Bmw E90 Drive Shaft Noise. I recently bought a 2017 m2 and just noticed a light whirring sound at (very) low speeds, mainly when slowly pulling away from. Let me start with how the driveshaft start making the noise at 42k first. This noise stops after a minute or so after coasting. Here's a recording from under my car of two noises. This is a thick rubber gasket of sorts that can harden over. I have looked at the axle shafts and boots to see if anything is rubbing on them but they look fine with no scraping. When i shift my e90 325i auto, i hear a faint tink / clunk sound as if theres play in the driveshaft, or maybe even as if there a bad. I had a differantial input seal leak and i bring my car to. Not having looked at the car, but i'd check the guido on the drive shaft. It's very common and some bmw dealers will even say that it's normal. My car has done this for the past 75k miles. Listen closely and you'll hear both a rattle that sounds exactly like a bad cv. I have had the noise on a z4 and my e93 both times turned out to be the differential and replaced under warranty.
