[00:18.460 --> 00:21.220] Occupy Oakland and Oscar Grant supporters [00:21.220 --> 00:23.320] joined forces today to make a point, [00:23.320 --> 00:26.600] but will the alliance be lifelong or grow uneasy [00:26.600 --> 00:28.500] as 2012 unfolds? [00:28.500 --> 00:31.500] Cell phone video shows the ferocious flames [00:31.500 --> 00:34.500] that consumed to house just minutes into the new year. [00:34.500 --> 00:36.500] And a new year means new laws will tell you [00:36.500 --> 00:39.500] which ones could impact you the most. I'm Ken Pritchett and tonight for Ken Wayne. [00:50.500 --> 00:52.500] And I'm Heather Holmes. [00:52.500 --> 00:54.500] A rally today to mark the third anniversary [00:54.500 --> 00:57.500] of the death of a man shot and killed by bar police. [00:57.500 --> 01:00.500] Today's demonstration honored passenger Oscar Grant, [01:00.500 --> 01:03.500] but it also was a rallying point for the [01:03.500 --> 01:04.500] waning Occupy movement. [01:04.500 --> 01:06.500] KTVU's patty Lee was with marchers today [01:06.500 --> 01:09.500] who tell her they have plans for the new year. [01:09.500 --> 01:10.500] Patty? [01:10.500 --> 01:13.500] Well, more than 120 protesters march for an hour and a half [01:13.500 --> 01:15.500] to get here from Frank Elgawa Plaza now. [01:15.500 --> 01:17.500] The vigil is ending just about now behind that [01:17.500 --> 01:19.500] Kias. You can see folks are starting to leave [01:19.500 --> 01:21.500] and to get on to buses. [01:21.500 --> 01:24.500] Now today's events were organized by both the Oscar [01:24.500 --> 01:28.500] Grant Committee and by Occupy Oakland. [01:28.500 --> 01:31.500] I will visit the air if you don't care. [01:31.500 --> 01:33.500] It's a buzzer to people. [01:33.500 --> 01:35.500] Three years after he was shot and killed by a [01:35.500 --> 01:37.500] Bart police officer. [01:37.500 --> 01:39.500] Oscar Grant has become a martyr of sorts [01:39.500 --> 01:41.500] for the Occupy Oakland movement. [01:41.500 --> 01:44.500] Where the Occupy and Oscar Grant issues overlap [01:44.500 --> 01:46.500] is around police brutality. [01:46.500 --> 01:48.500] We don't do it for Oscar. [01:48.500 --> 01:50.500] Say, I am Oscar Grant. [01:50.500 --> 01:53.500] More than 120 protesters gathered [01:53.500 --> 01:54.500] in the field of work. [01:54.500 --> 01:57.500] And so I will remember Grant at Frank O'Gawl Plaza [01:57.500 --> 02:00.500] this afternoon before marching to the [02:00.500 --> 02:01.500] fruit Ville Bard station. [02:01.500 --> 02:04.500] Grant unarmed hands behind his back [02:04.500 --> 02:07.500] was killed New Year's day 2009. [02:07.500 --> 02:10.500] In a well emotional for me because. [02:10.500 --> 02:12.500] Earlier Oscar Grant's family gathered [02:12.500 --> 02:15.500] there for a private memorial service. [02:15.500 --> 02:18.500] To say a day first to remember Oscar [02:18.500 --> 02:20.500] and to not forget what happened to him. [02:20.500 --> 02:22.500] Grant's mother says Oscar's legacy lies in [02:22.500 --> 02:24.860] officers accountable for their actions. [02:24.860 --> 02:27.140] As for the legacy of Occupy Oakland, [02:27.140 --> 02:28.340] undetermined. [02:28.340 --> 02:30.900] I feel that there's a lot of different people [02:30.900 --> 02:33.980] rallying for different things in the Occupy movement. [02:33.980 --> 02:36.620] Grant's family says the groups may not be entirely [02:36.620 --> 02:39.740] in sync, but it is grateful for Occupy support. [02:39.740 --> 02:43.860] My want to keep Oscars, name, and memory alive [02:43.860 --> 02:44.940] as long as we can. [02:44.940 --> 02:47.380] But others in the grant camp are worried [02:47.380 --> 02:50.940] that if the Occupy Oakland movement embraces civil disobedience [02:50.940 --> 02:54.500] in the year ahead, it may dilute the message they share. [02:54.500 --> 02:57.380] They're not supposed to be doing things that I'm setting [02:57.380 --> 03:00.700] and disrupting here around else. [03:00.700 --> 03:03.340] Oscar isn't about. [03:03.340 --> 03:04.940] And if you have any of his names, [03:04.940 --> 03:07.540] they need to be doing a little bit of a record. [03:07.540 --> 03:10.900] Occupy Oakland organizers say they do have [03:10.900 --> 03:12.700] some new year's resolutions. [03:12.700 --> 03:16.140] One of which is to occupy a building this month, [03:16.140 --> 03:19.820] so they can stop being harassed at their outdoor encampment, [03:19.820 --> 03:20.940] reporting live in Oakland. [03:20.940 --> 03:23.660] Patty Lee, KTVU, Channel 2 News. [03:23.660 --> 03:25.740] Violin Smart, New Years in Oakland, [03:25.740 --> 03:28.300] as police responded to gunfire on 14th [03:28.300 --> 03:30.260] and Franklin Streets this morning. [03:30.260 --> 03:32.740] When police arrived around 2am, they found a woman [03:32.740 --> 03:35.060] with a gunshot wound to her hand. [03:35.060 --> 03:37.660] As they investigated the shooting, a car drove up [03:37.660 --> 03:40.380] with another woman who had been shot in her leg. [03:40.380 --> 03:42.420] Police say the shootings are unrelated. [03:42.420 --> 03:44.420] Both women are being treated at the hospital. [03:44.420 --> 03:47.580] No arrests have been made in either shooting. [03:47.580 --> 03:51.140] Oakland Police announced a $5,000 reward this afternoon [03:51.140 --> 03:53.540] for information on the shooter who fatally wounded [03:53.540 --> 03:57.100] a five-year-old boy on International Boulevard Friday night. [03:57.100 --> 04:00.900] Gabriel Martinez Jr. was outside his family's taco truck [04:00.900 --> 04:02.380] on 54th Avenue. [04:02.380 --> 04:05.060] When a man ordered some food and then turned around [04:05.060 --> 04:07.060] and sprayed the truck with gunfire, [04:07.060 --> 04:09.460] the suspect then drove away in a silver Pontiac [04:09.460 --> 04:11.180] with a female passenger. [04:11.180 --> 04:13.540] Oakland's homicide total last year rose [04:13.540 --> 04:15.860] for the first time in four years, [04:15.860 --> 04:20.860] the city's official count for 2011 is 103 homicide. [04:20.860 --> 04:23.220] That's 11 more than in 2010. [04:23.220 --> 04:26.540] Five-year-old Gabriel Martinez was the third young child [04:26.540 --> 04:29.620] killed by gunfire in Oakland in 2011. [04:29.620 --> 04:32.660] Three-year-old Carlos Nava and 23-year-old [04:32.660 --> 04:36.180] high-room Lawrence Jr. were also shot and killed. [04:36.180 --> 04:39.380] Petaluma police have identified and alleged drug drivers [04:39.380 --> 04:41.580] suspected of hitting a 15-year-old boy [04:41.580 --> 04:43.020] who was at a crosswalk. [04:43.020 --> 04:45.660] Investigators say 20-year-old Wesley Link Pickford [04:45.660 --> 04:48.580] of Nevada failed to stop at East Washington [04:48.580 --> 04:50.820] and eat its streets striking the teen [04:50.820 --> 04:53.420] in the crosswalk fair around 12.30 a.m. [04:53.420 --> 04:55.660] The boy is listed in stable condition [04:55.660 --> 04:57.340] but with serious injuries, [04:57.340 --> 04:59.780] Pickford was booked into the Sonoma County jail [04:59.780 --> 05:02.020] on $30,000 bail. [05:02.020 --> 05:06.460] The CHP is reporting two fatality fatal DUI related crashes [05:06.460 --> 05:09.500] in the Bay Area so far this New Year's holiday weekend. [05:09.500 --> 05:11.780] And that's actually down from four fatalities [05:11.780 --> 05:13.580] for the same time last year. [05:13.580 --> 05:18.860] The number of DUI arrest is up with a total of 161 