I agree that it sounds like the fuel float was stuck open on the carb and allowed tank pressure to just push in fuel. A fuel shutoff solenoid is attached to the bottom of the carburetor bowl and is activated by electricity passing through the wires which causes a magnet to retract a plug that blocks the fuel jet when the generator is running or go back in place with a spring when the engine is turned off. You have to remove the fuel bowl and hold the nut inside to remove the solenoid. I removed the solenoid & ran 12v from a car battery & solenoid.
