Chevy 350 Fuel Pump Rod Stuck. Insured gravity flow brought fuel to pump, and it filled the pump bowl. Could my plunger/rod be stuck and if so how do i get it down? So, i took off the pump and plate and the fuel pump rod won't come out. I wanted to put a mechanical pump back on and found that the fuel pump push rod is stuck in the bore. Take it out and install pushrod and screw in a longer bolt to hold pushrod. Took the tank off cleaned it out, replaced the fuel line, filter, and my friend. There's a bolt on the front of engine that lines up with the pushrod. This usually is caused by someone putting to long of bolt in the push rod hole in the front of the block and not noticing. When i crank the car the rod only moves 1/2 in. Cranked engine several times for 5 to 10 seconds, primed carburetor, and could not get fuel up to carb. Had a friend diagnose the problem as the fuel pump. Or is there another trick to try and get the fuel flowing again?