arrests [05:18.860 --> 05:21.100] compared to 124 last year. [05:21.100 --> 05:23.060] Those numbers, though, are expected to rise [05:23.060 --> 05:26.340] when the CHP releases the totals from its maximum [05:26.340 --> 05:30.060] enforcement effort, which ends Monday at midnight. [05:30.060 --> 05:32.180] Now to the South Bay where a family there [05:32.180 --> 05:34.980] is starting the New Year in temporary housing. [05:34.980 --> 05:38.180] After a three-alarm fire gutted the historic San Jose home [05:38.180 --> 05:41.580] they lived in and less than an hour into the New Year. [05:41.580 --> 05:44.140] Katie's boring nailer obtained cell phone video showing [05:44.140 --> 05:46.860] the challenge firefighters faced. [05:46.860 --> 05:48.820] It's gone, everything's gone, my whole life. [05:48.820 --> 05:51.420] Elizabeth Swarr has never thought she'd start 2012 [05:51.420 --> 05:54.420] barefoot outside the historic downtown San Jose house [05:54.420 --> 05:56.300] she's rented for the past five years. [05:56.300 --> 05:59.500] No shoes, no nothing. [05:59.500 --> 06:00.580] I mean, I got nothing. [06:00.580 --> 06:03.060] I don't have my purse, paddy, nothing. [06:03.060 --> 06:04.260] Everything's just gone. [06:04.260 --> 06:06.940] Everything she says, but this basket of laundry. [06:06.940 --> 06:08.420] Firefighters are still investigating [06:08.420 --> 06:10.540] what caused the fire at this Victorian home. [06:10.540 --> 06:12.780] Just 50 minutes into the New Year. [06:12.780 --> 06:15.220] A neighbor shot this cell phone video showing flames [06:15.220 --> 06:17.980] consuming the attic and her first floor. [06:17.980 --> 06:20.420] Swarr says she, her two teenage children [06:20.420 --> 06:23.940] and a friend were sleeping inside when the smoke detector went off. [06:23.940 --> 06:27.100] It started into my syndrome because my friend woke us up [06:27.100 --> 06:28.660] and said he's about smoke. [06:28.660 --> 06:30.900] And that's when the smoke came in. [06:30.900 --> 06:32.180] And then we opened the door and flames, [06:32.180 --> 06:33.820] we're just all over the place. [06:33.820 --> 06:35.260] And I just immediately got my kids up. [06:35.260 --> 06:36.620] It's get out of the fire. [06:36.620 --> 06:39.580] They were fighting a difficult battle from the start. [06:39.580 --> 06:41.620] Difficult fire captain Rob Brown says [06:41.620 --> 06:44.860] because these historic homes often lack fire breaks. [06:44.860 --> 06:46.020] That when we get fires like this, [06:46.020 --> 06:47.860] we can end up with fire in the basement and the attic [06:47.860 --> 06:50.060] and the fire floor within minutes. [06:50.060 --> 06:53.020] Everyone escaped safely, but the home on North 5th Street, [06:53.020 --> 06:55.700] which is part of San Jose's Hensley historic district, [06:55.700 --> 06:57.100] was severely damaged. [06:57.100 --> 07:00.860] It's sad, I mean, basically the we lose these by fire. [07:00.860 --> 07:03.340] That's about the, you know, unfortunately they're protected, [07:03.340 --> 07:05.140] but you can't protect them from fire. [07:05.140 --> 07:08.540] Firefighters estimate the damage of at least a half a million dollars. [07:08.540 --> 07:11.380] The family says the red cross is putting them up for a few days [07:11.380 --> 07:13.900] until they can figure out where they're going to live next. [07:13.900 --> 07:17.820] In San Jose, more e-mailer KTVU channel to news. [07:17.820 --> 07:20.660] It is a new year and with that comes several new laws [07:20.660 --> 07:24.660] for California, whether it's how you buckle up your kids in the car [07:24.660 --> 07:28.700] or what types of treatment metal insurance must cover. [07:28.700 --> 07:32.100] There is a good chance one of these new laws will apply to you. [07:32.100 --> 07:35.580] Now, KTVU's clotting wand will detail some of those new laws [07:35.580 --> 07:38.180] coming up later in the newscast. [07:38.180 --> 07:41.620] The squirrel monkey named Bananasam is back in his enclosure [07:41.620 --> 07:43.740] at the San Francisco Zoo this evening. [07:43.740 --> 07:46.820] The 17-year-old squirrel monkey was found yesterday afternoon [07:46.820 --> 07:50.420] by a man in Stern Grove Park about a mile from the zoo. [07:50.420 --> 07:55.220] The unidentified man coaxed the tiny monkey back into his backpack [07:55.220 --> 07:58.140] and then that man called police who took him to the zoo. [07:58.140 --> 08:00.820] Officials there say the monkey was scared and hungry, [08:00.820 --> 08:02.260] but otherwise healthy. [08:02.260 --> 08:05.860] Bananasam was either taken or escaped from his enclosure [08:05.860 --> 08:08.500] on Thursday night after someone cut the fencing. [08:08.500 --> 08:12.100] The man who found the monkey was questioned and is not considered [08:12.100 --> 08:13.100] a suspect. [08:13.100 --> 08:16.660] Well, it may be January 1st, but it didn't feel much like winter today [08:16.660 --> 08:17.940] across the Bay Area. [08:17.940 --> 08:20.980] Chrissy Field in San Francisco was just one of the many places [08:20.980 --> 08:24.540] where people went for walk, run, or plate fetch with their dog, [08:24.540 --> 08:27.580] wearing only short sleeves, maybe even a like jacket. [08:27.580 --> 08:30.980] Temperatures across the Bay Area were as much as 10 degrees above [08:30.980 --> 08:35.180] average today and we've seen less than half the normal rainfall [08:35.180 --> 08:38.660] for the season with more on our very mild and dry weather. [08:38.660 --> 08:41.140] We go to our meteorologist Mark to my own mark. [08:41.140 --> 08:43.580] Heather, in fact, we're taking a live look outside right now. [08:43.580 --> 08:45.740] Looking out toward a beautiful San Francisco Bay. [08:45.740 --> 08:48.740] The high clouds have been increasing over the past a few hours. [08:48.740 --> 08:51.100] And those clouds will be in fact, as we do head into it tomorrow, [08:51.100 --> 08:55.260] but most of the Bay Area warmed up into the 60s this afternoon, [08:55.260 --> 08:58.740] mid and upper 60s as the high clouds spill into the region. [08:58.740 --> 09:02.180] Temperatures will be cooling it off back down to the 30s and 40s. [09:02.180 --> 09:05.380] As you can't pick out on live storm track or two on the assata light, [09:05.380 --> 09:08.620] we can't show you this as we do take a look at to their next source. [09:08.620 --> 09:10.820] There you can pick out on live storm track or two. [09:10.820 --> 09:12.260] Just a few high clouds approaching. [09:12.260 --> 09:15.700] And I can't mend to see none of the bulk of the moisture out here in the Pacific. [09:15.700 --> 09:19.140] There is a very weak weather system approaching our coastline that will [09:19.140 --> 09:21.860] have an effect on our forecast for tomorrow with that. [09:21.860 --> 09:25.140] We do bring in just the slight chance of some drizzle up in the north Bay [09:25.140 --> 09:28.700] or a few sprinkles, but we believe should be cooling things off as we do [09:28.700 --> 09:29.860] head into your Monday. [09:29.860 --> 09:33.220] As far as this rain-free weather, I'll let you know if we have any rain clouds [09:33.220 --> 09:36.900] coming up in that five day forecast and you're full update in just a few minutes. [09:36.900 --> 09:37.900] All right. [09:37.900 --> 09:38.900] Thanks, Mark. [09:38.900 --> 09:41.780] Well, today and tomorrow are spare the air days, which means, of course, [09:41.780 --> 09:43.580] wood burning is banned. [09:43.580 --> 09:48.180] The Bay Area Air Quality District says the lack of wind is creating unhealthy air, [09:48.180 --> 09:51.300] which can be problematic for those with breathing problems. [09:51.300 --> 09:57.620] Now tomorrow's spare the air day will be the 12th this season compared to four last season. [09:57.620 --> 10:01.540] 10s of thousands of people rang in new year along San Francisco's in Barca, [10:01.540 --> 10:02.540] Derrow this morning. [10:07.540 --> 10:10.660] The chilly temperatures didn't keep people away from the open air [10:10.660 --> 10:14.860] party with many dressed and warm jackets and others with top hats and [10:14.860 --> 10:15.860] tuxitos. [10:15.860 --> 10:19.420] Many revelers found it hard to move through the crowd as the clock of [10:19.420 --> 10:24.220] coach midnight taxis and public transit ran into the early morning hours [10:24.220 --> 10:34.020] getting people back home hundreds of thousands crowded into New York's [10:34.020 --> 10:36.180] Times Square to watch the ball drop. [10:36.180 --> 10:40.780] The party left plenty of work for 149 sanitation workers who [10:40.780 --> 10:45.060] converged on the area this morning picking up 50 tons of party hats, [10:45.060 --> 10:51.220] empty containers and confetti with 22 trucks, 24 sweepers and 37 backpack [10:51.220 --> 10:52.220] blowers. [10:52.220 --> 10:55.780] The stroke of midnight rang in more than the new year for one San Lorenzo [10:55.780 --> 10:56.780] family. [13:54.700 --> 13:59.820] Now you can lease the 2012 Santa Fe for just $269 a month [13:59.820 --> 14:01.500] during Hyundai holidays. [14:01.500 --> 14:03.980] But only at your Bay Area, Hyundai Dealers. [14:07.340 --> 14:10.780] A manhand is underway at this hour on Washington's Mount Reneer [14:10.780 --> 14:14.220] after a gunman shot and killed a park ranger. [14:14.220 --> 14:17.020] The gunman is believed to be somewhere in the expansive [14:17.020 --> 14:18.380] national park. [14:18.380 --> 14:21.180] Authorities say around 10 30 this morning, a ranger [14:21.180 --> 14:25.500] tried to pull over the suspect for a suspect, rather for a routine [14:25.500 --> 14:26.140] traffic stop. [14:26.140 --> 14:30.300] But when the driver didn't stop, 34-year-old park ranger Margaret [14:30.300 --> 14:33.100] Anderson set up her vehicle as a roadblock. [14:33.100 --> 14:36.460] When the suspect arrived at the roadblock, he got out of his car [14:36.460 --> 14:38.620] and shot and killed Anderson. [14:38.620 --> 14:42.060] Police and firefighters in the Los Angeles area are on high alert [14:42.060 --> 14:45.180] tonight as they deal with 39 O'sons. [14:45.180 --> 14:48.300] This car fire in West Hollywood was one of seven new [14:48.300 --> 14:50.460] fires that broke out just overnight. [14:50.460 --> 14:54.220] The car fires have often spread to nearby apartment complexes [14:54.220 --> 14:57.660] and heavily damaged a home once owned by Jim Morrison. [14:57.660 --> 15:00.380] Since the arsenal break began late Thursday, [15:00.380 --> 15:04.940] authorities have been working round the clock to try to find the firebuck. [15:04.940 --> 15:08.940] The acts we've seen over the last 72 hours here in these communities have kept [15:08.940 --> 15:12.540] these public safety professionals up at night working tirelessly. [15:12.540 --> 15:15.660] This December 30th, the Los Angeles fire department alone has responded [15:15.660 --> 15:20.060] over 3,300 calls for service in the city. [15:20.060 --> 15:24.060] A white male in his mid-30s with a ponytail was spotted by a parking [15:24.060 --> 15:25.660] garage to Courney camera. [15:25.660 --> 15:28.700] But it is unclear tonight if he is the sole arsonist [15:28.700 --> 15:32.380] or if some of those fires are being set now by copycats. [15:32.380 --> 15:36.540] California faces new budget woes this year as one billion dollars [15:36.540 --> 15:41.420] and automatic cuts are triggered by a shortfall in last year's tax revenue. [15:41.420 --> 15:43.820] Most of those cuts will come out of higher education. [15:43.820 --> 15:47.820] But already hit hard by a 16% drop in overall state spending [15:47.820 --> 15:49.420] since the start of the recession. [15:49.420 --> 15:54.220] Governor Brown is proposing a ballot measure that would raise $7 billion a year [15:54.220 --> 15:59.740] by raising state income taxes on the wealthy and increasing the sales tax on everyone else. [15:59.740 --> 16:04.460] If nothing is done, California will face another $13 billion [16:04.460 --> 16:06.780] and cuts over the next year and a half. [16:06.780 --> 16:10.940] Exxon has won a larger ward in at the speed with Venezuela. [16:10.940 --> 16:14.460] A back in 2007 President Hugo Schoff has his government [16:14.460 --> 16:18.380] nationalized to reserve they contained an Exxon oil project. [16:18.380 --> 16:21.020] Well today the oil company announced the international [16:21.020 --> 16:25.660] chamber of commerce awarded it nearly $900 million dollars. [16:25.660 --> 16:30.540] The commerce body found Venezuela's state oil company was liable for that takeover. [16:30.540 --> 16:33.900] Venezuela has not commented yet on the award to Exxon. [16:36.140 --> 16:40.140] Republicans hoping to win the Iowa caucus took to the airwaves today [16:40.140 --> 16:43.100] making their final case before Tuesday's vote. [16:43.100 --> 16:46.540] Also today a newspaper endorsement supported Mitt Romney's [16:46.540 --> 16:48.540] narrow lead in the polls. [16:48.540 --> 16:52.300] But the final results are up for grabs with many Iowa voters still [16:52.300 --> 16:53.340] undecided. [16:53.340 --> 16:56.940] Reporter Barbara Hall has the latest on the campaign trail. [16:56.940 --> 17:01.180] A political fight to the finish line before the first real voting of the 2012 [17:01.180 --> 17:02.620] presidential race. [17:02.620 --> 17:06.540] The latest Des Moines Register poll shows Mitt Romney and Ron Paul, [17:06.540 --> 17:10.380] neck and neck. Paul says his campaign is picking up momentum. [17:10.380 --> 17:15.660] We're doing very, very well and people should just be a little bit patient. [17:15.660 --> 17:18.940] You know in Tuesday we're going to find out a lot more about the future of this election. [17:18.940 --> 17:22.620] rival Mitt Romney is narrowly leading among caucus goers. [17:22.620 --> 17:27.740] On Sunday he picked up another endorsement from Iowa newspaper The Quad City Times. [17:27.740 --> 17:32.700] Former Senator Rick Santorum of Pennsylvania rounded out the top three in the poll. [17:32.700 --> 17:34.940] My surge is going to come on January 3rd. [17:34.940 --> 17:39.260] After the people of Iowa do what they do, which is actually analyzed the candidates [17:39.260 --> 17:43.740] figure out where their positions are, find out who's the right leader, who's got [17:43.740 --> 17:47.180] what it takes to defeat Barack Obama and to lead this country. [17:47.180 --> 17:49.180] Iowa's governor seems to agree. [17:49.180 --> 17:54.540] My goal is as governor, unite the Republican party, attract the independence [17:54.540 --> 17:56.860] and defeat Obama. [17:56.860 --> 17:58.620] We launched him, we want to thank him. [17:58.620 --> 18:02.220] Also on the campaign trail Sunday, Newt Gingrich, Rick Perry, and Michelle [18:02.220 --> 18:06.620] Bachman's dumping in Iowa while John Huntsman focuses on New Hampshire, [18:06.620 --> 18:09.500] which votes a week after the Iowa caucus. [18:09.500 --> 18:11.500] I'm Barbara Hall