Flex Plate Hitting Starter.  — that would seem to point to a mismatch of starter or flexplate, or at least starter drive gear or starter nose.  — most flex plates wobble a bit yours looks like alot. If you want to dive into it i would replace the flex plate with a new one. I have installed many 1970. What can i have done wrong?. See if the starter engages better when you use a remote starter button with some decent thick wires.  — when i start the car, you can hear sometimes a little grinding sound coming from the flexplate touching the housing of the starter. It only occurs at start up.  — my flywheel/flexplate is hitting the stop metal bushing on my starter.  — this is what aligns the starter on a mopar, the bolt holes are oversize to allow the starter nose to fit into the pilot.  — i have a problem with the flexplate balance weight hitting the starter somehow? I'm not sure how to fix it.
