Valley Pan Drain at James Sterling blog

Valley Pan Drain. took my heads off a few months ago for a valve job and i’m just now getting back to reassembling the top end/etc. It drains into a passage that exits at the rear of the block. I would use a short. It is a broached 3/8 drive hole with a small hole to. just center punch it in the middle of the hex socket well and you should have no issue drilling it out, if you choose to do that. does the valley pan have a drain or do i have to clean it out from the top of the engine? the plug does have a hole all the way through. the drain bolt is the retaining bolt that holds down the valley pan. the drain is through the bolt that holds down the valley pan, and can easily clog up causing stuff to just drain off the sides of. The oem is drilled to allow. the intake manifold holds the valley pan down to the heads so there isn't a need for any sealer there. it will likely splash on or near your starter (poor design imho) but it won't infiltrate your crankcase.