reporting. [18:12.300 --> 18:16.380] And as the presidential race heats up, you could be asked to share your opinion [18:16.380 --> 18:21.900] the nonprofit nonpartisan Pew Research Center is one of the largest pollsters in the nation. [18:21.900 --> 18:24.540] And while many people say they don't have time for a poll, [18:24.540 --> 18:27.340] some question why they've never been asked for their opinion. [18:27.340 --> 18:32.940] There are 220 or 30 million adults in the United States. [18:32.940 --> 18:36.140] Our typical survey will interview 1500. [18:36.140 --> 18:41.100] Even over the course of a year, the chance that we would call any given individual [18:41.100 --> 18:43.820] is only about one in 150,000. [18:43.820 --> 18:49.180] Collars are never told who was actually conducting the poll to prevent the survey from being [18:49.180 --> 18:54.540] influenced by partisan feelings of either the poll takers or those who answer the poll. [18:54.540 --> 18:56.860] Authorities at Kennedy Airport in New York arrested a [18:56.860 --> 19:01.820] college student from China who they say tried to bring a stun gun on board a plane. [19:01.820 --> 19:06.780] The TSA says a screener noticed something looking like a flashlight in the woman's luggage [19:06.780 --> 19:08.140] upon further inspection. [19:08.140 --> 19:10.380] The screener saw that it was a stun gun. [19:10.380 --> 19:13.740] The college student told reporters she pleaded not guilty and believes [19:13.740 --> 19:15.740] her case will result in a fine. [19:17.020 --> 19:21.900] A member of the U.S. military is in custody tonight facing charges of attempting to bring [19:21.900 --> 19:23.900] explosives onto an airplane. [19:23.900 --> 19:30.140] The FBI says 30-year-old trace Scott Atwater was stopped Saturday at a security checkpoint [19:30.140 --> 19:32.380] at Midland Airport in Texas. [19:32.380 --> 19:38.780] Searchers say they found explosives in his bag and what are being called military grade rapings. [19:38.780 --> 19:43.660] Atwater is stationed at Fort Bragg and North Carolina and was in Midland visiting family. [19:43.660 --> 19:45.820] His arrangement is sent for Tuesday. [19:45.820 --> 19:49.980] Air travel fatalities worldwide fell dramatically last year. [19:49.980 --> 19:57.980] There were 401 deaths on commercial and charter aircraft in 2011 compared to 726 in 2010. [19:57.980 --> 20:03.500] Now excluding acts of terrorism, the number of air travel related fatalities has fallen steadily [20:03.500 --> 20:09.180] since 1990 with airline experts crediting better pilot training and safer airplanes. [20:09.180 --> 20:13.980] British aviation research company ascends says your odds of dying on a commercial flight [20:13.980 --> 20:15.740] are 1 in 7 million. [20:15.740 --> 20:21.180] New fingers out today show how hard the recession has hit the Bay Area housing market. [20:21.180 --> 20:25.980] In an analysis for the San Jose Mercury News, data-quick reports that local homes [20:25.980 --> 20:30.380] lost more than a third of a trillion dollars during the past four years. [20:30.380 --> 20:38.140] Homes in Oakland lost an average of $350,000 in conquer of the average loss was 289,000 [20:38.140 --> 20:44.300] with 267,000 in San Jose and 205,000 in San Francisco. [20:44.300 --> 20:48.780] Home equity loans have dropped about 90 per cent since 2007. [20:48.780 --> 20:52.860] NASA says two identical probes are now circling the moon. [20:52.860 --> 20:59.180] The two spacecraft are part of a mission called Grail short for gravity recovery and interior [20:59.180 --> 21:00.220] laboratory. [21:00.220 --> 21:05.980] They were designed to map the moon's gravity field in an effort to understand what is below [21:05.980 --> 21:07.100] the moon's surface. [21:07.100 --> 21:13.100] NASA engineers plan to maneuver the two orbiters closer to the moon and start the mapping in March. [21:13.100 --> 21:16.620] Some occupy protesters are facing charges here. [21:16.620 --> 21:20.780] What they are accused of and why some fellow activists are distancing themselves. [21:20.780 --> 21:24.780] Also ahead, here what's behind new missile testing today and Iran. [21:25.500 --> 21:29.180] Also coming up, we will have details on a new program for veterans. [21:29.180 --> 21:33.020] That makes the transition from combat to the classroom a little easier. [24:46.780 --> 24:52.540] The head of advisory panel said the monitors are instead giving Syrian President Assad a cover [24:52.540 --> 24:55.740] to allow his forces to continue killing civilians. [24:55.740 --> 25:00.780] The monitors are supposed to be ensuring Syria complies with terms of the Arab League's plan [25:00.780 --> 25:03.820] to end the nine-month-old crackdown on descent. [25:03.820 --> 25:05.980] It has not yet happened. [25:05.980 --> 25:11.180] And in England today, nine-year-old Prince Philip was seen by the public for the first time since his [25:11.180 --> 25:13.020] emergency heart surgery. [25:13.020 --> 25:17.900] Doctors implanted a coronary stent after the Prince went to a hospital with chest pains. [25:17.900 --> 25:22.380] The Queen's husband walked about 400 yards today to attend New Year's Day services. [25:22.380 --> 25:25.820] His wife, Queen Elizabeth, wrote that distance in a limousine. [25:25.820 --> 25:31.660] Men and women returning from wars overseas are coming home to a weak economy and high unemployment. [25:31.660 --> 25:35.180] Those who choose to go to college, however, will have some help. [25:35.180 --> 25:41.500] Reporter Anita Vogel-Tel talked to one veteran injured in Iraq who was getting help to go to college. [25:41.500 --> 25:44.380] The biggest thing was the economy took a dump on me. [25:44.380 --> 25:46.060] Right when I was getting out of the service. [25:46.060 --> 25:53.100] But California's Veterans Affairs Department is simplifying the transition from combat to the classroom. [25:53.100 --> 25:57.500] After signing up, that's getting email list of colleges in their zip code, [25:57.500 --> 25:59.900] along with financial aid information. [25:59.900 --> 26:04.460] Much of their application is even filled out for them, using data from their military [26:04.460 --> 26:08.860] forms, making it easier for vets like Arisa to get the ball rolling. [26:08.860 --> 26:11.100] I was a little lost at first and afraid to do it. [26:11.100 --> 26:16.860] I wanted to go to school, but just did not know how to even make the first step, even applying [26:16.860 --> 26:17.820] for school. [26:17.820 --> 26:23.340] That's changing, and California hopes it will become a model for other states to help vets [26:23.340 --> 26:26.540] with their first steps back into civilian life. [26:26.540 --> 26:31.500] Our veterans have made a sacrifice for our country, and they certainly deserve a helping [26:31.500 --> 26:33.020] hand when they come home. [26:33.020 --> 26:38.060] This is a joint venture between the California Department of Veterans Affairs and the California [26:38.060 --> 26:39.260] Community Colleges. [26:39.260 --> 26:45.740] Each year, 30,000 men and women return home from the service to civilian life in California. [26:45.740 --> 26:49.100] In Los Angeles, Anita Vogel Fox News. [26:49.100 --> 26:54.780] Former men in North Carolina are facing Larson charges for burning two American flags near an [26:54.780 --> 26:56.140] Occupy camp. [26:56.140 --> 26:59.340] It happened yesterday at the Occupy Charlotte camp. [26:59.340 --> 27:03.900] One of the men who was