[00:08.000 --> 00:11.840] Foreign Minister SM Krishna writes to the family of Anuj Bidwe, who was killed in UK, [00:11.840 --> 00:15.600] assuring all help in bringing back the body, the government will bear the expenses. [00:16.240 --> 00:20.240] Anna Hazare may still be waiting for parliament to pass a strong anti-corruption law, [00:20.240 --> 00:23.760] but he has named a baby in his native village, exactly that, Lokpal. [00:23.760 --> 00:32.240] Hello and welcome, I'm Ketaki Angre. Our top story, the war of words that we saw in the Rajya [00:32.240 --> 00:37.280] Sabha till the early hours of Friday morning has not died out. Political leaders, whether it's the [00:37.280 --> 00:42.720] government or the opposition, members of team Anna, everyone continues to speak out their mind [00:42.720 --> 00:47.120] on the moves that resulted in the Lokpal bill not going through this parliament session. [00:47.120 --> 00:53.600] If that was freedom at midnight, this was literally freedom at midnight. [00:53.600 --> 00:57.120] Here is a case where the assassins are blaming the victims. [00:57.120 --> 01:15.280] Well orchestrated by opposition, joint opposition. [01:27.120 --> 01:37.200] But last night what we saw through the day was another 10 letter word and that was a caricature. [01:37.200 --> 01:44.000] Now if after 27th of December there has been a change of mind on that issue, [01:44.000 --> 01:58.880] as I said earlier, it's a matter that we need to sit and talk with the TMC. [01:58.880 --> 02:06.560] Members of team Anna should now consider changing their spectacles to change it from a unifocal [02:06.560 --> 02:16.800] anti-Congress focus to at least a bifocal vision where at least some drawbacks or errors of the [02:16.800 --> 02:45.760] BJP also occasionally are visible to them. [02:45.760 --> 02:49.760] And as the blame game continues over who's responsible for the midnight fiasco, [02:49.760 --> 02:54.240] NDTV's Rahul Srivastava has exclusive details on what led to the disruption. [02:55.600 --> 03:01.360] Perhaps the government till the end, till what we are hearing, till 11.45 in the night, [03:01.360 --> 03:06.160] did not tell the chairperson or the Rajya Sabha secretariat whether it was interested in passing [03:06.160 --> 03:11.680] the bill. If we go back last year, Vishnu, if you remember that there was a very clear indication [03:11.680 --> 03:16.480] after a nudge from Sonia Gandhi, the UP chairperson, that the Congress wanted the women [03:16.480 --> 03:21.680] reservation bill to be passed and then the clear indication was sent to the Rajya Sabha secretariat [03:21.680 --> 03:24.960] and the Rajya Sabha chairman. And then what had happened, if you remember, [03:24.960 --> 03:30.400] that when members started protesting, tried to stall, marshals were called inside the house [03:30.400 --> 03:34.880] and the people who were protesting were taken out and then the bill was put to vote and the [03:34.880 --> 03:38.880] bill had sailed through the Rajya Sabha, though it is yet to come up in the Lok Sabha. Perhaps, [03:38.880 --> 03:44.000] Vishnu, that clear indication was lacking and that is why the chair could not decide which way to go. [03:44.000 --> 03:48.000] The second crisis arose when what to do about the extension of the house because speakers [03:48.000 --> 03:53.920] were speaking till virtually as late as 11.15 in the night. The government went to the chairperson, [03:53.920 --> 04:00.320] Chairman Mr. Rajya Sabha and told him at 11.42 that the government does not want an extension [04:00.320 --> 04:05.040] of the session. What it meant, that barely 15 minutes before the clock would tick 12 [04:05.040 --> 04:11.440] or midnight, the chair did not really know which way to go. The bill does not really die. [04:11.440 --> 04:17.520] It remains alive for five months, 29 days. That means within six months it can be taken up again. [04:17.520 --> 04:22.640] That's good news for the Lokpal bill that perhaps that within six months the debate can start all [04:22.640 --> 04:27.520] over where it had left off in the Rajya Sabha. The adjournments can be taken up, but there is [04:27.520 --> 04:33.440] a