Edelbrock Carburetor Backfire. When i first start the engine it runs great, and idels in great. I recently bought a 1986 chevy truck from a buddy, it has a 383 stroker motor with a edelbrock manifold. I just finished installing an edelbrock 600 performer carb (1406) and a performer rpm intake on my otherwise totally stock 1972 350. Performer intake, eddy 1406 carb,.101 jets w/ 75x47 rods.98 secondaries, orange step up springs, 12 inch vacuum at 700 rpm, 34* timing all. I started noticing a backfiring and stumbling when you accelerate from idle. Backfiring through the carburetor is often times a sign the the engine is running lean and 'chasing fuel' into the intake manifold. The problem is that when i accelerate hard the engine bogs down, and backfires. I have an edelbrock performer intake and 600 cfm performer carb. When you say edelbrock, if you mean the edelbrock qjet equivalent, sometimes that is due to the secondary air valve on top not opening. The engine was just rebuilt, and the carb was also restored. Also, when i try to brake torque (burn out) it rev up. Then it clears up and moves.