arrested says he burned the flags to inspire people to take more [27:03.900 --> 27:07.100] direct action in response to the world's problems. [27:07.100 --> 27:09.900] The flag burning upset other occupiers. [27:09.900 --> 27:14.420] Some of them decided to leave the Occupy camp after hearing the news. [27:14.420 --> 27:18.460] Do formally apologize to anyone who was offended by my actions? [27:18.460 --> 27:23.260] However, I do not apologize for the burning of the flag as it is my constitutional right [27:23.260 --> 27:24.260] to do so. [27:24.260 --> 27:26.340] People are not members of the Occupy movement. [27:26.340 --> 27:27.340] They're campers. [27:27.340 --> 27:34.820] I'm occupied because I'm occupying ethics, morality, principles, ideas, ways to move our country [27:34.820 --> 27:36.820] forward. [27:36.820 --> 27:40.820] As a group, Occupy Charlotte also made it clear that it does not support the burning [27:40.820 --> 27:42.220] of the flag. [27:42.220 --> 27:46.340] In southern California, members of the Occupy movement are getting ready to march along [27:46.340 --> 27:49.100] the route for the term of roses parade. [27:49.100 --> 27:54.020] In addition to a huge U.S. constitution, they will have a massive octopus with [27:54.020 --> 27:58.980] tentacles meant to symbolize Wall Street's influence on American society. [27:58.980 --> 28:04.460] Pasadena City officials gave the OK for the Occupiers to march after the rose parade itself [28:04.460 --> 28:05.460] has finished. [28:05.460 --> 28:10.220] While it was a violent night in the South Bay, here what led up to the stabbings and shootings [28:10.220 --> 28:14.060] that kept San Jose police officers very busy last night. [28:14.060 --> 28:19.140] And with the new year comes new laws on the books, some of which are controversial. [28:19.140 --> 28:24.260] Also, what one lawmaker wants to do to prevent violent hazings, like the one that recently [28:24.260 --> 28:30.420] claimed the life of a Florida college student. [28:30.420 --> 28:32.020] Someone grabbed Sheldon's booty. [28:32.020 --> 28:36.500] You called the police because someone hacked your world of warcraft account next big [28:36.500 --> 28:37.500] bet. [28:37.500 --> 28:40.380] Monday at 6.30 and 7, Fox 2. [30:48.700 --> 30:52.780] Complete Bay Area News coverage. [30:52.780 --> 30:57.500] It was a violent start to the new year in San Jose with as many as 10 shooting and [30:57.500 --> 31:01.060] stabbing incidents from last night to early this morning. [31:01.060 --> 31:06.100] KTVU's Deborah Bealone joins us live from San Jose with what happened. [31:06.100 --> 31:10.700] Well, we're downtown along the Waterloo Bay River where a man was walking about 10 o'clock [31:10.700 --> 31:15.020] last night when he was stabbed and that was just the beginning. [31:15.020 --> 31:20.820] Minutes later, another 911 call came in for shots fired in a residential neighborhood. [31:20.820 --> 31:23.980] Officers found two wounded, one man and one juvenile. [31:23.980 --> 31:28.100] The two victims were out of New Year's Eve gathering on Ridge Glen Way when that violence [31:28.100 --> 31:29.100] broke out. [31:29.100 --> 31:34.060] A neighbor tells us as his household watch TV, they were startled by that gunfire. [31:34.060 --> 31:40.460] Well, we're watching here and then we heard the gunshot be the machine and then show [31:40.460 --> 31:44.540] I say, well, somebody shooting, you know. [31:44.540 --> 31:46.980] And just minutes into the New Year more trouble. [31:46.980 --> 31:52.700] This time on Skull Drive in San Jose on this street, a fight involving several people [31:52.700 --> 31:58.380] and when it was over six of them, mostly teenagers went to the hospital with stab wounds. [31:58.380 --> 32:03.020] Jose police haven't gotten back to us on what the brawl was all about, neighbors who heard [32:03.020 --> 32:07.140] the screaming and siren say this is generally a quiet area. [32:07.140 --> 32:12.900] I've been here more than 15 years and it's not, it's not like that. [32:12.900 --> 32:13.900] It's not like that. [32:13.900 --> 32:20.780] Maybe it's people that come and decide to make parties and it happens. [32:20.780 --> 32:25.340] And back now closer to downtown, the man stabbed near the river managed to walk to this street [32:25.340 --> 32:28.300] before bystanders called him an ambulance. [32:28.300 --> 32:34.140] Now only one victim, we're aware of, at the shooting, has injuries that may be life threatening. [32:34.140 --> 32:39.940] And as the night went on, there were three other gunfire incidents into cars, houses, [32:39.940 --> 32:45.660] and groups of people, but no one hit and several scattered stabbing as well. [32:45.660 --> 32:50.980] All of this police say is unfortunate, but not unusual for New Year's Eve. [32:50.980 --> 32:55.340] Our live in San Jose, Deborah Vielone, KTVU, Channel 2 News. [32:55.340 --> 32:59.500] While the Creek Police have arrested two men in connection with a nightclub assault, the [32:59.500 --> 33:04.140] attack happened early yesterday morning at the vice-altera lounge on a royal way in Civic [33:04.140 --> 33:05.140] Drive. [33:05.140 --> 33:07.820] The victim says he was pistol whipped by a group of people. [33:07.820 --> 33:10.860] He suffered a serious but non-life threatening head injury. [33:10.860 --> 33:16.060] Now this is the same nightclub where a large fight broke out on November 27 with at least two [33:16.060 --> 33:17.060] people injured. [33:17.060 --> 33:19.360] New Year's Day always brings new laws. [33:19.360 --> 33:24.440] In 2012, brings changes that affect not only how you buckle up your kids, but also the [33:24.440 --> 33:27.880] medicine you buy and what your health insurance will cover. [33:27.880 --> 33:32.720] KTVU's Clawding Wong takes a look at some of the laws going into effect today. [33:32.720 --> 33:36.600] In the laundry list of laws going into effect today, most people knew about the one affecting [33:36.600 --> 33:38.080] kids and car seats. [33:38.080 --> 33:42.040] Instead of six years old, or 60 pounds, New Law says keep them in until they're eight [33:42.040 --> 33:43.040] or four foot nine. [33:43.040 --> 33:47.240] I didn't know about that one yet because I got a five year old here. [33:47.240 --> 33:52.000] After laws target teens, they can't hop into a tanning booth or buy certain cough medicines [33:52.000 --> 33:54.360] and schools in a first for the nation. [33:54.360 --> 33:58.840] Now have to teach about gay and lesbian contributions in the classroom and have to develop [33:58.840 --> 34:01.920] plans to address gay and lesbian bullying in school. [34:01.920 --> 34:05.440] Schools and sports also affected with districts required to come up with a plan to address [34:05.440 --> 34:07.920] concussions in student athletes. [34:07.920 --> 34:11.240] Some question whether laws are necessary to make all this happen. [34:11.240 --> 34:15.040] I definitely understand that concern, but when you look at each one individually, it's kind [34:15.040 --> 34:16.640] of hard to argue against them. [34:16.640 --> 34:18.000] Some changes may not affect you. [34:18.000 --> 34:20.880] Janelle Hampton isn't worried about a ban on caffeinated beer. [34:20.880 --> 34:24.480] I do either beer or caffeine. [34:24.480 --> 34:25.480] Yeah. [34:25.480 --> 34:26.480] That's good. [34:26.480 --> 34:27.480] Yeah, that's good. [34:27.480 --> 34:28.480] Yeah, that's good. [34:28.480 --> 34:29.480] Yeah, that's good. [34:29.480 --> 34:30.480] They got to be okay. [34:30.480 --> 34:32.560] 2012 means gun owners have to change things up. [34:32.560 --> 34:36.000] They can no longer carry unloaded weapons and plain sight. [34:36.000 --> 34:40.400] Job seekers should remember, most potential employers can no longer check your credit. [34:40.400 --> 34:45.280] And if you have a child with autism, health insurers are now required to cover treatments. [34:45.280 --> 34:47.320] And it's not just state laws bringing change. [34:47.320 --> 34:52.200] 2012 also means a plastic bag ban in San Jose, a minimum wage hike in San Francisco. [34:52.200 --> 34:57.760] And yes, PG&E rates going up to in Oakland, Clothing, Wong, KTVU, Channel to News. [34:57.760 --> 35:02.680] Other major new state laws include the DREAM Act, which allows California public colleges [35:02.680 --> 35:07.000] to give private financial aid to illegal immigrants. [35:07.000 --> 35:11.400] 3,200 large California companies will have to report on whether they're supply change [35:11.400 --> 35:17.120] use slave labor, it's hoped a law banning shark fin soup will reduce the slaughter of [35:17.120 --> 35:18.120] sharks. [35:18.120 --> 35:22.480] And on the local level, outdoor smoking is banned in all public places in Alameda, including [35:22.480 --> 35:25.960] sidewalks, outdoor work sites and work vehicles. [35:25.960 --> 35:30.720] California is cracking down on businesses such as Hope Builders, paying employees, cash under [35:30.720 --> 35:31.720] the table. [35:31.720 --> 35:37.240] The Chronicle reports this so-called undergrad economy cost the state $7 billion a year [35:37.240 --> 35:38.800] in lost revenues. [35:38.800 --> 35:44.160] Labor groups also say these businesses with hold payroll taxes for Social Security, Medicare, [35:44.160 --> 35:45.840] and unemployment insurance. [35:45.840 --> 35:50.840] California has assembled a task force, which includes the Department of Industrial Relations, [35:50.840 --> 35:53.920] employment development, and the Board of Equalization. [35:53.920 --> 35:57.720] Unlicensed contractors face fines as well as jail time. [35:57.720 --> 36:02.080] A nationwide anti-hazing law could be introduced in Congress this month. [36:02.080 --> 36:06.520] Florida and M. University has come under close scrutiny since Trump made a Robert champion [36:06.520 --> 36:09.200] died during a hazing ritual in November. [36:09.200 --> 36:14.520] The proposed law by a Florida congressman would strip financial aid from anyone sanctioned [36:14.520 --> 36:20.200] by a university for hazing or witnessing hazing and were failing to report it, including [36:20.200 --> 36:21.200] the victim. [36:21.200 --> 36:25.840] The hazing measure comes as Congress considers anti-bullying legislation to protect school [36:25.840 --> 36:26.840] children. [36:26.840 --> 36:31.840] The corruption trial of former leaders of the Southern California City of Bell will proceed [36:31.840 --> 36:36.720] at least for now, a state of pellet court has dismissed an appeal by six former council [36:36.720 --> 36:42.080] members to charges that they padded their six figure salaries without doing the required [36:42.080 --> 36:43.080] work. [36:43.080 --> 36:47.960] All six received thousands of dollars a month for work on council boards, which prosecutors [36:47.960 --> 36:50.080] say rarely have ever met. [36:50.080 --> 36:53.640] The former official say they will appeal to the state Supreme Court. [36:53.640 --> 36:59.080] A Senate's A-based solar company has dropped plans to build a solar plant in Michigan. [36:59.080 --> 37:04.760] Mobile Watt blames the recession and competition from overseas for the cancellation. [37:04.760 --> 37:09.600] Sagonal Michigan was to see five hundred new jobs when plans for the factory were announced [37:09.600 --> 37:11.440] back in 2009. [37:11.440 --> 37:15.800] Officials there approved millions of dollars in incentives, but the money was never distributed [37:15.800 --> 37:18.120] because the jobs never happened. [37:18.120 --> 37:22.920] Blackbirds have fallen dead from the sky in a central Arkansas town for the second [37:22.920 --> 37:24.760] New Year's Eve in a row. [37:24.760 --> 37:29.240] Police are working with animal control officers to figure out the exact number of birds [37:29.240 --> 37:30.240] that were killed. [37:30.240 --> 37:33.800] Now, it's not clear if year-end celebrations are again to blame. [37:33.800 --> 37:38.200] You may remember last year, fireworks were blamed for the deaths of thousands of birds. [37:38.200 --> 37:42.800] Biologists said last year's deaths were caused by the birds being jolted by the fireworks [37:42.800 --> 37:47.080] and flying right into homes, cars, telephone poles, and even each other. [37:47.080 --> 37:49.600] Well, it has been dry in the Sierra. [37:49.600 --> 37:54.440] We'll tell you just how little snow has fallen in the Tahoeira so far this season. [40:25.480 --> 40:30.160] Programmers are offering smart phone applications to track eating, smoking, or other habits [40:30.160 --> 40:34.480] that you're trying to change, reporter Karen Kaffa explains. [40:34.480 --> 40:36.760] Out with old habits in with the new. [40:36.760 --> 40:42.640] I'm going to join a gym and become more active. [40:42.640 --> 40:46.160] I'm going to try to drink more water because I drink too much diet soda. [40:46.160 --> 40:50.920] New years resolutions are easy to make and even easier to break. [40:50.920 --> 40:53.560] Have you guys ever had a resolution that you didn't quite stick with? [40:53.560 --> 40:54.560] Yes. [40:54.560 --> 40:55.560] Go on a diet. [40:55.560 --> 40:59.040] It was a stop biting my nails for the network down. [40:59.040 --> 41:02.560] So what if you had a reminder in your pocket every day? [41:02.560 --> 41:08.060] That's the goal of smartphone apps like Resolutions 2012, which lets users choose goals, [41:08.060 --> 41:13.140] identify habits they need to change to meet them, and track progress. [41:31.180 --> 41:35.820] The app presents daily guidelines for quitting smoking gradually over time, or helping [41:35.820 --> 41:37.500] you go cold turkey. [41:37.500 --> 41:41.380] The Quitter app for iPhone tallies how much money you've saved since putting down your [41:41.380 --> 41:42.380] last cigarette. [41:42.380 --> 41:46.300] And keeping a resolution can require a support system. [41:46.300 --> 41:48.460] I want to try to eat healthier. [41:48.460 --> 41:51.020] We've got to be a role model and show them more. [41:51.020 --> 41:52.020] How to eat healthy. [41:52.020 --> 41:57.500] Try posting your goal on social media so connections can cheer you on. [41:57.500 --> 41:59.820] That was Karen Kaffa reporting. [41:59.820 --> 42:04.260] Some visitors to the Sierra are putting away their skis and instead taking out their golf [42:04.260 --> 42:11.140] clubs, the National Weather Service says Tahoe had the 8th, dryest December since 1903. [42:11.140 --> 42:17.540] Just 3.72 inches of precipitation fell in the last three months of the year, just 31% [42:17.540 --> 42:19.380] of average precipitation. [42:19.380 --> 42:24.500] Back the owner of the old Brockway golf club on Tahoe's normally snowy north shore [42:24.500 --> 42:30.300] says that he's actually open right now for the first time ever in his 20 years of business. [42:30.300 --> 42:31.820] It is amazing what a difference. [42:31.820 --> 42:32.820] A year makes. [42:32.820 --> 42:33.820] Absolutely. [42:33.820 --> 42:34.820] Well, it's