right of Vishnu that perhaps given the fact that it's a contentious bill and the Lokpal and [04:33.440 --> 04:38.000] the budget session is a very crucial session for the government, perhaps the government's first [04:38.000 --> 04:43.440] indication which we have got is that budget first, Lokpal next. So that is why the second half could [04:43.440 --> 04:49.360] well be the time of the budget sent when the Lokpal bill can come up. In the eye of the storm, [04:49.360 --> 04:54.080] the government says the Lokpal bill is not in cold storage. But as Sandeep Pookan explains, [04:54.080 --> 04:57.200] the budget session in March comes with its own complications. [04:59.200 --> 05:02.880] The UPA never had the numbers to push through the Lokpal bill in the Rajya Sabha. [05:02.880 --> 05:07.360] The picture was further complicated by the Trinamool Congress who refused to support the [05:07.360 --> 05:13.280] government bill. But predictably for the government, the BJP became the main villain of the piece. [05:14.160 --> 05:19.760] So does all this effectively mean that the Lokpal bill has been put to sleep at the stroke of [05:19.760 --> 05:24.960] midnight? For the record, the government says it will try to revive the bill in the next session [05:24.960 --> 05:29.600] of parliament, in the budget session of parliament. But the key question is, will the government [05:29.600 --> 05:36.560] bring such a controversial bill that may end up the political class, especially at a time when it [05:36.560 --> 05:42.080] has to pass important economic legislations like the budget and the food security bill? [05:42.080 --> 05:48.400] That's the key question. In a decisive setback to the army chief General VK Singh, the defence [05:48.400 --> 05:53.520] ministry has formally rejected his appeal, seeking to correct his date of birth. This means he will [05:53.520 --> 05:59.520] have to retire in May 2012, but he can now approach the courts. General Singh has met Prime Minister [05:59.520 --> 06:03.840] General Singh has also met Finance Minister Pranab Mukherjee. My colleague Sudhiranjan [06:03.840 --> 06:09.040] Sen has the details. The defence ministry has officially today communicated to the chief of [06:09.040 --> 06:14.080] army staff that a statutory complaint in which he had said that his date of birth or the year of [06:14.080 --> 06:20.400] birth is 1951 and not 1950 cannot be accepted. The attorney general has said since he was made [06:20.400 --> 06:24.960] a chief of army staff with the with the consideration or with the calculation that he [06:24.960 --> 06:31.040] was born in 1950 cannot be changed at this stage. This opinion had been conveyed to the ministry [06:31.040 --> 06:35.600] some time ago. Today it has been communicated. In this statutory complaint, the army chief had [06:35.600 --> 06:41.280] made it very clear that he is not fighting for tenure because if his age and which is there in [06:41.280 --> 06:46.400] his matriculation certificate as 1951, he gets another year. But in the statutory complaint, [06:46.400 --> 06:51.040] the chief has made it very, very clear that he's not fighting for tenure, but it is his personal [06:51.040 --> 06:57.680] honour that he is fighting for because he says or the army believes that if the chief of army staff's [06:57.680 --> 07:02.640] age is being doubted, what he has stated is being doubted, then you are doubting the chief's [07:02.640 --> 07:07.040] intention and the entire office of the chief of army staff is under a cloud. [07:07.040 --> 07:11.280] So it's basically a question of personal honour that the chief has been fighting for. [07:12.640 --> 07:16.880] After being targeted relentlessly over allegations of favouring a former client, [07:16.880 --> 07:21.520] the Home Ministry has asked all officers to show drafts of letters if the letter says [07:21.520 --> 07:25.520] that a decision has the approval or concurrence of the ministry. [07:25.520 --> 07:30.400] Chidambaram has said his ministry has issued a directive to all officers that when a draft is [07:30.400 --> 07:35.200] being prepared and finalised with a note that this issue has the approval of the Home Minister [07:35.200 --> 07:38.880] or Home Secretary, the draft must be put up to either of the two. [07:38.880 --> 07:49.840] At least 27 people were killed after Cyclone Thane hit North Coastal Tamil Nadu early on Friday, [07:49.840 --> 07:54.160] leaving a trail of destruction. The cyclonic storm is weakening over land, [07:54.160 --> 07:58.560] but rains are expected to continue in the coastal districts of the state [07:58.560 --> 08:09.600] and also in southern Andhra Pradesh over the next 24 hours. [08:09.600 --> 08:14.880] They have a creek by Cyclone Thane that crossed coastal Puducherry and Kadalu district of Tamil [08:14.880 --> 08:20.480] Nadu early on Friday. The wind speed was upwards of 120 kilometres per hour. [08:20.480 --> 08:28.880] As far as next 24 hours is concerned, it is likely to rain at many places in Tamil Nadu and [08:28.880 --> 08:33.840] Puducherry. One or two places may experience heavy to very heavy rainfall. [08:33.840 --> 08:36.960] Early in the morning tomorrow is when Med Department officials say [08:36.960 --> 08:40.960] Cyclone Thane will make landfall and that's in the coastal district of Kadalu [08:40.960 --> 08:45.040] anywhere between Puducherry and Kadalu. And this rainfall is expected to last [08:45.040 --> 08:50.880] till afternoon or tomorrow evening. Of course, people have been asked to stay in shelters. [08:50.880 --> 08:55.920] Government has taken precaution to move the people in the coastal districts off to safer [08:56.560 --> 09:01.200] places. Of course, heavy rainfall expected and also very high speed winds. [09:01.200 --> 09:04.960] Some 250 coastal villages inhabited by fishermen [09:04.960 --> 09:18.800] had been put on high alert and there was fear all night long. Several hundreds were evacuated. [09:35.600 --> 09:44.480] The full extent of the damage wreaked by Cyclone Thane is still to be assessed. [09:44.480 --> 09:47.280] People say they have not seen such a cyclone in several years. [09:47.840 --> 09:52.640] But the worry is going to be about the days ahead because many of these fisher folk along [09:52.640 --> 09:57.200] the coast have lost their livelihood because the catamarans and the boats have been destroyed. [09:57.200 --> 10:09.360] The capital woke up to a white blanket of fog on Friday morning as visibility dropped, [10:09.360 --> 10:15.360] disrupting rail and air traffic. As many as 75 flights were delayed and 40 trains cancelled. [10:15.360 --> 10:18.960] The Med Department has said the fog is likely to continue into the new year. [10:20.880 --> 10:26.000] A relatively warmer morning in Delhi but as the temperature went up to 6.8 degrees, [10:26.000 --> 10:31.120] dense fog closed in, affecting road, rail and air traffic. Visibility at the airport [10:31.120 --> 10:36.080] dropped to below 50 meters and many flights had to land using the Cat 3B landing system. [10:36.080 --> 10:59.040] On the whole, 75 flights were delayed, 15 cancelled and 7 flights diverted. [10:59.040 --> 11:03.040] At the railway station, things were no different. Over 40 trains were cancelled [11:03.040 --> 11:07.840] and an equal number either running late or diverted, leaving many passengers stranded. [11:28.080 --> 11:30.800] But the worst affected was Uttar Pradesh. In Mathura, [11:30.800 --> 11:35.440] four people died in a road mishap due to fog. And in neighbouring Shahjahanpur, [11:35.440 --> 11:39.040] another road accident due to blinding fog claimed five lives. [11:39.040 --> 11:42.000] The Med Department has forecast fog over the next few days, [11:42.000 --> 11:47.600] affecting new year plans of most commuters. With Hina Gambhir, Umme Kulsoom, NDTV. [11:50.160 --> 11:55.120] The Ministry of External Affairs has stepped in to assist the family members of Anuj Bidwe, [11:55.120 --> 12:00.400] an Indian student who was brutally shot dead in Manchester City in United Kingdom last week. [12:00.400 --> 12:03.600] The consulate in Birmingham is expediting the visa process [12:03.600 --> 12:07.680] for two members of Anuj's family and will also bear their travel expenses. [12:11.200 --> 12:15.360] A murdered son. And now, the torturous wait for his body. [12:16.000 --> 