santa Cruz also topped out in the lower 70s as well at 73. [43:04.800 --> 43:07.800] Some patchy fog lingered right around the Concord of Vallejo [43:07.800 --> 43:09.800] keeping those temperatures in the upper 50s. [43:09.800 --> 43:14.800] But still, at least across most of the Bay Area, temperatures on the mild side. [43:14.800 --> 43:17.800] This was a time lapse about an hour ago looking out toward the Oakland Estuary. [43:17.800 --> 43:19.800] A few high clouds have been increased [43:19.800 --> 43:22.800] and you can see all the boats coming in from an ice day on the Bay [43:22.800 --> 43:24.800] to celebrate New Year's Day. [43:24.800 --> 43:27.800] As far as overnight lows, starting out tomorrow morning on the cool side. [43:27.800 --> 43:32.800] Once again, we're talking about some 30s showing up in Santa Rosa, Napa, and also Concord. [43:32.800 --> 43:35.800] Oakland at 42 and San Jose right around 40. [43:35.800 --> 43:36.800] Patchy fog. [43:36.800 --> 43:40.800] Some dense could return especially toward the inland valleys right around the Delta as well [43:40.800 --> 43:43.800] and up in the North Bay for Santa Rosa. [43:43.800 --> 43:47.800] The bigger perspective in the Pacific, the satellite, there's actually a storm out here [43:47.800 --> 43:50.800] but the unfortunate part of that news, if you want the rain and the snow, [43:50.800 --> 43:52.800] it is heading way up to our north. [43:52.800 --> 43:54.800] So here's the system I am tracking for tomorrow. [43:54.800 --> 43:57.800] The Associated Coal Front will be approaching Northern California. [43:57.800 --> 44:00.800] This will have an impact on our forecast for your Monday [44:00.800 --> 44:02.800] with partly to mostly cloudy skies. [44:02.800 --> 44:06.800] Most areas coming down about 4 to 8 degrees from today's highs [44:06.800 --> 44:10.800] and there is just a tiny chance, that much of a chance, of a North Bay sprinkle [44:10.800 --> 44:12.800] as we do head into it tomorrow afternoon. [44:12.800 --> 44:15.800] But it looks like the bulk of the shower activity will be up to our north [44:15.800 --> 44:16.800] and we're not expecting much. [44:16.800 --> 44:19.800] This is mainly a cloud producer and also bringing some cooler air. [44:19.800 --> 44:22.800] In fact, it shows up nicely with the updated forecast model. [44:22.800 --> 44:24.800] Tomorrow morning at 9 o'clock, some cloud cover out there. [44:24.800 --> 44:27.800] You'll notice that rain band from Cape Mendocino to the north [44:27.800 --> 44:30.800] and not drifting too much to the south by 12 o'clock. [44:30.800 --> 44:32.800] So quite a few clouds. [44:32.800 --> 44:34.800] That's why we do have partly to mostly cloudy skies [44:34.800 --> 44:37.800] in the Bay Area forecast for your Monday. [44:37.800 --> 44:39.800] Seven o'clock, definitely want to bundle up with temperatures [44:39.800 --> 44:41.800] in the upper 30s to the upper 40s. [44:41.800 --> 44:43.800] A sun cloud mix by 12 o'clock. [44:43.800 --> 44:45.800] Still quite a few clouds out there. [44:45.800 --> 44:47.800] And then by 3 o'clock, partly cloudy skies. [44:47.800 --> 44:51.800] Most areas on either side of 60 degrees for afternoon highs. [44:51.800 --> 44:53.800] So Santa Rosa no longer in the upper 60s. [44:53.800 --> 44:54.800] We're going to put you at 61. [44:54.800 --> 44:56.800] San Francisco, 59. [44:56.800 --> 44:59.800] And San Jose tops out 63 degrees out of the 70s [44:59.800 --> 45:01.800] and Morgan Hill back down to 65. [45:01.800 --> 45:03.800] Here is, look ahead, your extended forecast. [45:03.800 --> 45:04.800] And you will notice this. [45:04.800 --> 45:06.800] Temperatures in fact warming up a little bit [45:06.800 --> 45:10.800] as we do head into Tuesday and then also into Wednesday. [45:10.800 --> 45:13.800] Partly cloudy skies on Thursday as these very weak systems [45:13.800 --> 45:14.800] move up to our north. [45:14.800 --> 45:15.800] With your weekend always in view, [45:15.800 --> 45:16.800] if you're looking for more rain, [45:16.800 --> 45:18.800] you're not going to find it here just yet [45:18.800 --> 45:20.800] with those readings mainly in the lower 60s. [45:20.800 --> 45:23.800] Heather and Ken, typically when we have a dry period, [45:23.800 --> 45:25.800] we always have the other extreme about two weeks away. [45:25.800 --> 45:29.800] But I can usually always advertise that in the forecast, [45:29.800 --> 45:30.800] but nothing showing up just yet. [45:30.800 --> 45:31.800] Nothing inside, huh? [45:31.800 --> 45:33.800] Yeah, and hopefully maybe things could change [45:33.800 --> 45:36.800] with the updated forecast charts coming in the next few hours. [45:36.800 --> 45:37.800] All right, Mark, thanks. [45:37.800 --> 45:38.800] Thanks. [45:38.800 --> 45:41.800] Well, Tom Cruise's latest mission is succeeding at the box office. [45:41.800 --> 45:42.800] Jump now? [45:42.800 --> 45:43.800] Yes. [45:43.800 --> 45:44.800] Commit. [45:44.800 --> 45:45.800] Jump. [45:45.800 --> 45:46.800] Jump. [45:46.800 --> 45:49.800] Mission Impossible Ghost Protocol has now scaled [45:49.800 --> 45:52.800] more than $100 million in U.S. sales, [45:52.800 --> 45:55.800] about $30 million from this final holiday weekend. [45:55.800 --> 45:57.800] The action-packed film is helping Hollywood [45:57.800 --> 45:59.800] finish a tough year on a high note. [45:59.800 --> 46:01.800] Mission was again followed by Sherlock Holmes, [46:01.800 --> 46:05.800] A Game of Shadows, and Alvin and the Chipmunks, Chipwrecked. [46:05.800 --> 46:07.800] Steven Spielberg's new movie, War Horse, [46:07.800 --> 46:08.800] charted to fourth place, [46:08.800 --> 46:12.800] and the violent thriller Girl with the Dragon Tattoo [46:12.800 --> 46:14.800] is inked in at fifth place. [46:14.800 --> 46:17.800] Well, it is a nail-biter Sunday as teams all around the NFL [46:17.800 --> 46:19.800] battle for final playoff spots, [46:19.800 --> 46:22.800] and that includes the Raiders will have complete highlights [46:22.800 --> 46:24.800] coming up next in Sports Ref. [47:55.800 --> 47:57.800] From Hyundai. [48:25.800 --> 48:49.800] . [48:49.800 --> 48:50.800] How's it going, everybody? [48:50.800 --> 48:51.800] Happy New Year. [48:51.800 --> 48:52.800] I'm Mark Ibanez. [48:52.800 --> 48:53.800] Welcome to Sports Wrap. [48:53.800 --> 48:56.800] I think it was a little more entertaining than anybody [48:56.800 --> 48:58.800] who polls for the 49ers wanted it to be. [48:58.800 --> 48:59.800] But the end result? [48:59.800 --> 49:01.800] It fits the wish list. [49:01.800 --> 49:04.800] Victory, a first round bye, and no major injuries. [49:04.800 --> 49:05.800] I'll tell you what, though. [49:05.800 --> 49:08.800] San Francisco, they can dish out punishment on defense. [49:08.800 --> 49:11.800] No doubt sending a few of the Rams into their offices [49:11.800 --> 49:12.800] with some bumps and bruises. [49:12.800 --> 49:15.800] The always punishing Patrick Willis was back. [49:15.800 --> 49:16.800] Bad hamstring. [49:16.800 --> 49:17.800] He's healthy. [49:17.800 --> 49:18.800] Down early, 7-0. [49:18.800 --> 49:19.800] Niners tie it. [49:19.800 --> 49:22.800] Alex Smith got good blocks from Justin Peele and Frank Gore. [49:22.800 --> 49:24.800] He is in from 11 yards out. [49:24.800 --> 49:25.800] We got 7-7. [49:25.800 --> 49:29.800] Just a wee bit later, Smith will zip it to Michael Crabtree. [49:29.800 --> 49:31.800] Want to see why the Rams are so bad? [49:31.800 --> 49:32.800] Yeah, they can't tackle. [49:32.800 --> 49:33.800] That's one thing. [49:33.800 --> 49:34.800] 28 yards. [49:34.800 --> 49:35.800] Touchdown. [49:35.800 --> 49:36.800] 20 to 7. [49:36.800 --> 49:37.800] Niners at half. [49:37.800 --> 49:38.800] Third quarter. [49:38.800 --> 49:40.800] You will see a little trickery here. [49:40.800 --> 49:41.800] The fake field goal. [49:41.800 --> 49:45.800] David Akers lobbing to Michael Crabtree all by his lonesome. [49:45.800 --> 