going to change. [42:34.820 --> 42:43.060] That's the question KTVU meteorologist Mark Tamayo joins us now to give us our forecast. [42:43.060 --> 42:47.540] Well, we have it locked in this dry weather pattern essentially for over a month now with [42:47.540 --> 42:52.180] a few weeks systems moving in and unfortunately no big changes showing up on the long range [42:52.180 --> 42:53.780] weather maps as we begin. [42:53.780 --> 42:54.780] 2012. [42:54.780 --> 42:55.780] Here's a look at the highs from today. [42:55.780 --> 42:56.780] You can see. [42:56.780 --> 42:57.780] Look at these 70s. [42:57.780 --> 42:58.780] It is January 1st. [42:58.780 --> 42:59.780] Morgan Hilltop. [42:59.780 --> 43:01.780] It's 74 degrees. [43:01.780 --> 43:05.380] I'll say Santa Cruz also topped out in the lower 70s as well, 73. [43:05.380 --> 43:08.780] Some patchy fog lingered right around in a conqueror to Vallejo keeping those temperatures [43:08.780 --> 43:13.620] in the upper 50s, but still at least across most of the Bay Area temperatures on the [43:13.620 --> 43:14.980] a mild side. [43:14.980 --> 43:15.980] This was the time lapse. [43:15.980 --> 43:18.420] But now we're going to look at out toward the Okniest you worry. [43:18.420 --> 43:21.500] A few high clouds have an increase and you can see all the boats coming in from an [43:21.500 --> 43:24.700] ice day on the bay to celebrate New Year's Day. [43:24.700 --> 43:28.060] As far as overnight lows start now tomorrow morning on the cool side. [43:28.060 --> 43:32.860] Once again, we're talking about some 30s showing up in Santa Rosa and Napa and also conquered [43:32.860 --> 43:38.020] Oakland at 42 and San Jose right around 40 patchy fog locally dense can return especially [43:38.020 --> 43:42.260] at toward the inland valleys right around the Delta as well and up in the north bay for [43:42.260 --> 43:43.580] Santa Rosa. [43:43.580 --> 43:47.460] The bigger perspective in the Pacific, the sad delight there's actually a storm out here [43:47.460 --> 43:51.860] by the unfortunate part of that news if you want the rain to snow and is heading way up [43:51.860 --> 43:52.860] to our north. [43:52.860 --> 43:53.860] Here's the system. [43:53.860 --> 43:55.060] I am tracking forward tomorrow. [43:55.060 --> 43:58.260] The Associated cold front will be approaching northern California. [43:58.260 --> 44:02.060] This will have an impact on our forecast for your Monday with partly to mostly cloudy [44:02.060 --> 44:03.260] skies. [44:03.260 --> 44:07.940] Most areas coming down about 4 to 8 degrees from today's highs and there is just a tiny [44:07.940 --> 44:08.940] chance. [44:08.940 --> 44:11.300] That much of a chance of a north bay sprinkles. [44:11.300 --> 44:14.980] We do head into it tomorrow afternoon, but it looks like the bulk of the shower activity [44:14.980 --> 44:17.340] will be up to our north and we're not expecting much. [44:17.340 --> 44:20.380] This is mainly a cloud producer and also bringing some cooler air. [44:20.380 --> 44:24.580] In fact, it shows a nicely with the updated forecast model tomorrow morning at 9 o'clock [44:24.580 --> 44:25.580] out there. [44:25.580 --> 44:29.980] You'll notice that rain band from Cape Mendocino to the north and not drifting too much [44:29.980 --> 44:31.580] to the south by 12 o'clock. [44:31.580 --> 44:32.580] So quite a few clouds. [44:32.580 --> 44:36.860] That's why we do a partly to mostly cloudy skies in the bay area forecast for your [44:36.860 --> 44:37.860] Monday. [44:37.860 --> 44:41.460] 7 o'clock definitely want to bond a lot with temperatures in the upper 30s to the upper [44:41.460 --> 44:42.460] 40s. [44:42.460 --> 44:45.860] A sun cloud mix by 12 o'clock still quite a few clouds out there. [44:45.860 --> 44:50.700] And then by three o'clock partly cloudy skies, most areas on either side of 60 degrees [44:50.700 --> 44:51.700] for afternoon highs. [44:51.700 --> 44:56.980] Santa Rosa no longer in the upper 60s when I put you at 61, San Francisco 59 and [44:56.980 --> 45:02.660] San Jose tops out 63 degrees out of the 70s and Morgan Hill back down to 65. [45:02.660 --> 45:03.660] Here is look ahead. [45:03.660 --> 45:07.180] You're extended forecast and you will notice this temperatures in fact warming up a little [45:07.180 --> 45:11.980] bit as we do head in a Tuesday and then also in a Wednesday partly cloudy skies on [45:11.980 --> 45:16.100] Thursday as he's very weak systems move up to our north with your weekend always in [45:16.100 --> 45:17.100] view. [45:17.100 --> 45:19.300] If you're looking for more rain, you're not going to find it here just yet with those [45:19.300 --> 45:21.580] readings mainly in the lower 60s. [45:21.580 --> 45:25.260] There can't typically when we have a dry period, we always have the other extreme [45:25.260 --> 45:30.620] about two weeks away, but I can usually always advertise that in the forecast, but nothing [45:30.620 --> 45:31.620] is showing up just yet. [45:31.620 --> 45:32.620] Yeah. [45:32.620 --> 45:36.020] And hopefully maybe things could change with the updated to forecast charts coming [45:36.020 --> 45:37.020] in the next few hours. [45:37.020 --> 45:38.020] All right. [45:38.020 --> 45:39.020] My thanks. [45:39.020 --> 45:42.820] Well Tom Cruise's latest mission is succeeding at the box office. [45:42.820 --> 45:43.820] Jump now. [45:43.820 --> 45:44.820] Yes. [45:44.820 --> 45:45.820] Smith. [45:45.820 --> 45:46.820] Jump. [45:46.820 --> 45:51.540] Mission impossible ghost protocol has now scaled more than 100 million [45:51.540 --> 45:56.180] dollars in U.S. sales about 30 million from this final holiday weekend. [45:56.180 --> 46:00.100] The action packed film is helping Hollywood finish a tough year on a high note. [46:00.100 --> 46:04.260] Mission was again followed by Sherlock Holmes, a game of shadows and Alvin in the chip [46:04.260 --> 46:05.900] monks chip wrecked. [46:05.900 --> 46:09.980] Steven Spielberg's new movie, Warhorse, tried to fourth place and the violent thriller [46:09.980 --> 46:14.660] girl with a vot with the dragon tattoo is inked in at fifth place. [46:14.660 --> 46:19.860] Well, it is a nail bidersunday as teams all around the NFL battle for final playoff spots [46:19.860 --> 46:24.180] and that includes the Raiders will have complete highlights coming up next in sportswear. [48:53.640 --> 48:59.080] I think it was a little more entertaining than anybody who pulls for the 49ers wanted it to be. [48:59.080 --> 49:01.880] But the end result, it fits the wish list. [49:01.880 --> 49:05.120] Victory, a first round buy and no major injuries. [49:05.120 --> 49:09.960] I'll tell you what, though, San Francisco, they can dish out punishment on defense, no doubt [49:09.960 --> 49:13.480] sending a few of the Rams into their offices with some bumps and bruises. [49:13.480 --> 49:17.200] The always punishing Patrick Willis was back, bad hamstring. [49:17.200 --> 49:19.480] He's healthy, down early, 7, nothing. [49:19.480 --> 49:23.720] Niners tie it, Alex Smith got good blocks from Justin Peel and Frank Gore. [49:23.720 --> 49:25.360] He is in from 11 yards out. [49:25.360 --> 49:30.160] We got 7, 7, just a wee bit later, Smith will zip it to Michael Crabtree. [49:30.160 --> 49:32.000] I want to see why the Rams are so bad. [49:32.000 --> 49:33.600] Yeah, they can't tackle. [49:33.600 --> 49:34.600] That's one thing. [49:34.600 --> 49:39.640] 28 yards touched down 20 to 7, Niners at half, third quarter. [49:39.640 --> 49:40.960] You will see a little trickery here. [49:40.960 --> 49:45.800] The fake field gold, David Acker's lobbying to Michael Crabtree all by his loans. [49:45.800 --> 49:50.760] I'm 27, Ted, you had to take a look at that as good Crabtree and a little sheepish there. [49:50.760 --> 49:51.760] Look at him. [49:51.760 --> 49:52.760] He's out there. [49:52.760 --> 49:54.080] Rams don't happen to notice that. [49:54.080 --> 49:58.560] And Acker's said he didn't even get to warm his arm up, lobs it to him perfectly. [49:58.560 --> 50:04.360] 34, 13 when Kellen Clemens of the Rams will loft one deep for the former 49er Brandon [50:04.360 --> 50:07.400] Lloyd touched down 36 yards. [50:07.400 --> 50:12.480] They add another touchdown after an onside kick with successful foot Clemens. [50:12.480 --> 50:18.680] The late going sack by Navarro Bowman, not pretty much put it into the Rams 34, 27, [50:18.680 --> 50:21.000] the final Jim Harden. [50:21.000 --> 50:26.000] Her bond company rep won up one of their best regular seasons ever to at 13 and 3 and [50:26.000 --> 50:30.160] the first round by and they'll finally play at the stick in two weeks. [50:30.160 --> 50:35.200] Meanwhile, with all due respect, if you saw the Raiders with everything on the line this [50:35.200 --> 50:39.800] afternoon, therefore the taking simply put, they just didn't deserve to be in the [50:39.800 --> 50:44.440] playoffs, the chargers will move the ball at will and eventually move the Raiders right [50:44.440 --> 50:48.320] on into vacation mode, Carson Palmer to Darious. [50:48.320 --> 50:49.320] Hey, we're baked. [50:49.320 --> 50:54.360] It's a nice little fade play seven, nothing, DHB, by the way, great game as you see [50:54.360 --> 50:55.360] the catch again. [50:55.360 --> 51:02.000] Nine grabs for him, 130 yards, the touchdown, San Diego answers back, Philip Revers to Antonio [51:02.000 --> 51:03.000] Gates. [51:03.000 --> 51:08.840] That was what it was just a porous defense by the Raiders all afternoon, 7, 7, now watch [51:08.840 --> 51:11.080] this on the kick-up a bit later. [51:11.080 --> 51:16.120] Richard Goodman comes out of the end zone and nobody will stop him. [51:16.120 --> 51:22.560] He's gone, 105 yards return for the chargers and they lead it 24, 13 and half. [51:22.560 --> 51:27.240] Still, the Raiders with a great shot at pulling this ball game out in the fourth quarter, [51:27.240 --> 51:32.080] Palmer, who threw for 401 yards up top for the tight and Kevin Bosch. [51:32.080 --> 51:33.880] He's got it, touchdown Raiders. [51:33.880 --> 51:39.040] He pulled it within 31, 26, Bosch shaking up on the play, had to be helped off, as you [51:39.040 --> 51:40.040] see the replay there. [51:40.040 --> 51:46.280] He seemed to take a shot to the back of the neck, but after that, the kick-up ensues, [51:46.280 --> 51:47.280] it's the key play. [51:47.280 --> 51:53.120] Again, Goodman will bobble the ball, apparently on the goal line, the Raiders, their [51:53.120 --> 51:55.560] fans, everybody thinks that's a safety. [51:55.560 --> 52:00.400] They've got the momentum, the ball, and two points, but the officials have to review, [52:00.400 --> 52:07.160] correctly rule, it's a San Diego ball on the half yard line and, dejectedly, the Raiders [52:07.160 --> 52:13.440] just give it up, 99 and a half yard drive, reverse to Malcolm Floyd to finish it off [52:13.440 --> 52:17.560] and finish off the Raiders 38, 26 huge jacks in his living. [52:17.560 --> 52:21.240] You'll hear from him tonight at 10 for the second straight year, Raiders finish eight [52:21.240 --> 52:22.240] and eight. [52:22.240 --> 52:25.040] Needless to say, this one's things a bit more than last year. [52:25.040 --> 52:27.280] They had the playoffs in their sights. [52:27.280 --> 52:31.040] So after all, it's Tvo time in the playoffs, although through the back door, there's [52:31.040 --> 52:35.720] a mom, she had a son on both teams, Chiefs and Broncos, only touched down to the game, [52:35.720 --> 52:43.200] Dexter McCluster from 21 yards out will skimper to the end zone, 73 Denver, losing, but [52:43.200 --> 52:51.000] still winning the Jets mean while had their very verbose coach shut up. [52:51.000 --> 52:53.600] They go home after blowing it against the Dolphins. [52:53.600 --> 52:59.440] That more a toss to Charles Clay, one yard, 1917 Miami, and by the way, one of the great [52:59.440 --> 53:05.960] careers coming to an end, Jason Taylor, retiring for the Dolphins after 15 years in the NFL [53:05.960 --> 53:08.720] 13 of them with Miami. [53:08.720 --> 53:15.960] Baltimore bruised it up with the Bengals, a low scoring event, the Baltimore Ravers, [53:15.960 --> 53:20.560] they make you pay for everything and then Raer ice on the loose 70 yards, Ravens roll [53:20.560 --> 53:25.760] to the 24, 16 to wrap up the number two seed in the AFC. [53:25.760 --> 53:31.080] Meanwhile, the Packers and Alliance, who needs Aaron Rogers, you hear about the Packers [53:31.080 --> 53:36.080] backup quarterback, Matt Flynn, he'll flip a little screen pass here to Ryan Grant, he'll [53:36.080 --> 53:43.120] do the rest, 80 yards and by the way, Flynn, six touchdown passes. [53:43.120 --> 53:49.720] That's a Packer record, Rogers, Brett Far, this kid's got the record, 45, 41 Packers [53:49.720 --> 53:51.960] lose only once in the regular season. [53:51.960 --> 53:56.960] The Saints are the three seed in the NFC and they do look as though they're peaking right [53:56.960 --> 53:57.960] now. [53:57.960 --> 54:02.640] They're just rolling big time on offense, 17 old Carolina, Drew Breeze flips from Marcus [54:02.640 --> 54:10.560] Colston, 42 yards, Breeze on the beam again, touchdown Saints, big time, 45, 17. [54:10.560 --> 54:14.160] Took the Patriots a while, he did up, looking to lock up the homefield advantage for the [54:14.160 --> 54:21.160] postseason in the AFC, down 21 zip to Buffalo, early Tom Brady loves his tight end, Rob [54:21.160 --> 54:27.840] Grunkowski, 49, 21 final, Brady on the day, 338 yards passing and three touchdowns. [54:27.840 --> 54:32.360] Fill out the rest of the NFL on this final day of the regular season, Tennessee not going [54:32.360 --> 54:34.400] to the playoffs, even with their win. [54:34.400 --> 54:39.840] The Bengals lose and they get there anyway through a convoluted circumstance, meanwhile [54:39.840 --> 54:44.360] in other games, Pittsburgh on the long end against Cleveland, like a boring one there, [54:44.360 --> 54:49.240] Colts lose against securing the number one pick in this spring's draft, Atlantic Clover's [54:49.240 --> 54:56.640] Tampa, the buck's quint weeks, govick throws for three TDs, 335 yards, the Eagles roll, [54:56.640 --> 54:58.480] but they go home. [54:58.480 --> 55:03.880] The Bears win, but they are done as his Minnesota, and in overtime it was Arizona, [55:03.880 --> 55:06.920] a field goal better than Seattle, great one this evening. [55:06.920 --> 55:13.280] In the NFC East at stake, win and you're in Dallas and the Giants, no score yet at the [55:13.280 --> 55:14.640] metal rounds from that one. [55:14.640 --> 55:19.320] The second half of sports rap, just ahead, and it looks like a former playoff hero, we're [55:19.320 --> 55:24.480] talking baseball here, might be making the commute across the Bay Bridge to the east side [55:24.480 --> 55:29.480] of the Bay, a little NBA stuff to talk about when we come back to sports rap, part [55:29.480 --> 55:41.560] two, neck, good, how did you do this?