12:21.200] The family of 23-year-old Anuj Bidwe, a victim of hate crime in the United Kingdom, [12:21.200 --> 12:25.360] urging the government to exert diplomatic pressure on authorities in Manchester [12:25.360 --> 12:27.680] to release their son's body at the earliest. [12:27.680 --> 12:32.000] The Ministry of External Affairs has asked the coroner's court to expedite the process [12:32.000 --> 12:37.040] and has promised to bear all expenses. The Lancaster University has told the MEA [12:37.040 --> 12:39.440] that they will return Anuj's tuition fees. [12:39.440 --> 12:45.280] UK police wants us to be coming there because they have a process of body identification. [12:45.840 --> 12:49.440] And we will also try and get Anuj back with us. [12:50.240 --> 12:54.880] Meanwhile, unlike their counterparts in Australia, where several Indians have been attacked, [12:54.880 --> 12:58.320] the British police was quick to treat the murder as a hate crime. [12:58.320 --> 13:01.920] We've not yet established a clear motive for this murder. [13:02.880 --> 13:08.080] And there is no evidence or information at this time to suggest it's racially motivated. [13:08.880 --> 13:13.280] However, because of concerns in the community and perceptions in the community, [13:14.320 --> 13:17.680] we are going to be treating this as a hate crime. [13:18.720 --> 13:23.680] For the family back in Pune, the wait getting that much harder to achieve closure. [13:23.680 --> 13:29.680] In the last two decades, the UK has seen race crime rates go down considerably. [13:30.320 --> 13:33.840] But it still continues to be a very real threat. [13:33.840 --> 13:38.240] And this is something that the Home Office will have to take into account [13:38.240 --> 13:41.440] when it starts to probe the murder of Anuj Birtwe. [13:42.240 --> 13:47.680] Of course, the police investigation which is currently on has admitted that it is a race crime, [13:47.680 --> 13:53.440] but is also, according to sources, saying that they're looking into whether it could be a race crime. [13:53.440 --> 13:55.520] It could be a gang initiation. [13:55.520 --> 14:22.240] Time for a break. News updates continue on the other side. This is the [15:54.080 --> 15:56.880] motor van of the train which has got completely mangled. [15:56.880 --> 16:04.240] This is the worst flood that Thailand has seen in the last 50 years. Nobody knows when it's going to [16:04.240 --> 16:10.800] come to an end. The sheer scale of destruction inside Sri Lanka's last no-fire zone is evident [16:10.800 --> 16:12.720] that the blood of innocents was spilled here. [16:20.560 --> 16:24.320] Who mishandled the aftermath of the Bhopal gas leak? [16:24.320 --> 16:28.480] Differing voices within the government can weaken its fight against Naxalism. [16:40.480 --> 16:42.720] If ever there was a watershed, it is now. [16:50.160 --> 16:53.120] It is the show that everyone has been waiting for. Good evening ladies and gentlemen, [16:53.120 --> 16:55.760] this is Anisha and this is Meghna. Are you ready to fall? [16:56.320 --> 16:58.800] I've always believed that you are single until you get married. [16:58.800 --> 17:02.080] They're all claptraps. He's gonna come and he's just gonna sweep me. [17:02.080 --> 17:05.120] All the women are powerful. I'm quite nervous about chasing people. [17:05.120 --> 17:07.760] What will you give Katrina? I'll give you this dress. [17:07.760 --> 17:09.920] You make me blush. Never try to set up. [17:09.920 --> 17:12.880] Breaking news only on Night Out. You got it first. [17:12.880 --> 17:15.200] You're watching Night Out. Catch me on Night Out. [17:15.200 --> 17:15.680] Night Out. [17:15.680 --> 17:25.280] We are the smartest, toughest, strongest. Hello common man. I'm busy right now. [17:25.280 --> 17:27.920] It's great to have politicians at our mercy. [17:37.200 --> 17:42.240] Welcome back. There was a lot more to this year than India lifting the Cricket World Cup. [17:42.240 --> 17:46.720] Here's a look back at all the highs and lows of Indian sports in 2011. [17:57.360 --> 18:02.720] After the highs of 2010, 2011 was a relatively quieter year for Indian sports. [18:05.600 --> 18:08.560] Ranjan