49:46.800] 27-10. [49:46.800 --> 49:47.800] You got to take a look at that. [49:47.800 --> 49:48.800] It's good. [49:48.800 --> 49:49.800] Crabtree a little sheepish there. [49:49.800 --> 49:50.800] Look at him. [49:50.800 --> 49:51.800] He's out there. [49:51.800 --> 49:53.800] Rams don't happen to notice that. [49:53.800 --> 49:58.800] And Akers, who said he didn't even get to warm his arm up, lobs it to him perfectly. [49:58.800 --> 50:04.800] 34-13 when Kellen Clemens of the Rams will loft one deep for the former 49er, Brandon [50:04.800 --> 50:05.800] Lloyd. [50:05.800 --> 50:06.800] Touchdown. [50:06.800 --> 50:07.800] 36 yards. [50:07.800 --> 50:11.800] They add another touchdown after an onside kick was successful. [50:11.800 --> 50:14.800] But Clemens in the late going sack by Navarro Bowman. [50:14.800 --> 50:17.800] And that pretty much put an end to the Rams. [50:17.800 --> 50:19.800] 34-27 the final. [50:19.800 --> 50:22.800] Harbon Company wrap one up. [50:22.800 --> 50:25.800] One of their best regular seasons ever too at 13-3. [50:25.800 --> 50:27.800] And the first round bye. [50:27.800 --> 50:30.800] And they'll finally play at the stick in two weeks. [50:30.800 --> 50:35.800] Meanwhile, with all due respect, if you saw the Raiders with everything on the line this [50:35.800 --> 50:37.800] afternoon, there for the taking. [50:37.800 --> 50:40.800] Simply put, they just didn't deserve to be in the playoffs. [50:40.800 --> 50:45.800] The Chargers will move the ball at will and eventually move the Raiders right on into [50:45.800 --> 50:46.800] vacation mode. [50:46.800 --> 50:48.800] Carson Palmer to Darius Hayward-Bey. [50:48.800 --> 50:50.800] That's a nice little fade play. [50:50.800 --> 50:51.800] 7-0. [50:51.800 --> 50:52.800] DHB by the way. [50:52.800 --> 50:54.800] Great game as you see the catch again. [50:54.800 --> 50:55.800] Nine grabs for him. [50:55.800 --> 50:56.800] 130 yards. [50:56.800 --> 50:57.800] The touchdown. [50:57.800 --> 50:59.800] San Diego answers back. [50:59.800 --> 51:02.800] Philip Rivers to Antonio Gates. [51:02.800 --> 51:03.800] That was what it was. [51:03.800 --> 51:06.800] Just a porous defense by the Raiders all afternoon. [51:06.800 --> 51:07.800] 7-7. [51:07.800 --> 51:10.800] Now watch this on the kickoff a bit later. [51:10.800 --> 51:15.800] Richard Goodman comes out of the end zone and nobody will stop him. [51:15.800 --> 51:16.800] He's gone. [51:16.800 --> 51:21.800] 105 yard return for the Chargers and they lead it 24-13 at half. [51:21.800 --> 51:25.800] Still, the Raiders with a great shot at pulling this ball game out. [51:25.800 --> 51:30.800] In the fourth quarter, Palmer, who threw for 401 yards, up top for the tight end, Kevin [51:30.800 --> 51:31.800] Boss. [51:31.800 --> 51:32.800] He's got it. [51:32.800 --> 51:33.800] Touchdown, Raiders. [51:33.800 --> 51:35.800] They pulled it within 31-26. [51:35.800 --> 51:38.800] Boss shaken up on the play, had to be helped off. [51:38.800 --> 51:42.800] As you see the replay there, he seemed to take a shot to the back of the neck. [51:42.800 --> 51:45.800] But after that, the kickoff ensues. [51:45.800 --> 51:46.800] It's a key play. [51:46.800 --> 51:51.800] Again, Goodman will bobble the ball apparently on the goal line. [51:51.800 --> 51:54.800] The Raiders, their fans, everybody thinks that's a safety. [51:54.800 --> 51:57.800] They've got the momentum, the ball and two points. [51:57.800 --> 52:03.800] But the officials, after review, correctly rule it's a San Diego ball on the half yard [52:03.800 --> 52:04.800] line. [52:04.800 --> 52:07.800] And dejectedly, the Raiders just give it up. [52:07.800 --> 52:09.800] 99 and a half yard drive. [52:09.800 --> 52:14.800] Rivers to Malcolm Floyd to finish it off and finish off the Raiders. [52:14.800 --> 52:15.800] 38-26. [52:15.800 --> 52:16.800] Hugh Jackson is livid. [52:16.800 --> 52:18.800] You'll hear from him tonight at 10. [52:18.800 --> 52:21.800] For