Gather Your Materials and Tools
Before you start, ensure you have all the necessary materials and tools at hand. Here's a list to help you get started:
- 2x4 pressure-treated lumber (8 feet)
- 4x4 pressure-treated lumber (4 feet)
- 2x2 pressure-treated lumber (8 feet)
- 1x6 pressure-treated lumber (8 feet)
- 2.5-inch exterior screws
- 1.5-inch exterior screws
- Exterior wood glue
- Stainless steel or galvanized screws (for shelf brackets)

Design Your Potting Table

Next, create the frame for the tabletop by attaching the 2x4 bottom support and 2x4 top support to the legs using 2.5-inch exterior screws. Ensure the frame is square by measuring diagonally from corner to corner and adjusting as needed.
Attach the Tabletop Boards
Lay the 1x6 tabletop boards across the frame and secure them using 1.5-inch exterior screws. Ensure the boards are flush with the outer edges of the frame and leave a small gap between each board for drainage.
Add Shelves and Finishing Touches
Install shelf brackets along the inside of the legs, positioning them about 12 inches from the ground. Attach the shelves using stainless steel or galvanized screws. You can also add casters to the bottom of the legs for easy mobility.
Seal and Paint (Optional)
If desired, apply an exterior paint or sealant to protect your potting table from the elements. Allow the paint to dry completely before using the table.