Sodhi led his gun do all the talking. [18:08.560 --> 18:12.800] The trap shooter became the first Indian to successfully defend his World Cup title. [18:16.160 --> 18:19.440] It was a different story altogether for Saina Nehwal. [18:19.440 --> 18:23.440] She didn't win a single major tournament but reached the final of the year-ending [18:23.440 --> 18:27.920] World Super Series. A good sign we'd say going into the year of the Olympics. [18:27.920 --> 18:30.880] I'm confident that we'll get her back on track as quickly as possible. [18:33.280 --> 18:38.080] Saina's fellow shuttlers Jwala Gupta and Ashwini Ponnapado had an impressive run. [18:38.080 --> 18:42.960] Their doubles bronze was India's first medal at the World Championships in 28 years. [18:45.040 --> 18:48.400] Stars failing to shine bright was the trend in boxing as well. [18:52.960 --> 18:56.080] But new stars were born in the ring. Vikas Krishan [18:56.080 --> 19:00.160] became just the second Indian boxer after Vijender to win a World Championship medal. [19:00.160 --> 19:03.760] The man most synonymous with Indian football paid farewell to the game [19:03.760 --> 19:07.280] and it'll probably be impossible to fill Bhaichung Bhutia's shoes. [19:12.320 --> 19:17.280] The year began in terrible style for the Indian football team being knocked out of the AFC Asian [19:17.280 --> 19:30.640] Cup. That was followed by a musical chair of sorts of national coaches. [19:34.640 --> 19:38.640] The end though was a happy one with the sixth SAFF Championship title win at home. [19:38.640 --> 19:45.200] Who runs hockey in India? Never mind if you can't answer that one. [19:48.960 --> 19:55.040] But will India qualify for the 2012 Olympics? Well, we certainly hope so. But to do that, [19:55.040 --> 19:59.680] they'll have to do better than just one tournament win and one final appearance in a year. [20:02.080 --> 20:04.720] Here's someone who almost found the bullseye. [20:04.720 --> 20:11.360] Deepika Kumari missed out on a World Cup goal by a whisker. [20:11.360 --> 20:14.080] Another Deepika, Palikkal, had a great year. [20:14.720 --> 20:18.800] Three Westpaw titles and a quarterfinal finish at the World Championships. [20:23.440 --> 20:27.120] Let's hope in the new year there are more hits and fewer misses [20:27.120 --> 20:30.720] as India aim to make London 2012 a memorable outing. [20:30.720 --> 20:35.680] Here's the weather update with Namrata. [21:00.880 --> 21:05.520] In the eastern region, plenty of sunshine likely over Bihar, Jharkhand, West Bengal and Orissa. [22:05.520 --> 22:09.120] The SPM level at 399 micrograms per cubic meter. [22:09.120 --> 22:11.440] It has displaced Delhi since yesterday. [22:11.440 --> 22:14.320] Kolkata at the second spot and Chandigarh yet again, [22:14.320 --> 22:16.800] the least polluted city in the country. [22:16.800 --> 22:18.640] Well, that's it on the air pollution report. [22:19.760 --> 22:20.640] That's all we have. [22:20.640 --> 22:23.840] But we would like to end on a lighter note with our puppets, [22:23.840 --> 22:26.880] who've decided to turn the biggest talking point this year [22:26.880 --> 22:29.600] into the year's most hummed and Google song. [22:39.920 --> 22:44.080] Vande Mataram [22:44.080 --> 22:50.240] Vande Mataram [22:50.240 --> 22:54.240] Why is Lokpal, Lokpal very, very weak? [23:23.680 --> 23:25.520] Rahul ka mummy, ready? [23:28.480 --> 23:31.280] Mamma Mia, only English [23:31.280 --> 23:40.560] And the Congress holding Lokpal, full of fear [23:42.240 --> 23:47.440] Empty rally, stable camera, reverse gear [23:48.800 --> 23:54.560] Power, power, so much power, I show to you power [23:54.560 --> 23:55.760] One day [23:55.760 --> 24:02.000] Chao, chao, okay chao, you better eat now [24:02.000 --> 24:07.680] Oh god, I am dying now, she's happy how [24:09.920 --> 24:14.800] This song is for fast boys, you don't have choice [24:16.640 --> 24:21.120] Why is Lokpal, Lokpal very, very weak? [24:21.120 --> 24:21.600] Tell me [24:21.600 --> 24:26.400] Why is Lokpal, Lokpal very, very weak? [24:26.400 --> 24:31.680] Superanna, one, two, three, four [24:31.680 --> 24:38.560] Pa pa pa pa, pa pa pa