the second straight year, Raiders finish 8-8. [52:21.800 --> 52:24.800] Needless to say, this one stings a bit more than last year. [52:24.800 --> 52:26.800] They had the playoffs in their sights. [52:26.800 --> 52:29.800] So after all, it's Tebow time in the playoffs. [52:29.800 --> 52:30.800] Although through the back door, there's a mom. [52:30.800 --> 52:32.800] She had a son on both teams. [52:32.800 --> 52:34.800] Chiefs and Broncos, only touchdown of the game. [52:34.800 --> 52:39.800] Dexter McCluster from 21 yards out will scamper to the end zone. [52:39.800 --> 52:44.800] 7-3 Denver losing but still winning. [52:44.800 --> 52:50.800] The Jets, meanwhile, had their very verbose coach shut up. [52:50.800 --> 52:53.800] They go home after blowing it against the Dolphins. [52:53.800 --> 52:55.800] Matt Mora tossed to Charles Clay. [52:55.800 --> 52:57.800] One yard, 1917 Miami. [52:57.800 --> 53:00.800] And by the way, one of the great careers coming to an end. [53:00.800 --> 53:05.800] Jason Taylor retiring for the Dolphins after 15 years in the NFL. [53:05.800 --> 53:07.800] 13 of them with Miami. [53:07.800 --> 53:12.800] Baltimore bruising it up with the Bengals, a low-scoring event. [53:12.800 --> 53:16.800] The Baltimore Ravens, they make you pay for everything. [53:16.800 --> 53:19.800] And then Ray Rice on the loose, 70 yards. [53:19.800 --> 53:24.800] Ravens roll 24-16 to wrap up the number two seed in the AFC. [53:24.800 --> 53:27.800] Meanwhile, the Packers and Lions. [53:27.800 --> 53:29.800] Who needs Aaron Rodgers? [53:29.800 --> 53:32.800] Did you hear about the Packers backup quarterback, Matt Flynn? [53:32.800 --> 53:35.800] He'll flip a little screen pass here to Ryan Grant. [53:35.800 --> 53:38.800] He'll do the rest, 80 yards. [53:38.800 --> 53:42.800] And by the way, Flynn, six touchdown passes. [53:42.800 --> 53:44.800] That's a Packer record. [53:44.800 --> 53:48.800] Rodgers, Brett Farr, this kid's got the record, 45-41. [53:48.800 --> 53:51.800] Packers lose only once in the regular season. [53:51.800 --> 53:54.800] The Saints are the three seed in the NFC, [53:54.800 --> 53:56.800] and they do look as though they're peaking right now. [53:56.800 --> 53:59.800] They're just rolling big time on offense. [53:59.800 --> 54:00.800] 17-0 Carolina. [54:00.800 --> 54:04.800] Drew Brees flips for Marcus Colston, 42 yards. [54:04.800 --> 54:06.800] Brees on the beam again, touchdown. [54:06.800 --> 54:09.800] Saints big time, 45-17. [54:09.800 --> 54:11.800] Took the Patriots a while to heat it up, [54:11.800 --> 54:13.800] looking to lock up the home field advantage [54:13.800 --> 54:15.800] for the postseason in the AFC. [54:15.800 --> 54:18.800] Down 21, zip to Buffalo early. [54:18.800 --> 54:20.800] Tom Brady loves his tight end. [54:20.800 --> 54:23.800] Rob Gronkowski, 49-21 final. [54:23.800 --> 54:27.800] Brady on the day, 338 yards passing and three touchdowns. [54:27.800 --> 54:30.800] Fill out the rest of the NFL on this final day of the regular season. [54:30.800 --> 54:33.800] Tennessee not going to the playoffs, even with their win. [54:33.800 --> 54:36.800] The Bengals lose, and they get there anyway [54:36.800 --> 54:38.800] through a convoluted circumstance. [54:38.800 --> 54:40.800] Meanwhile, in other games, [54:40.800 --> 54:42.800] Pittsburgh on the long end against Cleveland. [54:42.800 --> 54:43.800] Looked like a boring one there. [54:43.800 --> 54:47.800] Colts lose again, securing the number one pick in this spring's draft. [54:47.800 --> 54:48.800] Atlanta clobbers Tampa. [54:48.800 --> 54:50.800] The Bucs quit weeks. [54:50.800 --> 54:54.800] Michael Vick throws for three TDs, 335 yards. [54:54.800 --> 54:57.800] The Eagles roll, but they go home. [54:57.800 --> 55:01.800] The Bears win, but they are done, as is Minnesota. [55:01.800 --> 55:05.800] And in overtime, it was Arizona a field goal better than Seattle. [55:05.800 --> 55:06.800] Great one this evening. [55:06.800 --> 55:09.800] The NFC East at stake win, and you're in. [55:09.800 --> 55:14.800] Dallas and the Giants, no score yet at the medal rounds from that one. [55:14.800 --> 55:16.800] The second half of Sports Wrap just ahead, [55:16.800 --> 55:18.800] and it looks like a former playoff hero. [55:18.800 --> 55:20.800] We're talking baseball here. [55:20.800 --> 55:24.800] Might be making the commute across the Bay Bridge to the east side of the Bay. [55:24.800 --> 55:31.800] A little NBA stuff to talk about when we come back to Sports Wrap Part 2 next. [55:54.800 --> 55:59.800] This year, I decided to spare no expense for our holiday dinner, [55:59.800 --> 56:02.800] so I hired renowned chef Gordon Ramsay. [56:02.800 --> 56:03.800] Oh, come on. [56:03.800 --> 56:05.800] It's disgusting. [56:05.800 --> 56:06.800] And you, what are you doing? [56:06.800 --> 56:08.800] It's raw, you idiot. [56:08.800 --> 56:09.800] Is this your first day? [56:09.800 --> 56:10.800] Congratulations. [56:10.800 --> 56:11.800] It's your last. [56:11.800 --> 56:12.800] Get out of here. [56:12.800 --> 56:13.800] At a time like this, [56:13.800 --> 56:15.800] you can't help but think about what you're doing. [56:15.800 --> 56:17.800] You can't help but think about what you're doing. [56:17.800 --> 56:19.800] You can't help but think about what you're doing. [56:19.800 --> 56:21.800] You can't help but think about what you're doing. [56:21.800 --> 56:23.800] You can't help but think about what you're doing. [56:23.800 --> 56:25.800] You can't help but think about what you're doing. [56:25.800 --> 56:27.800] You can't help but think about what you're doing. [56:27.800 --> 56:29.800] You can't help but think about what you're doing. [56:29.800 --> 56:31.800] You can't help but think about what you're doing. [56:31.800 --> 56:33.800] You can't help but think about what you're doing. [56:33.800 --> 56:35.800] You can't help but think about what you're doing. [56:35.800 --> 56:37.800] You can't help but think about what you're doing. [56:37.800 --> 56:39.800] You can't help but think about what you're doing. [56:39.800 --> 56:41.800] You can't help but think about what you're doing. [56:41.800 --> 56:43.800] You can't help but think about what you're doing. [56:43.800 --> 56:44.520] You can't help but think about [56:44.520 --> 56:46.100] you can't help but think about what you're doing. [56:46.100 --> 56:48.300] You can't help but think about what you're doing. [56:48.300 --> 56:50.400] You can't help but think about what you're doing. [56:50.400 --> 56:51.800] You can't help but think about what you're doing. [56:51.800 --> 56:52.800] revolution. [57:21.800 --> 57:22.800] AT&T. [57:22.800 --> 57:28.680] An exclusive one on one with Oprah Winfrey on the next Dr. Oz, Monday at 4, followed [57:28.680 --> 57:33.800] by KTVU Channel 2 News at 5 with Frank Somerville and Garcia Micaelian. [57:33.800 --> 57:37.840] Wow, hard to know what the A's are really thinking in this. [57:37.840 --> 57:41.880] Hey, let's dump everybody off season, certainly mixed messages with the news now that they're [57:41.880 --> 57:43.840] interested in outfielder Cody Ross. [57:43.840 --> 57:48.680] Oakland reportedly in talks with the former giant Ross who overpriced himself in the early [57:48.680 --> 57:51.520] stages of the winter asking for a three-year deal. [57:51.520 --> 57:56.480] Now getting some nibbles, Ross who caught lightning in a bottle in the 2010 postseason [57:56.480 --> 58:02.480] apparently has lowered his demands after an extremely disappointing 2011 season with the [58:02.480 --> 58:04.840] Giants when he hit only 240. [58:04.840 --> 58:07.400] And that is the sporting life for a Sunday evening. [58:07.400 --> 58:08.800] We'll see you again tonight at 10. [58:08.800 --> 58:09.800] All right, thanks, Mark. [58:19.320 --> 58:22.720] Because you will no longer be allowed to light up. [58:22.720 --> 58:24.800] Thank you so much for trusting KTVU Channel 2 News.
