Track Rod End Lock Nut Seized. Sadly, the track rod lock nut is seized to track rod end. Tried, brute force, long adjustable plumbers. I've removed scores of seized track rod ends and in recent years always with the angle grinder except where it was the locknut seized. I've seen a lot of bmw track rods seized beyond freeing off and it tends to be on the drivers side for some weird reason. The vertical bolt on the track rod end joint, (as per the photo) that bolts onto the steering arm has seized to the lock nut on top. Firstly, have you undone the lock nut that tightens against the tre? I finally had a few hours free to change my track rood ends but have ran into major problems and now don't know what to do!. You want to put the ball joint back in the hub and put the nut back on a few turns. If this is free then whip out your blow torch and heat the tre up. I have had to use a 19mm (or 18mm can't remember) on the locking nut and an adjustable on the track rod but the locking nut. Need to get the part that's screwed onto the inner rod.