pa, pa pa pa pa, pa pa pa [24:38.560 --> 24:44.560] Pa pa pa pa, pa pa pa pa, pa pa pa pa, pa pa pa pa [24:44.560 --> 24:45.600] One day [24:45.600 --> 24:51.760] Pa pa pa, one day [25:45.600 --> 26:15.440] Sir Bindu Srivastava earlier today looked at and identified for us a few [26:15.440 --> 26:20.960] stocks from 2011 as the winners and losers which could be big, big winners in 2012. [26:20.960 --> 26:27.600] Sarvendra's top best for 2012 are heavyweights like BHEL, RIL, HUL and HDFC. [26:27.600 --> 26:30.240] Why? Here's the reasoning as given by Sarvendra. [26:32.320 --> 26:37.680] Time to decipher what has happened in 2011 and what can be best made out of 2012. [26:38.640 --> 26:43.280] Here are some of our stocks that we think that would do well in 2012. [26:43.280 --> 26:47.440] The whole basis of the four stocks that we are about to discuss is the fact that [26:48.320 --> 26:53.680] our long term view that Nifty should base out somewhere around the 46, 4700 levels still remains [26:53.680 --> 27:00.560] intact. So till proven otherwise, the medium term and the short term trend both are in just around [27:00.560 --> 27:06.000] the long term supports. So first talk that comes to my mind is Bail. That is one stock that has [27:06.000 --> 27:11.680] completed a yearly setup. Minor targets on the downside, say around 190, 200 could be left. [27:11.680 --> 27:17.360] We would initiate long on this one around 190, 200. Aggressive traders can start accumulating [27:17.360 --> 27:22.400] from current levels itself. Stops can be placed around 174. Once those targets are complete on [27:22.400 --> 27:27.440] the downside, this stock could easily give you anywhere between 25 to 30% return in 2012. [27:28.080 --> 27:34.080] The next stock that comes to our name is Reliance. Reliance has got good supports around 680, 700, [27:34.080 --> 27:40.480] has been trading a 300 point parallel range over the last two years. We had broken past [27:40.480 --> 27:45.680] 900 over the last couple of months, but now setups look encouraging. The stock should pull back [27:45.680 --> 27:51.920] towards 900 in days to come. 664 remains a very, very crucial support and stop loss for this view, [27:51.920 --> 27:56.480] because below 654, the stock can actually weaken. And probably that was the time to relook at the [27:56.480 --> 28:02.400] Nifty itself. But going with the flow as of now, this stock would easily give you 900 plus going [28:02.400 --> 28:08.240] into the first two quarters of 2012. The other name that comes to our mind is HUL, been a very, [28:08.240 --> 28:13.920] very strong outperformer. The key point in 2011 for the stock was that it took out the high of [28:13.920 --> 28:19.440] 2000. So after 10 of the year 2000, so after 10 long years, we have had a breakout out of 325. [28:19.440 --> 28:26.080] The breakout has been solid with volumes. So now any pullback towards 353.70 should be a good place [28:26.080 --> 28:32.320] to accumulate this stock for 2012. Stops can be placed below 319. And this is a stock that could [28:32.320 --> 28:38.400] keep on running through 12, 13 and could give you returns of the prices upwards of 500 plus on this [28:38.400 --> 28:45.200] stock are definitely visible now. Next stock in mind is HDFC Bank. Again, outperformer consolidating [28:45.200 --> 28:49.760] up with the 2008 highs, a small little bullish flag, which is right now setting up over the last [28:49.760 --> 29:07.520] couple of months. NDTV. And you're watching NDTV 24 seven. [29:19.760 --> 29:30.320] Hello and welcome to this year end special on the single biggest event of 2011. If there's one [29:30.320 --> 29:37.040] thing that this year will be remembered for, it's for the hope and it's still only a hope that in [29:37.040 --> 29:43.680] 2011, the fight against corruption in our country has finally begun in earnest. And this fight [29:43.680 --> 29:51.440] against corruption became symbolic with one man, the 74 year old Anna. And for the government, [29:51.440 --> 29:58.720] the year became, to coin a phrase, Anna Horribilis, as the government bungled and botched [29:58.720 --> 30:16.080] and then buckled under pressure from.
